Overview

This document describes the Environizer™ 90100 Series (63-613), an air purification device designed for indoor use.

Function Description

The Environizer™ utilizes an ionizing process to remove particles from the air. It operates by electrostatically attracting and collecting airborne particles. The device produces trace amounts of ozone as a byproduct, which complies with U.S. Government limits (less than 50 parts per billion by volume of air). It is explicitly stated that the Environizer™ is not an ozone generator, as ozone generators produce large amounts of ozone considered unsafe by the EPA. The device includes a fan that circulates air, but its speed remains constant regardless of the power setting, as power settings only adjust the voltage (cleaning power) of the electrostatic wires.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model Series: 90100 Series (63-613)
  • Power: 120 VAC, 8 Watts, 60 Hz
  • Ozone Production: Less than 50 parts per billion (ppb), complying with U.S. Government limits.
  • Plug Type: Grounding type plug with a third (grounding) pin.

Usage Features

Setup:

  • The unit should be placed on a firm, level, and flat surface.
  • For optimal airflow, it must be located at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from any wall or furniture.
  • The exit grille should face away from the closest wall or furniture, and no grilles should be blocked.
  • It must be plugged into a grounded 120V outlet.
  • The device is for indoor use only and should not be used in moist locations like bathrooms or laundry areas, nor where it could fall into water.
  • The Environizer™ should not be lifted by its Top Cover.

Operation:

  • Before operation, ensure the Collector Rod is firmly seated, and the top cover is securely latched.
  • The Power Level Knob is turned clockwise to select the desired power level, indicated by the Power Indicator light.
  • The fan speed is constant, regardless of the power setting.

Collector Rod Removal and Installation:

  • Removal:
    1. Unplug the Environizer™.
    2. Press the Control Panel Release Button and rotate the top cover back.
    3. Grip the Collector Rod handle and pull it up firmly.
  • Installation:
    1. Ensure the Environizer™ is unplugged.
    2. The Collector Rod inserts in only one way; align it with the opening in the Environizer™.
    3. Press down until the Collector Rod seats firmly in place, ensuring the top handle is flush with surrounding surfaces.
    4. Rotate the top cover down and securely latch it in place.
  • The collection rod has many edges and areas that can trap water, so it must be completely dry before installation.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always unplug the product when not in use or before cleaning.
  • Close attention is necessary when operated near children, as it is not a toy.
  • Do not pull, lift, or carry by the power cord; do not use the cord as a handle, close a door on it, or pull it around sharp edges.
  • Do not place near heat sources (stoves, radiators, heaters).
  • No user-serviceable parts are inside; attempting to open the unit voids the warranty and can cause damage or injury.
  • Turn the unit off before unplugging; grip the plug, not the cord.
  • Do not handle the product or plug with wet hands.
  • Do not insert objects through grilles or openings; keep openings free of dust, lint, hair, or other materials that may reduce airflow.
  • Keep hair, fingers, or loose clothing away from grilles or openings.
  • Do not operate in areas with flammable or combustible products/vapors or in oxygen-rich environments.
  • If the product is damaged, unplug it immediately and return it for service.
  • Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug, or if it malfunctions, has been dropped, or damaged.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Collector Rod:

  • For common household particles (every 2-3 weeks, or sooner):
    1. Remove the Collector Rod.
    2. Wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth.
    3. Ensure the Collector Rod is completely dry before reinserting.
  • For tobacco smoke or stubborn particles (every week, or sooner):
    1. Remove the Collector Rod.
    2. Use a scrub sponge dampened with a mild soap and water solution to wipe the rod from top to bottom.
    3. Wipe with a damp cloth to ensure no soap residue remains, and ensure it is completely dry. Do not place under running water.
    4. Reinsert the Collector Rod.
  • Discoloration on the Collector Rod over time is normal and does not affect performance.

General Cleaning and Maintenance (at least every three weeks, or more frequently depending on environmental conditions):

  • Turn off and unplug the Environizer™.
  • Press the control panel release button and rotate the panel up.
  • Remove and clean the collector rod as described above.
  • Turn the unit upside-down 2 or 3 times and hold for at least 3 seconds each time. This action helps internal cleaning bars scrape accumulated debris off the electrostatic wires. Do not insert foreign objects or fingers inside the unit.
  • Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the external surfaces of the Environizer™. Do not use water, gasoline, polish, or any chemical solution.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the unit shuts off unexpectedly, check if it is plugged into a working electrical outlet, if the collector rod is firmly seated, and if the top cover is latched.
  • A "crackling" sound followed by a lack of air cleaning indicates the unit needs cleaning due to dirt accumulation on the collector and electrostatic wires. Cleaning the unit should restore normal operation.
  • For further troubleshooting, visit www.kaz.com.
  • Do not attempt to open the Environizer™ yourself, as it voids the warranty and can cause damage or injury.
