Overview

The KOTLIE Multi Capsule Coffee Machine, model AC-513K, is a versatile appliance designed for household use, offering a convenient way to prepare various types of coffee. This machine is engineered with careful attention to detail, promising years of reliable service when properly maintained. Before operation, users are strongly advised to read the entire instruction manual, paying particular attention to the safety precautions to ensure safe and correct usage.

Function Description

The primary function of this device is to brew coffee using different capsule types, including Nespresso capsules, K-Cup capsules, and coffee powder. It achieves this through a multi-capsule adapter system, allowing users to switch between various coffee formats. The machine is equipped with a heating system that ensures the water reaches the optimal temperature for brewing, indicated by steady lights on the control buttons after a warm-up period of approximately 45 seconds.

The brewing process is initiated by pressing a cup key, which allows users to select their desired brewing amount (small cup or large cup). The machine then dispenses coffee into a cup placed under the dispenser. After brewing, the used capsule or coffee powder adapter can be easily removed and disposed of. The machine also features an energy-saving mode, automatically turning off after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve power. This mode can be canceled by pressing the switch button.

Usage Features

The KOTLIE coffee machine offers several user-friendly features to enhance the coffee-making experience:

  • Multi-Capsule Compatibility: The machine comes with different adapters for Nespresso capsules, K-Cup capsules, and coffee powder, providing flexibility in coffee choices. To use, the handle is opened, the appropriate brewing basket (adapter) is pulled out, the capsule or coffee powder is inserted, and the basket is pushed back in before closing the handle.
  • Water Tank Filling Options: The water tank can be filled in two ways: directly into the machine by raising the water tank cover and pouring cold fresh water (maximum capacity 0.6 litres), or by removing the water tank, filling it up to the "MAX" mark, and then sliding it back onto the base until it locks securely.
  • First-Time Use and Flushing: Before initial use or after long periods of inactivity, the machine requires a flushing procedure to clean the internal piping. This involves ensuring the water tank is full, placing a large bowl under the dispenser, and pressing the lungo coffee button. The handle should be closed without a capsule inside during this process.
  • Coffee Volume Setting: Users can customize the coffee volume for both small and big cups. While the machine is in normal working condition, pressing and holding either the small cup or big cup button allows the user to release it once the desired coffee volume is reached. The small cup volume can be set between 15s and 90s, and the big cup volume between 15s and 90s.
  • Factory Reset: The machine can be reset to its factory default settings by pressing the big cup button while inserting the plug into the socket. The indicator lights will flash twice to confirm the reset.
  • Standby Mode Customization: The default standby mode activates after 15 minutes of inactivity. Users can activate or cancel standby mode by pressing both the small and big cup buttons simultaneously while plugging in the machine. Pressing the small cup button then toggles the standby mode on or off.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of the KOTLIE coffee machine. The manual outlines several key maintenance procedures:

  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning is essential. The water tank should be thoroughly rinsed with fresh water before first use, and the machine itself should be cleaned with a damp cloth. For brewing cup cleaning, the used coffee capsule/pod should be taken out. Holistic cleaning involves drying with a fresh towel, cloth, or paper, reassembling all parts, and regularly cleaning the coffee outlet and inside the machine with a damp cloth. It is strictly advised not to immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid, use strong cleaning agents, solvent cleaners, sharp objects, brushes, or abrasives. The machine should always be unplugged before cleaning.
  • Decalcification: Due to lime particles in hard drinking water, decalcification is necessary to prevent blockages and damage. This should be done after making 300 to 400 cups of coffee or every one to two months, or if the output significantly decreases. The process involves using a commercially available decalcifier (diluted according to manufacturer instructions) poured into the water tank. A large bowl should be placed under the dispensing head to collect residues. The lungo button is pressed to run the decalcifying water, repeating until the tank is empty. This process is repeated with another tank of decalcifying solution, followed by flushing the internal circuit with a tank of fresh water to remove any remaining solution. Vinegar should not be used for decalcification as it can cause damage and affect coffee taste.
  • Self-Priming Procedure: If the machine has difficulty pumping water, especially after long pauses, a self-priming procedure can be performed. This involves removing the water tank, inserting a hose into the water inlet at the bottom of the tank, injecting a small amount of water into the hose, and then pushing a pump down to force water into the machine and clear air from the pipe.

Safety Precautions

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions to prevent electric shock, scalding, and other hazards:

  • Never immerse the machine in water or any other liquid.
  • Always connect to a properly grounded power point.
  • Unplug the machine before relocating, cleaning, maintenance, or during long periods of disuse.
  • Never clamp or run the power cable over sharp corners or edges.
  • Damaged power cables must be replaced by the customer service centre.
  • Avoid touching the power plug/socket/cable or machine with damp or wet hands.
  • Never unplug by pulling the power cable; always remove the plug.
  • If an extension cable is needed, ensure it is suitable (3-pole grounded, 1.5 mm2 conductor cross-section) and laid to avoid tripping.
  • Never move the machine during operation to avoid scalding.
  • Do not use the machine if it is faulty, has a damaged power cable, or after falling or other damage; have it checked and repaired by the customer service centre.
  • The machine should be placed on a dry, stable, and level surface, at least 60 cm away from washbasins and taps, and not on flammable/fusible surfaces or near hot surfaces or open flames.
  • Never cover the machine during operation.
  • Keep children away from the machine during operation.
  • Do not open the handle when the machine is brewing.
  • Be aware of the sharp needle in the capsule adapter and avoid putting hands or fingers near it, especially after the adapter is removed.
  • The adapter remains very hot after brewing, so caution is advised.

By adhering to these instructions and precautions, users can ensure the safe and effective operation of their KOTLIE Multi Capsule Coffee Machine.
