3.26 Long-term storage
3.26.1 Before storage
NOTE
To protect the cylinder rod when the machine is not being used,
set the work equipment in the posture shown in the diagram.
(This prevents rusting of the cylinder rod)
When putting the machine in storage for a long time, do as fol-
lows.
z
Clean and wash all parts, then store the machine indoors. If
the machine has to be stored outdoors, select level ground
and cover the machine with a sheet.
z
Completely fill the fuel tank, lubricate and change the oil
before storage.
z
Apply a thin coat of grease to the metal surface of the
hydraulic piston rods.
z
Disconnect the negative terminals of the battery and cover it
or remove it from the machine and store it separately.
z
If the ambient temperature is expected to drop below 0°C,
add antifreeze to the cooling water.
z
Raise safety lock lever to the LOCK position.
z
Set the stop valve to the LOCK position on machines which
can install attachments. Install a plug in the elbow.
3.26.2 During storage
WARNING
If it is unavoidably necessary to carry out the rust preventive
operation while the machine is indoors, open the doors and win-
dows to improve ventilation and prevent gas poisoning.
Operate the engine and move the machine for a short distance
once a month so that a new film of oil will be coated over mov-
able parts and component surfaces. At the same time, also
charge the battery.
Also carry out cooler operation in the case of machines
equipped with an air conditioner.
