Usage Features

Assembly: The model requires careful assembly according to the provided instructions. Modifying or altering the model will void the warranty. Threadlocker and grease are essential for ensuring flying safety, with specific application points indicated by symbols throughout the manual. It is recommended to use only original replacement parts to ensure safe operation.

Flight Environment:

  • Fly only in safe areas, away from people, homes, and obstacles.
  • Avoid flying near buildings, high voltage lines, or trees.
  • Choose a legal flying field with flat, smooth ground.
  • For initial practice, using a training skid is recommended to reduce damage.
  • Do not fly in bad weather conditions such as rain, strong wind, snow, or darkness.

Pre-Flight Checks:

  • Before each flight, ensure the model is in perfect condition, all equipment works correctly, and there is no structural damage.
  • Check for proper pitch, roll, and collective compensation by tilting the helicopter and observing the swashplate movement.
  • Verify that the swashplate and rotor head mechanisms do not bind when cyclic and collective controls are moved to their maximum extents. Adjust flight control unit settings if binding occurs.

First Flight (Maiden Flight):

  • Take off the helicopter carefully. If the swashplate tilts before lifting off, do not manually trim it, as this is due to vibration feedback and will disappear once airborne. Manual trim will cause immediate tilting after takeoff.
  • During hovering, observe for rapid left/right or forward/aft oscillations. If present, land and decrease the corresponding gyro gain (pitch or roll) on the flight control unit until oscillations cease.
  • If the tail drifts or yaw response is delayed during hovering, reset the yaw neutral or adjust the yaw gyro gain. If the tail oscillates at hover or full throttle, decrease the yaw gyro gain.
  • During fast forward flight, if oscillations persist, reduce the pitch gyro gain. If the helicopter pitches up or responds slowly, increase the pitch gyro gain. Repeat until oscillations are eliminated. Apply a similar method for roll gyro gain.

Radio Setup:

  • A minimum 6-channel transmitter with heli program and three flight modes (Normal, Idle1, Idle2) and throttle hold is required.
  • Set the swashplate type to H1 (no mixes), with revomix and all other mixes inhibited, and subtrims zeroed.
  • Follow the instruction manuals of the ESC, FBL control unit, and RC set to properly configure servo neutrals, servo travel limits, gyro gain, governor, and other initial settings.

Recommended RPM Range and Collective Pitch:

  • Hovering: 1400-1800 RPM, -5°/+12° collective pitch.
  • Low RPM 3D: 1500-1900 RPM, +16° collective pitch.
  • Sport: 1600-1900 RPM, +13° collective pitch.
  • Aerobatics: 2000-2300 RPM, +13° collective pitch.
  • Soft 3D: 2300-2600 RPM, +13° collective pitch.
  • Hard 3D: 2600-2850 RPM, +13° collective pitch.
  • Extreme 3D: 3000 RPM, +12° collective pitch.

Maintenance Features

General Care:

  • Keep the model and associated equipment away from moisture and other contaminants to prevent malfunctions or crashes. Do not operate or expose to rain.
  • Store the model indoors, in a climate-controlled, room-temperature environment, away from heat sources like ovens or heaters, as plastic parts are susceptible to damage or deformation from extreme temperatures.

Rotor System Maintenance:

  • The main rotor hub thrust bearing and rubber dampers are subjected to high flight forces. Periodically inspect, lubricate, and replace them if worn or damaged.
  • When flying at high rotor speeds, reduce the inspection interval for these components.
  • Ensure that only precisely balanced tail rotor blades from reputable manufacturers are used. Even slight imbalances can cause high stress on the tail mechanics due to the very high RPM of the tail rotor during flight.
  • Properly tighten the main and tail rotor blades so they do not fall under their own weight but are still easy to move in the blade grips. Over-tightening can damage the blades and compromise flight safety.

ESC Calibration:

  • Perform throttle calibration for the first time using the ESC. This involves setting the throttle stick to full, connecting the battery, waiting for two beeps, then moving the stick to the bottom within 2 seconds. The motor will then beep to indicate the number of battery cells, followed by a "Beep... Beep" sound, signaling that the ESC is ready to operate.

Troubleshooting:

  • A comprehensive troubleshooting guide is provided to address common issues such as blade tracking, headspeed, yaw response, oscillations, drifting, and control response. Solutions typically involve adjusting linkage lengths, throttle curves, gyro gains, or replacing worn components.
  • If issues persist after following the troubleshooting steps, consult experienced pilots or contact an OMP HOBBY dealer.

Warranty: KAVAN Europe s.r.o. products are covered by a guarantee that meets legal requirements. The warranty does not cover faults caused by crashes, improper use, incorrect connections, reversed polarity, late or incorrect maintenance, unauthorized repairs, use of non-genuine accessories, accidental or deliberate damage, normal wear and tear, operation outside specifications, or use with equipment from other manufacturers.
