Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes regular maintenance to ensure the safety, enjoyment, and longevity of the playset.

  • Beginning of Play Season:
    • Hardware: Check metal parts for rust (sand and repaint if found), inspect and tighten all hardware (do not overtighten on wood assemblies to prevent crushing/splintering), check for sharp edges/protruding screw threads (add washers if required).
    • Shock Absorbing Surfacing: Check for foreign objects, rake and check depth to prevent compaction, maintain appropriate depth, and replace as necessary.
    • Ground Stakes (Anchors): Check for looseness, damage, or deterioration (re-secure or replace if necessary).
    • Swing Hangers: Check for security and correct orientation (hook should rotate freely and be perpendicular to support beam), lubricate bushings with oil or WD-40 if squeaking occurs, ensure quick clips are completely closed and threaded clips screwed tight.
    • Swings, Ropes, and Rides: Reinstall if removed during cold season, check all moving parts for wear, rust, and deterioration (replace as needed), ensure ropes are tight, secure at both ends, and cannot loop back to create an entrapment.
    • Wood Parts: Check all wood members for deterioration, structural damage, and splintering (sand down splinters, replace deteriorated members). Note that checking and small cracks in grain are normal. Periodic application of an exterior water repellent or stain (water-based) will improve appearance and life.
  • Twice a Month During Play Season:
    • Hardware: Inspect for tightness (firmly against but not crushing wood), check for sharp edges/protruding screw threads (add washers if required).
    • Shock Absorbing Surfacing: Rake and check depth of loose fill protective surfacing materials.
  • Once a Month During Play Season:
    • Swing Hangers: Check for security and correct orientation, lubricate bushings if squeaking.
    • Swings and Rides: Check swing seats, ropes, chains, and attachments for fraying, wear, excessive corrosion, or damage (replace if structurally damaged or deteriorated).
  • End of Play Season:
    • Swings and Rides: Remove swings and store inside when temperatures are below 32°F/0°C to prolong their life, as plastic parts may become brittle in freezing conditions.
    • Shock Absorbing Surfacing: Rake and check depth of loose fill protective surfacing materials.

Safety Information:

The manual includes extensive warnings and safe play instructions, emphasizing continuous adult supervision. Key safety points include:

  • Serious Head Injury Hazard: Requires installation over shock-absorbing material (minimum 9 inches for equipment up to 8 feet high, 6 inches for equipment less than 4 feet high) and explicitly warns against installation over concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass, or carpet.
  • Collision Hazard: Playset must be placed on level ground at least 6 feet from any obstructions.
  • Choking Hazard/Sharp Edges & Points: Adult assembly required; small parts and sharp edges/points should be kept away from children until fully assembled.
  • Strangulation Hazard: Prohibits children from playing with ropes, clotheslines, pet leashes, cables, chains, or cord-like items, wearing loose-fitting clothing, ponchos, hoods, scarves, capes, necklaces, items with draw-strings/cords/ties, or bike/sport helmets while using the playset.
  • Tip Over Hazard: Emphasizes choosing a level location and anchoring the unit properly before use. Ground stakes must be driven 13 inches into the ground, with a warning to check for underground wiring, cables, or gas lines.
  • Safe Play Instructions: Includes guidelines such as observing capacity limits, wearing well-fitting footwear, sitting properly on swings, checking for splintered/broken wood and loose hardware, verifying suspended climbing ropes are secure, and checking slide/plastic rides for excessive heat. Prohibits open-toe footwear, walking near moving rides, twisting swing chains, getting off rides in motion, climbing when wet, rough play, standing/jumping from elevated platforms, swinging empty seats, or going down the slide head first/running up the slide.

Warranty:

A 5-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the original purchase date. Lumber is warranted for 5 years against structural failure due to rot and insect damage. Other parts (hardware, swings, rides, accessories, and slides) carry a one-year warranty. The warranty applies to the original owner and registrant and is non-transferable. It does not cover labor for replacement, incidental/consequential damages, cosmetic defects, vandalism, improper use/installation, acts of nature, minor twisting/warping/checking of wood, or modifications to the product. The warranty is valid for residential use only.

The manual also provides a "Keys to Assembly Success" section with tool requirements, part identification keys, symbols for important information, and hardware assembly tips. It includes detailed step-by-step instructions with diagrams for assembling each component of the playset. Customer service contact information for KidKraft (USA, Canada, and Europe) and an online parts replacement portal are provided.
