(1) KeyTV Multisource Signal Controller
This is where you connect your cable TV and/or
satellite service. The Key TV controller is found on
your vehicle’s exterior, either in the convenience
center or in a small compartment on either the
non-door side or rear wall of the trailer.
KeyTV works seamlessly with cable service and all major satellite providers -
without the need to run separate wiring to television monitors.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
My cable is snowy or the reception is poor, what’s up?
At some campgrounds the strength of the cable service can get diluted the further
your site is from the source or with bad weather. If you’re having an issue make
sure your cable signal is at least -50 dBm or stronger. KeyTV was developed
without splitters or jumpers in order to give you the best possible picture.
What satellite providers are KeyTV compatible with?
KeyTV is fully compatible with DISH
®
Network and DirecTV
®
in the U.S.,
Shaw Direct and Bell in Canada.
My dealer has suggested running separate wiring for my
satellite system, do I need that?
You don’t. By running a single line from the controller to each monitor wall
plate, KeyTV eliminates the wiring complexity that sometimes resulted in
poor satellite reception.

Overview

The KeyTV Multisource Signal Controller is a revolutionary, exclusive single-point control system designed to simplify RV television operation and enhance signal quality for over-the-air, cable, and satellite television. This system eliminates the need for complex, separate wiring for different signal sources, providing a seamless viewing experience.

Function Description:

The primary function of the KeyTV system is to act as a central hub for all television signal inputs in an RV. It consolidates signals from over-the-air antennas, cable TV services, and various satellite providers into a single, streamlined system. This means users can switch between different signal sources without manually re-wiring or managing multiple input connections at each television monitor. The system is designed to work seamlessly with major satellite providers such as DISH® Network and DirecTV® in the U.S., and Shaw Direct and Bell in Canada, ensuring broad compatibility.

The KeyTV controller intelligently manages signal distribution, aiming to deliver the best possible picture quality by eliminating the signal degradation often associated with splitters and jumpers found in traditional RV wiring setups. It automatically switches to over-the-air channels if the cable service is weak or compromised, ensuring continuous access to television programming.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Signal Strength Requirement: For optimal performance, the cable signal strength should be at least -50 dBm or stronger. The system is engineered to perform best with robust signals, and weak signals can lead to snowy or poor reception.
  • Satellite Coaxial Cable Length: For portable satellite systems, the coaxial wire connecting the satellite dish's main port to the KeyTV Multisource Signal Controller's "SAT" port should ideally be 25 feet or less. This length recommendation is crucial for maintaining signal integrity and preventing loss, which can impact satellite reception quality.
  • Wiring Standard: The KeyTV system utilizes an exclusive color-coded wiring standard. Each monitor's wall plate connects directly to the KeyTV Multisource Signal Controller via a color-coded coaxial cable. This standardization simplifies troubleshooting by making it easy to identify and correct connection issues. The color codes are:
    • ANTENNA: BLACK
    • RADIO (FM): PURPLE
    • BEDROOM TV: GRAY
    • MAIN LIVING TV: TAN
    • BEDROOM 2 TV / GARAGE TV: WHITE
    • OUTSIDE / CARGO TV: ORANGE
    • ROOFTOP SATELLITE PREP: BLUE
  • Multi-TV Support: The system supports multiple television locations within the RV. For applications with five TV locations, it may require the replacement of the factory-installed splitter between TV 4 and TV 5 with an approved satellite provider's splitter to ensure proper signal distribution.

Usage Features:

  • Single-Point Control: The KeyTV Multisource Signal Controller is typically found on the vehicle's exterior, either in the convenience center or a small compartment on the non-door side or rear wall of the trailer. This central location simplifies connecting external signal sources.
  • Simplified Connections:
    • Over-the-Air Television: Connect the television to the "CATV/ANT" port on the wall plate with a coaxial cable. Ensure no cable service is connected to the exterior KeyTV controller. Turn on the TV, select "antenna" (ANT) input in the menu, and run auto-program to find channels.
    • Cable Television: Connect the cable TV service to the "CATV" port on the exterior KeyTV Multisource Signal Controller. Connect the television to the "CATV/ANT" port on the wall plate with a coaxial cable. Turn on the TV, select "cable" (CATV) input in the menu, and run auto-program to find channels. If cable service is weak, the system automatically switches to over-the-air channels. To view over-the-air channels, disconnect the cable from the exterior KeyTV controller.
    • Satellite Television: Connect the coaxial wire from the satellite dish's main port to the "SAT" port on the exterior KeyTV Multisource Signal Controller. At the television monitor, connect the satellite receiver to the "SAT" port on the wall plate with a coaxial cable, then connect the receiver to the television with an HDMI cable. Users should refer to their satellite equipment product manual for specific setup instructions.
  • Roof Mount Satellite Prep (Plug and Play): Many Keystone RV models include an exclusive satellite pass-through on the Winegard Air 360+ antenna. To use this feature:
    1. Connect the roof-mounted satellite receiver to the port on the side of the RV's antenna.
    2. Locate the blue "rooftop satellite prep" cover next to the KeyTV controller. Remove this cover and connect the satellite feed cable to the "SAT" input on the controller.
  • User Interface: The wall plates feature "SAT" and "CATV/ANT" ports, along with a "POWER" indicator light, and a "PATENT PENDING" label. These indicators provide visual feedback on the system's status.
  • Compatibility: The system is designed to be compatible with a wide range of satellite providers and television sets. For portable satellite systems, it's noted that satellite programming will be viewable on any one television at a time. Compatibility diagrams are available from Keystone Customer Service.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting Guide: The color-coded wiring standard is a key maintenance feature. If an issue arises with television reception, users are advised to check that connections are tight at both the wall plate and the corresponding connection on the KeyTV unit. The distinct colors make it easy to trace and identify specific cables, simplifying the troubleshooting process.
  • Customer Support: Keystone Owner Relations provides comprehensive support for KeyTV users. They can be reached via phone at (866) 425.4369 during business hours (Monday-Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST; Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST). Live chat support is also available on their website, www.KeystoneRV.com/owners, accessible through the chat window in the lower right-hand corner. This ensures that users have access to expert assistance for any questions or issues they may encounter.
  • Signal Quality Monitoring: While not an explicit maintenance feature, the system's design to eliminate splitters and jumpers inherently reduces points of signal degradation, contributing to better long-term signal quality and potentially less need for frequent maintenance related to signal loss. Users are encouraged to ensure strong incoming cable signals to prevent issues.
