Do you have a question about the KING KMS 20 and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes the King KM 20 and KMS 20 built-in ovens, providing instructions for user operation, installation, and maintenance.
The King built-in ovens are designed for cooking various food items, offering multiple heating functions and precise temperature control. The oven features an oven light, upper and lower heating elements, a simple grill element, a double grill element, a fan grill element, and a convection heating element. It also includes a defrosting function. The oven's thermostat control knob allows for temperature selection between 50°C and 250°C (MAX). A safety thermostat is integrated to prevent overheating by cutting off power in case of a malfunction. A cooling fan operates during cooking and may continue running after the oven is switched off to cool the controls.
The electronic programmer serves multiple functions: indicating the time of day, acting as a minute minder, and enabling automatic oven operation. The programmer displays a "Cookpot symbol" when a program is in operation and an "Auto symbol" when the oven is programmed for automatic operation. It also features a "Child safety function Symbol" to lock the oven controls.
The conventional oven setting utilizes both top and bottom heating elements, suitable for single-level cooking and dishes requiring extra base browning (like quiches and flans) or top browning (like gratins, lasagnes, and hotpots). The top oven element only function is ideal for finishing cooked dishes such as lasagne or shepherd's pie, while the bottom oven element only function is useful for blind-baking pastry or ensuring the base of quiches and flans is thoroughly cooked.
The fan oven uses a heating element around the fan to circulate hot air, maintaining an even temperature. This allows for faster preheating and generally requires lower cooking temperatures compared to conventional ovens. It enables uniform heating across all runner positions, making it suitable for cooking multiple batches of the same food simultaneously without mixing flavors.
The defrosting function uses the oven fan to circulate air at room temperature, accelerating the defrosting process without heat. This is particularly suitable for delicate foods that could be damaged by heat, such as cream-filled gateaux, iced cakes, pastries, bread, and other yeast products.
Grilling can be performed with the oven door closed. The grill function includes a simple grill element and a double grill element. The inner grill element provides quick, direct heat to the central area of the grill pan, saving energy when cooking small quantities. The thermal grill function combines the grill element and the oven fan, circulating hot air around the food. This method reduces the need to check and turn food, minimizes cooking smells, and allows for more gentle cooking of larger loads.
To operate the oven, the time of day must first be set on the electronic timer, which uses a 24-hour clock. The minute minder can be set for a maximum duration of 23 hours and 59 minutes, with an alarm sounding at the end of the timed period. The oven can be programmed to switch off automatically after a set cooking duration or to switch on and off at specific times.
For safety, the oven controls can be locked using the child safety function. This prevents accidental activation, especially when children are present. The display also features a night dimming function, reducing the brightness of figures and symbols between 10 pm and 6 am, unless an automatic function is active.
Before first use, all packaging should be removed, and the oven should be heated empty with the fan cooking function at MAX temperature for approximately 45 minutes, and then with the grill function for 5-10 minutes, with a window open for ventilation. This helps burn off any manufacturing residues and odors.
Always cook with the oven door closed. When opening the door, stand clear and support it using the door handle until it is fully open. The oven has four shelf levels, counted from the bottom. Cookware should not be placed directly on the oven base, as this can cause heat stagnation and damage the enamel.
The oven is equipped with telescopic shelf supports on shelf level 2, which can be pulled out to easily place or remove shelves or the grill pan. Ensure these supports are fully inside the oven before closing the door to prevent damage.
When using the fan oven, preheating is often unnecessary, though it may be beneficial for recipes requiring higher temperatures (e.g., bread, pastries, scones, soufflés). Fan oven cooking generally requires temperatures 20-25°C lower than conventional recipes. For roasting, using a trivet in the meat tin helps drain fat and juices, preventing splashes and allowing for gravy making.
For defrosting, food should be covered with a lid, aluminum foil, or plastic film to prevent drying. Always cook food thoroughly immediately after thawing. Frozen food should be placed in a single layer and turned over halfway through the defrosting process. Only joints of meat and poultry up to 2 kg (4 lb.) are suitable for defrosting in this way.
When grilling, the grill pan handles must be removed. The grid and grill pan runner position should be adjusted based on food thickness, placing food closer to the element for faster cooking and further away for gentler cooking. Preheat the grill on a full setting for a few minutes before use. For thermal grilling, select a maximum temperature of 200°C and do not exceed 1 hour of operation.
Regular cleaning is essential for hygiene and safety. Ensure the appliance is unplugged and completely cooled before any maintenance or cleaning.
For general cleaning, the oven should be cleaned when cold. Enamelled parts should be washed with lukewarm water and soap, avoiding abrasive products, steel wool, or acids. Stainless steel parts should be rinsed thoroughly and dried with a soft cloth. Persistent stains can be removed with non-abrasive or specific cleaning products. The glass of the oven door should be cleaned with hot water, avoiding rough cloths. Hot acids from fruit can stain enamelled surfaces but do not affect oven function. Cleaning the oven after each use makes it easier to remove cooking residues and prevents them from burning on during subsequent uses.
If the oven does not have self-cleaning panels, it should be cleaned carefully after use, once cooled, with hot water and soap or specialized cleaning products.
The oven light bulb can be changed by disconnecting the appliance from the electricity supply, pressing and unscrewing the glass protection sheath, replacing the bulb with one suitable for high temperatures (300°C) with specific characteristics (230 V, 25 W, E14 attachment), and then re-connecting the electricity supply.
The oven door can be removed for thorough cleaning. This involves opening the door completely, lifting and rotating two levers on the hinges, closing the door until it touches the levers, and then pushing the door further towards the closed position to extract it. Reinstallation is the reverse process, ensuring the levers fit completely with the hinges.
Oven shelves should be soaked in warm soapy water and cleaned with a wetted soap-impregnated pad. Shelf supports can also be removed for easier cleaning, but care should be taken not to remove the lubricating grease behind the telescopic runners, which is crucial for their smooth operation.
The oven fan protection filter, provided for cooking meats to prevent fat splashes, should be removed and washed carefully after use. It should not be used for cooking other foods.
In case of technical problems, contact a Technical Assistance Centre and request original spare parts. Do not attempt repairs yourself, as this can damage the appliance and void the guarantee.
When disposing of the appliance, ensure it is made unusable by cutting off the cable, and dispose of packaging and the old appliance responsibly, considering safety and environmental guidelines.
