The KNECHT S 200 S | S 200 BS Universal Wet-Sharpening Machine is designed for grinding, deburring, and polishing various cutting tools, including cutter knives, circular knives, and hand knives. It is available in several versions, including floor models (S 200 S with grinding wheel, S 200 BS without grinding wheel) and table models (S 200 T with grinding wheel, S 200 BT without grinding wheel).
Function Description:
The machine utilizes a combination of grinding wheels, wet-grinding belts, and finned brushes to achieve precise and efficient sharpening.
- Cup Grinding Wheel (S 200 S | S 200 T): This component is used for quickly removing a significant amount of material, ideal for repairing heavily damaged cutter knives. It is also used for chamfering edges, such as on circular knives. The desired grinding angle can be steplessly adjusted.
- Fixtures for Grinding Wheel:
- HV 207 Swivel arm: For grinding sickle-shaped cutter knives.
- HV 203 Universal grinding arm: For grinding linear and sickle-shaped cutter knives.
- HV 205-1 Circular knife grinding attachment: For grinding circular knives between 80-250 mm.
- HV 205-2 Circular knife grinding attachment: For grinding circular knives between 250-470 mm.
- HV 201 Dressing tool: For dressing the cup grinding wheel.
- Finned Brushes (all versions): These are used for deburring and polishing linear and sickle-shaped cutter knives, as well as hand knives.
- Wet-Grinding Belt (all versions): This enables tapered and convex grinding. Cutter knives are ground in corresponding clamping devices, while hand knives can be ground without fixtures.
- Fixtures for Wet-Grinding Belt:
- HV 261 Belt-grinding attachment: For grinding sickle-shaped cutter knives.
- HV 262 Universal belt-grinding unit: For grinding sickle-shaped and linear cutter knives.

Usage Features:
- Operation: The machine is switched on by turning the coolant pump and grinding motor switches from "OFF" to "ON". The grinding wheel, wet-grinding belt, and finned brush will then start rotating.
- Grinding Fundamentals: To sharpen, metal is removed until a small burr appears. This burr is then carefully removed with the finned brush by applying moderate pressure (6-10 times, alternating left and right). The cutting edge angle is crucial for blade performance, ideally between 25° and 35°. Angles below 15° are unstable, while angles above 40° lose sharpness quickly. The machine supports convex, tapered, and concave ground surfaces.
- HV 207 Swivel Arm (optional, S 200 S | S 200 T): Used for grinding sickle-shaped cutter knives. It allows for precise angle grinding with minimal effort, suitable for pre-grinding and regrinding.
- HV 261 Belt-Grinding Unit (optional, all versions): Used for grinding sickle-shaped cutter knives, enabling precise angles with simple operation.
- HV 203 Universal Grinding Arm (optional, S 200 S | S 200 T): For grinding linear and sickle-shaped cutter knives, providing precise angles with minimal effort for pre-grinding and regrinding.
- HV 262 Universal Belt-Grinding Unit (optional, all versions): For grinding linear and sickle-shaped cutter knives, allowing for precise angles.
- Deburring with Finned Brush: After grinding, the burr is removed using the finned brush to achieve final sharpness. Polishing paste is applied to the finned brush, and the knife is guided along the brush at a steep angle, alternating between upper and lower sides until the burr is gone.
- Dressing the Grinding Wheel (S 200 S | S 200 T): The HV 201 Dressing tool is used to dress uneven or unevenly ground grinding wheels. It involves adjusting a nut and rotating a dressing diamond against the grinding wheel to ensure a level surface.
- Adjusting the Grinding Wheel Guard (S 200 S | S 200 T): The guard can be adjusted by loosening a star handle and sliding it so its upper edge is approximately 5 mm below the grinding wheel edge, then tightening the handle.
- Changing the Grinding Wheel (S 200 S | S 200 T): A screw in the center of the grinding wheel is loosened to remove it. The contact surface is cleaned, and a new, original grinding wheel is mounted in reverse order.
- Changing the Wet-Grinding Belt: A star handle is loosened to open the belt protection hood, which automatically disconnects the power. The used belt is removed, and a new one is placed over the contact disc and guide pulley, ensuring it passes under the water nozzle. The belt movement can be adjusted if it is not running in the center of the contact disc.
- Changing the Finned Brush: Cap nuts are loosened to remove the polishing protection hood. The clamping nut is opened to pull the used finned brush from the grinding spindle and replace it with a new, original one.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: The machine should be cleaned after each sharpening session to prevent grinding sludge from drying. The coolant must be replaced weekly, and the water tank cleaned each time. The grinding machine should not be sprayed with water, and the finned brush should not get wet.
- Lubrication:
- Cleaning and care of machine parts: Dry clean stainless steel (Interflon) or use stainless steel care spray (Würth), Risella 917 (SHELL), or Marcol 82 (EXXON Mobil).
- Lubricate threads and sliding surfaces: Fin Grease (Interflon) or multi-purpose grease (Würth), Gadus S2 (SHELL), or Ronex MP (EXXON Mobil).
- Maintenance Plan (one-shift operation):
- Daily: Clean all machine surfaces with a soft cloth and care spray.
- Weekly: Lubricate star handle threads and guideways with multi-purpose grease. Replace coolant and clean the water tank.
