Overview

Fire Damper UVA60 M / UVA120 M

This document outlines the installation and maintenance procedures for the Komfovent Fire Damper UVA60 M and UVA120 M. These fire dampers are designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke through ventilation ducts in various building constructions.

Function Description

The Komfovent Fire Damper UVA60 M / UVA120 M is a critical component in fire safety systems, designed to automatically close and seal ventilation ducts in the event of a fire. This action prevents the passage of flames, hot gases, and smoke, thereby maintaining the integrity of fire compartments and allowing for safe evacuation and fire containment. The damper's operation is triggered by a temperature sensor, typically set at 72°C, which activates an actuator to close the blade. The design incorporates an intumescent seal that expands when exposed to heat, further enhancing the fire-stopping capability.

The damper consists of a casing, a movable blade, an actuator (available in BFL 24V / 230V options), an intumescent seal, an axle for the blade, a temperature sensor, and connection cables for the actuator. The blade's position can be manually operated or automatically controlled by the actuator. The two integrated switches in the actuator can be operated either on power supply voltage or at safety extra-low voltage, but not a combination of both.

Usage Features

Installation Process:

  1. Pre-installation Check: Inspect the fire damper for any damages.
  2. Blade Operation Check: Verify that the blade opens and closes without resistance by pressing the "Push" button. Lubricate rotation points if sticking occurs.
  3. Blade Exposure: For dampers Ø315 mm and larger, consider the blade's exposure into the duct.
  4. Blade Position: Dampers are delivered with the blade closed. Ensure the blade is open during installation to prevent incomplete closing or damage. Blade position (0° closed, 90° open) is indicated on the actuator casing.
  5. Actuator Protection: Cover the actuator with plastic film or other material to protect it from construction dust and debris during installation.
  6. Opening Preparation: Prepare the installation opening in the wall or ceiling according to the chosen installation method and specified dimensions (e.g., Dnom + 30 mm, Dnom + 80 mm, Dnom + 90 mm).
  7. Mounting Accessories: Use appropriate mounting accessories (US-type for walls, UL-type for ceilings) to secure the damper in the opening. These accessories are reusable.
    • Collar Positioning: For Ø100-315 mm, the collar is placed behind the main mechanism/actuator. For Ø355-560 mm, a 50 mm distance is maintained between the red tape and the collar. The red tape should be within the supporting construction.
  8. Fastening: Securely attach the fire damper to the supporting construction using suitable fasteners.
  9. Filling Gaps: Fill the gap between the damper casing and the supporting construction with the prescribed filler (mortar, mineral wool, fire stopping mastic/coating) and allow it to dry completely before removing mounting kits.
  10. Final Verification: Visually check for secure installation, undamaged lever system, and proper blade operation (closing and opening without seizing).
  11. Blade State: Ensure the fire damper is left in its normal working position with the blade OPEN after installation and verification.
  12. Electrical Connection: Before connecting the actuator, verify that the blade can rotate to the Open position after power supply connection and return to the Closed position upon power cut-off.
  13. Safety Compliance: Observe all EU working safety and fire safety standards during installation.

Important Installation Notes:

  • Load Prevention: Install fire dampers to prevent any excess load from ducts or supporting constructions.
  • Spacing: Maintain a minimum distance of 200 mm between multiple fire dampers and at least 75 mm from walls, ceilings, or partitions. A 300 mm access space to the actuator is recommended.
  • Blade Axle Orientation: For wall installations, the blade axle must be positioned horizontally only. The blade must always be placed INSIDE the supporting construction.
  • Blade Position in Construction: The blade should be positioned into the supporting construction, ideally closer to its center. Red duct tape can serve as a guide.
  • Actuator Clearance: Maintain a minimum 8-10 mm distance between the supporting construction edge and the actuator mechanism.
  • Prohibited Operations: Do not accept the fire damper into operation if:
    • The inspection hatch is inaccessible.
    • The blade is blocked in the open position.
    • The casing is damaged.
    • Installation requirements are not met.
    • Fasteners prevent blade closure.
    • Gaps remain unfilled.
    • The damper is installed remotely from the wall/ceiling.
    • Construction waste/dust is present on surfaces.
    • The actuator is disconnected or loose.
    • Wires run through the fire damper.
