Do you have a question about the Lacanche BFUS900 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document provides comprehensive use and maintenance instructions for the Lacanche BFUS900, a high-performance built-in extraction system designed for domestic kitchens. The BFUS900 is intended to be integrated into kitchen furniture, over mantles, or a chimney, and is vented from the top to efficiently remove cooking smells and fumes. Its design emphasizes effective extraction while maintaining a sleek, integrated appearance within the kitchen environment.

Function Description

The Lacanche BFUS900 serves as a kitchen extractor hood, designed to remove airborne grease, combustion products, fumes, smoke, heat, and steam from the air by evacuating it to the outside through a ducting system. It features a powerful blower motor and integrated lighting to illuminate the cooking area. The system is controlled via a user-friendly panel with push buttons for various functions, including light control, motor speed adjustment, and a timer. The primary function is to maintain a clean and fresh kitchen atmosphere by preventing the accumulation of cooking by-products.

Usage Features

The BFUS900 extraction system is equipped with several features to enhance its usability and performance:

  • Extraction Performance: The hood is designed for optimal extraction when connected to a 150mm diameter duct. The efficiency of the system is highly dependent on the ducting design, with shorter routes and fewer bends yielding better performance. Double blower models require two independent duct runs. It is crucial not to reduce the ducting diameter below 150mm, as this can severely degrade performance and potentially damage the motor, which would not be covered by warranty. The hood is vented from the top, and its positioning should prioritize the shortest duct route and fewest bends.
  • Headroom Requirements: Specific minimum headroom is required for installation to ensure proper function and prevent overheating. This includes a nominal cooker height of 900mm, a minimum cooker-to-hood clearance of 750mm, and a hood height of 325mm.
  • Ventilation: Adequate room ventilation is essential, especially when the extractor is used simultaneously with other fuel-burning appliances (e.g., gas or oil-fired heaters). The room must have vents to allow a constant flow of fresh air, preventing negative pressures that could affect the safe operation of other appliances.
  • Controls: The extractor features a control panel with push buttons for easy operation:
    • Light Switch (A): Turns the cooking counter lighting on or off. The hood is equipped with halogen lamps for effective illumination.
    • Motor Switch On/Off (1st Level) (B): Activates the motor at its lowest speed setting.
    • Second Speed Motor Switch (C): Adjusts the motor to a medium speed for increased extraction.
    • Third Speed Motor Switch (D): Sets the motor to a higher speed for more demanding cooking situations.
    • Fourth Speed Motor Switch (E): Engages the motor at its maximum speed for powerful extraction.
    • 10-Minute Run-On Timer Switch (F): Activates a timer that allows the extractor to continue running for 10 minutes after cooking, ensuring all residual fumes are cleared. This button also serves to reset the grease filter alarm.
  • Installation: The BFUS900 is designed for secure installation into kitchen furniture or over mantles using a minimum 18mm thick base board. The base board must be robust enough to support the extractor's weight. Detailed cut-out dimensions are provided for precise integration. The extractor should be positioned as far forward as possible over the Lacanche range to ensure comprehensive coverage of all burners and prevent smoke spillage.
  • Electrical Connection: The appliance requires an earth connection and must be connected to a 230Vac single-phase electrical supply via fixed wiring. A switched spur with a 3A fuse (for single blower models) or a 5A fuse (for double blower models) is required, located adjacent to the hood/cooker for easy disconnection. A competent electrical technician must perform the installation.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the BFUS900's good performance, longevity, and safety. The manual outlines several key maintenance procedures:

  • Grease Filter Cleaning: The grease filters are designed to capture airborne grease and require regular cleaning. After approximately 30 hours of use, the control panel buttons will flash, signaling that the grease filters are saturated. To reset this alarm, button F must be pressed after cleaning. The filters can be cleaned in a dishwasher or by hand-washing in hot water with detergent. It is recommended to wash them at least once a month, or more frequently if the extractor is used extensively.
    • Removing Grease Filters: To remove, slide the filter towards the back of the extractor, then pull it downwards and away from the extractor.
    • Refitting Grease Filters: To refit, position the rear of the filter into the grease tray, then push the filter upwards until it locks into position.
  • Grease Tray Cleaning: Alongside the grease filters, the grease tray, which collects grease from the open filters, must also be cleaned regularly.
    • Removing Grease Tray: With the grease filters removed, locate the four fixing screws (two per tray) on the rear wall of the hood. Release these fixings by hand or with a flat blade screwdriver. Once the screws are loose, pull the tray downwards.
    • Cleaning Grease Tray: Remove excess grease from the trays and clean them in hot soapy water or place them in a dishwasher.
    • Reinstalling Grease Tray: Reverse the removal procedure to reinstall the trays.
  • Surface Cleaning: To maintain the immaculate appearance of the stainless steel surfaces, use only a damp cloth. Abrasive cleaning materials or products should not be used, as they can damage the surface.
  • Halogen Lamp Replacement: The halogen lamps can be replaced when needed. To do this, gently ease the lamp away from the extractor using a small flat blade screwdriver. The replacement bulb must be of the same rated type: 20W, 12V halogen.
  • Safety Precautions: Before carrying out any maintenance operations, the appliance must be unplugged or the circuit breaker switched off to prevent electrical hazards. Adhering to cleaning instructions for grease filters and deposits is vital to minimize fire risk, especially when frying. Flambéing directly under the extractor is not recommended.

The Lacanche BFUS900 is designed for domestic use only and is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person.
