Overview

The Kinetik ET-100A is an inner ear thermometer designed for infra-red temperature measurement in the auditory canal. It is a safe and convenient device for measuring human body temperature through the ear.

Function Description:

The thermometer measures temperature by detecting infra-red radiation from the eardrum. It is intended for use in a domestic environment and is designed to provide accurate temperature readings quickly. The device features a liquid crystal display (LCD) to show temperature values and other indicators. It includes a memory function to store previous readings and a low battery warning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Standard Compliance: EN12470-5:2003 Clinical thermometers – Part 5: Performance of infrared ear thermometers (with maximum device). It also complies with IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-11, and IEC 60601-1-2.
  • Temperature Measurement Range: 34°C - 44°C (93.2°F - 111.2°F).
    • Displays L°C (L°F) when temperature is under 34°C (93.2°F).
    • Displays H°C (H°F) when temperature is over 44°C (111.2°F).
  • Operating Ambient Conditions:
    • Temperature: 16°C - 35°C (60.8°F - 95.0°F).
    • Humidity: ≤80%rh.
  • Storage and Transport Conditions:
    • Temperature: -10°C to 55°C (14°F to 131°F).
    • Humidity: 30%rh to 90%rh.
  • Display Resolution: 0.1°C (0.1°F).
  • Accuracy:
    • ±0.2°C (from 35.5°C to 42.0°C).
    • ±0.4°F (from 96.0°F to 107.6°F).
  • Display Type: Liquid crystal display, 4 digits. Displays the maximum temperature during the measuring process.
  • Temperature Unit: Centigrade or Fahrenheit (user selectable).
  • Memory: Stores the last ten measurements.
  • Low Battery Warning: Indicated by a battery symbol on the LCD, followed by a beep sound.
  • Power Consumption: ≤30 mW.
  • Battery: Two 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries.
  • Battery Life: Approximately 4000 measurements or 6 months with 3-minute usage per day.
  • Dimensions: 134mm (length) x 37mm (width) x 67mm (height).
  • Net Weight: 74g.
  • Beeper Sign: Provides audible alerts for on/off, measurement completion, and low voltage.
  • Self-testing Sequence: Upon pressing the 'on/recall' button, all symbols on the LCD are displayed for one second.
  • Calibration: Calibrated at the time of manufacture; periodic re-calibration is not required if used according to instructions.
  • Type BF Applied Part: Indicates the degree of protection against electric shock.
  • Ingress Protection: Classification according to IEC 529 for protection against ingress of water.

Usage Features:

  • Turning On: Press the 'on/recall' button. The thermometer is ready for use when the LCD displays a '?' symbol.
  • Measuring Temperature:
    1. Straighten the ear canal: For children under 1 year, pull the ear straight back. For children aged 1 year to adult, pull the ear up and back.
    2. Insert the probe snugly into the ear canal (without forcing).
    3. Press and immediately release the 'SCAN' button.
    4. Wait for a beep sound, which indicates measurement completion.
    5. Remove the thermometer; the measured temperature will be displayed.
  • Repeat Measurements: Wait at least 1 minute between measurements. Ensure the Ear symbol is visible on the LCD.
  • Memory Search: Press the 'on/recall' button to cycle through the last ten stored memories (N0.9-N0.0).
  • Ambient Temperature Error: If the ambient temperature is outside the range of 16°C to 35°C, the LCD will display 'Er 1', and temperature measurement will not be possible.
  • Automatic Shut-off: The thermometer automatically turns off after one minute of inactivity.
  • Changing Temperature Unit (°C/°F): Turn the unit on, then press and hold the 'on/recall' button for 3 seconds. The display will switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  • Probe Covers: Disposable probe covers are mandatory for each measurement to ensure accuracy and prevent germ spreading. Using the thermometer without a probe cover will result in inaccurate readings (at least 1°C higher). Ensure the probe cover is fitted firmly.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement:
    1. When the low battery symbol appears, replace the batteries.
    2. Remove the battery cover.
    3. Take out the old batteries.
    4. Insert two new 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
    5. If the unit is not used for over six months, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Cleaning and Storage:
    1. Store the thermometer and disposable probe covers in a dry location, free from dust, contamination, and direct sunlight.
    2. The storage temperature should be between -10°C and 55°C.
    3. Before each use, clean the thermometer casing and the measuring probe with an alcohol swab or cotton swab moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
    4. Ensure no liquid enters the interior of the thermometer.
    5. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, thinners, or gasoline.
    6. Never immerse the instrument in water or other cleaning liquids.
    7. Be careful not to scratch the surface of the probe membrane or display.
  • Disposal:
    1. Batteries do not belong in domestic waste and should be handed in at a collection point or municipal recycle material center as special waste.
    2. Consumed electronic products must not be mixed with conventional domestic waste. Take these products to designated collection points for correct treatment and recycling.
    3. The disposal of the probe cover, battery, and device must comply with local environmental requirements. Lithium batteries or fuel cells may lead to excessive temperatures, fire, or explosion if not disposed of properly.

Safety Notices:

  • Condition the thermometer at room temperature for 30 minutes before taking a reading.
  • Do not scratch the probe membrane, as this will affect measurement accuracy.
  • If the LCD does not respond, remove and replace batteries to reset.
  • Do not use the thermometer if the ear canal is inflamed, and do not force it into the ear canal. Stop use immediately if pain occurs.
  • Avoid exposing the thermometer to electric shock, sunlight, or water.
  • Keep the device away from strong electromagnetic fields (e.g., radio systems, mobile phones).
  • Do not modify the device without manufacturer authorization.
  • Always keep the device in a clean, dry area.
