Overview

This document provides user instructions for the Lamona LAM6050 Built-Under Fridge, a refrigeration appliance designed for household and similar domestic applications. It covers installation, operation, maintenance, and safety information to ensure safe and economical use.

Function Description

The Lamona LAM6050 is a built-under fridge with a freezer box, designed to store edible foodstuffs. It operates on a refrigeration cycle that may cause the rear wall to be wet or frozen, which is a normal part of its cooling process. The appliance features a temperature control dial (0-5, with 5 being the coldest) to adjust the internal temperature. It is equipped with glass shelves, door shelves, a bottle shelf, a salad crisper, and a freezer box for various storage needs. The fridge compartment defrosts automatically, with defrost water collecting in a channel at the back. The freezer box requires manual defrosting when a frost layer of about 7mm (1/4") has formed. The appliance is designed to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from 10°C to 43°C.

Usage Features

  • Temperature Control: The operating temperature is controlled by a thermostat dial with settings from 0 to 5, where 5 is the coldest. The recommended average fridge temperature is no higher than +4°C, with an initial setting of 3 suggested for the first 24 hours. During warmer periods, the dial may need to be turned to a colder setting.
  • Storage Zones: Due to natural air circulation, the fridge has different temperature zones. The coldest area is directly above the fruit and vegetable drawer and at the back of the appliance. Food should not touch the back wall to prevent freezing. The warmest areas are at the top, in the frontal area, and in the upper door section, suitable for items like butter and cheese.
  • Freezer Box: The freezer box is rated ****, making it suitable for freezing fresh food and storing pre-frozen food. Users should always observe the frozen food storage information provided on packaging.
  • Ice Cube Making: Ice cubes can be made by filling the ice-cube tray 3/4 full with water and placing it in the freezer box. Frozen trays can be loosened with a spoon handle or a similar blunt object. Sharp objects like knives or forks should never be used.
  • Shelf Adjustment: The glass shelves and door shelves can be removed and adjusted to accommodate different food storage requirements. Shelves should only be removed or adjusted when empty. The raised edge on the protective strip at the back of the shelves must face upwards to prevent food from touching the rear wall and freezing.
  • Salad Crisper: The salad crisper lid can be lifted vertically for removal. Fresh fruit and vegetables should be cleaned and stored in this drawer.
  • Food Storage Guidelines:
    • Raw and cooked food should be kept separate, and raw foods should not drip onto cooked items.
    • Hot food should be allowed to cool to room temperature before being placed in the refrigerator.
    • Frozen food should be defrosted inside the refrigerator.
    • Food should be covered with packaging to preserve freshness and aroma, and liquids should be in closed containers to avoid odors.
    • Raw meat should be stored in polythene bags on the lowest shelf for no more than two to three days.
    • Certain fruits and vegetables (pineapples, melon, cucumbers, tomatoes) that suffer damage near 0°C should be wrapped in polythene bags.
    • Bottles can be placed in the door section, and shelves can be tilted for bottle storage.
    • Explosive substances, high-proof alcohol (unless upright in sealed containers), and food in opened cans should not be stored in the appliance.
    • Bananas and melons should generally not be stored in the appliance, though melons can be chilled for short periods if wrapped.
    • The door should not be left open for long periods to avoid increased running costs.
    • Poisonous or dangerous substances should not be stored in the appliance.
    • Food should not be consumed if stored for an excessive time.
    • Defrosting food or food juices should not drip onto food below.
    • Bottles or cans should not be stored in the freezer box.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • The appliance should be switched off at the mains socket and unplugged before any cleaning or maintenance.
    • The interior and accessories should be cleaned regularly (monthly for the fridge, during defrosting for the freezer box) using lukewarm water with a suitable, food-safe cleaning agent. Bicarbonate of soda can be added to water to help remove persistent odors.
    • Spillages should be removed immediately.
    • After cleaning, the interior should be dried with a soft cloth, and the doors left open to dry and prevent odor buildup.
    • The door seals should be cleaned regularly with a mild detergent and clean cloth. They can be removed for a deeper clean, but extreme care must be taken not to damage them during removal or replacement.
    • The ventilation grille should be cleaned regularly with a soft brush and vacuum cleaner to prevent dust buildup, which can increase energy consumption.
    • Prohibited Cleaning Agents: Do not use cleaning agents containing ammonia, acids, chlorides, de-scaling agents, abrasive agents (powder or cream cleaners), solvent-based agents, dishwasher cleaning agents, oven sprays, glass cleaning sprays, hard/abrasive sponges/brushes, or sharp metal scrapers, as these can damage surfaces.
    • Prohibited Defrosting Methods: Do not use mechanical devices, sharp-edged objects (knives, forks), hairdryers, electrical heaters, or defrosting sprays/de-icers to accelerate defrosting, as these can damage the appliance or pose health risks.
    • Cleaning water must not drain into the defrost drain hole.
  • Defrosting Fridge Compartment: The fridge defrosts automatically. If defrost water does not drain, check for obstructions in the drain channel and clear it using the provided plastic plunger. If ice builds up, set the temperature control to a warmer setting for a few hours until the ice melts.
  • Defrosting Freezer Box: Defrost the freezer box twice a year or when a 7mm (1/4") frost layer forms. To defrost, switch off and unplug the appliance. Wrap frozen food in newspaper and store it in a cool place. Containers of warm water can be placed in the freezer box to speed up defrosting. Use towels to collect defrost water. After defrosting, sponge out any collected water and dry the interior thoroughly. Re-plug the appliance and load food after 2-4 hours to ensure sufficient cold temperature.
  • Interior Light Replacement: The interior light is an E14 screw cap 1W LED type lamp. To replace it, switch off and unplug the appliance, remove the light cover (the top shelf may need to be removed for easier access), replace the lamp, and refit the cover.
  • Long-Term Storage: If the appliance will not be used for a long period, switch it off, remove all food, clean it, and leave the door ajar.
