Do you have a question about the KUST Elektronik LM1050 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The KUST LM1050 is a precision LCR meter designed for accurate measurement of impedance components. It offers a wide range of functions and features for various testing scenarios, including component sorting, sweep testing, and deviation analysis.

Function Description:

The LM1050 can test four parameters for an impedance component: two primary parameters and two secondary parameters.

  • Primary parameters: |Z| (Module of impedance), |Y| (Module of admittance), L (Inductance), C (Capacitance), R (Resistance), G (Conductance), and DCR (DC resistance).
  • Secondary parameters: D (Dissipation factor), Q (Quality factor), Rs (Equivalent Series Resistance ESR), Rp (Equivalent Parallel Resistance), X (Reactance), B (Admittance), and θ (Phase Angle).

Test results for both primary and secondary parameters are displayed in upper-case characters, with the primary parameter on the upper line and the secondary on the lower.

Usage Features:

The LM1050 features a user-friendly interface with a 800x480 colorful TFT LCD display. Navigation is primarily done using menu keys ([DISP], [SETUP], [SYSTEM]) and soft keys. Cursor keys ([←][→]) and a slide switch allow movement between zones on the display. Numeric keys, [BACKSPACE], and [ENTER] are used for data input, with unit soft keys available for specifying units like Hz, V, or A. The default unit for frequency is Hz.

Key Features and Operations:

  • Test Function (FUNC): Allows selection of the desired primary and secondary parameters for measurement.
  • Test Range (RANGE): The instrument offers 10 AC ranges (1Ω to 1MΩ) and 10 DCR measurement ranges (1Ω to 1MΩ). Users can select "AUTO" for automatic range selection or "HOLD" to lock the current range and manually adjust it using ↑(+) and ↓(-) soft keys.
  • Test Frequency (FREQ): The LM1050 provides a wide measurement range from 20Hz to 5MHz with a resolution of 0.01Hz. Frequency can be set using coarse (↑(++) / ↓(--)) and fine (↑(+) / ↓(-)) adjustment soft keys, or by direct numeric input with units (Hz, kHz, MHz).
  • DC Bias: Internal DC bias voltage from -5V to +5V can be applied. The [DC BIAS] key on the front panel enables or disables the DC bias output.
  • Test Level (LEVEL): The measurement level can be set according to the RMS value of the sine wave signal. The instrument supports constant voltage (10mVrms to 5Vrms) and constant current (100µArms to 100mArms) modes.
  • Test Speed (SPEED): Users can select FAST, MED, or SLOW test modes. Slower speeds generally provide more stable and accurate results.
  • Trigger Mode (TRIG): Four trigger modes are available: INT (sequential, repeated tests), MAN (manual trigger via [TRIGGER] key), EXT (external trigger via HANDLER interface), and BUS (IEEE 488 interface command).
  • Auto Level Control (ALC): This function adjusts the real test level to maintain a constant test voltage or current across the DUT.
  • Delay Time (DELAY): Sets the delay time from triggering to the start of the test, ranging from 0s to 60s with 1ms resolution.
  • Output Resistance (Rsou.): Four output impedances are available: 100Ω, 50Ω, 30Ω, and 10Ω.
  • Average Times (AVG): Calculates the average value of multiple test results, with average times settable from 1 to 255.
  • Level Monitor (Vm, Im): Monitors the real voltage across or current through the DUT.
  • Deviation Test Function: Displays the deviation value (absolute or percentage) instead of the real test value, useful for observing parameter variations.
  • Open, Short, and Load Correction: These functions eliminate measurement errors caused by stray capacitance, spurious impedance, and other factors. Correction can be performed on all frequency points via interpolation or at the currently set frequency point.
  • BIN NO. DISP (Component Sorting): Allows sorting of components into up to 10 bins (BIN1 to BIN9 and BIN OUT) based on user-defined high/low limits for primary and secondary parameters. Two limit setup modes are available: Tolerance mode (percentage or absolute deviation from a nominal value) and Sequential mode (sequential ranges).
  • LIST SWEEP: Performs automatic sweep tests for up to 10 points of test frequencies, test levels, or DC bias. Two sweep modes are available: SEQ (sequential test of all points) and STEP (single step test per trigger).
  • File Management: User-set parameters can be saved to non-volatile memory as *.LCR files. The instrument supports saving up to 100 such files internally, with external U-disk support for additional storage. Files can be loaded, stored, deleted, found, and copied to/from a U-disk.
  • System Setup: Allows configuration of basic system settings such as LCD brightness, display theme (Royalblue, Seagreen, Steelblue), key sound, language, password, file format, date, and time.
  • Test Setup: Configures beeper settings for PASS and FAIL conditions, bias source, handler mode, trigger edge, and file information.
  • Interface Setup: Configures communication interfaces including RS232C, GPIB, LAN, USBTMC, and USBCDC, along with baud rate settings for RS232C.
  • About System: Displays basic instrument information and allows for factory reset and firmware updates.
