gear
type couplings
require
lubdcation).
With
belt driven
machines, sheaves
must
be
well
aligned and
proper
belt
tension
maintained
to
prevent
sxcessive
slip.
Always
use
matched belts
for
multiple
belt drives. Check
belt
tension
with
tensiometer.
Part numbers below
refer
to standard
Repair
Parts List 25.41.30.
To remove free bearing
(drive
end):
A. Remove
motor if
direct drive unit.
B. Pull coupling
half. Do not
knock
or
pry
it
otf shaft
(lf
a
press-fit
coupling-no set
screws-heating to
212'F.
should
permit
removal). lf
the
machine is
belt driven,
remove
the
driven
sheave.
C.
Remove oiler bottle
(ltem
#30). Also
remove micrometer leveling rod located loose inside
oiler
base. Drain
oilby
removing the
magnetic
pipe plug
(ltem
tf9) at
bottom of oil
reservoir
(ltem
#25).
D. Remove oil
reservoir
cap,
gasket,
(bearing
locknut,
&
lockwasher-
"1400'&
"RAC 1800"
only), oil slinger,
bearing spacer &
(lockwasher-
"510"- "1260"
only)
(ltems
#6, 20A, 23,24,21,
5 & 24
respectively).
Loosen
bolts
holding
labyrinth
(ltem
#'10)
or carbon
ring
seal
(ltem
#10A).
E. Remove the oil
reservoir
(ltem
#25) and
gasket
(ltem
#20).
For
"510" through
''1260'
machines,
a set of cap
scra,vs connected
internally
through the
back of the oil
reservoir fasten
it
to
the
bearing housing. F0r "1400"
&
"1800" machines,
unfastening the reservoir cap also unfastens
the
oil reservoir.
F. Rsmove cap
screws
holding
bearing
housing
(ltem
#3)to outlet
head
(ltem
#17).

Attach
puller
to
bearing housing. Pull
the
housing, bearing, wavy
spring
washer
and
head
gasket
(ltems
#3,
26,
19,
and
18 respectively)
and
for "510'
through
'1260"
machines
a
grease
slinger
(ltem
#27A) off
shaft.
Do
not
use
hammer
or
wedges
to
pry
housing.
H. Remove
bearing
(ltem
#26)
wavy
spring
washer
(ltem
#19)
and
grease
slinger
(ltem
#27A)

only)
from housing
(ltem
f3). lf
necessary,
using extreme care,
tap
bearing out from
back of
housing.

Clean
parts
thoroughly.
Keep
covered and
protected.
lf
oilslinger

grease
slinger

is
damaged or bent,
replace with
a
new
one.
To
install free
bearing:
A.
Bolt bearing
housing firmly
to outlet
head.
Be absolutely
certain to orient
the
bearing housing with
the oil
return hole
at the bottom. Tighten
bolts slowly and evenly.
Alternate from
one bolt to the bolt opposite
to
prevent
cocking.
lf
gasket
(ltem
#18)
is
damaged,
replace with
neur
one of
identical
specifications.
Place
wavy
spring
washer
(ltem
#19) against
housing
shoulder
&
for
"510'
-'1260"
machines
place grease
slinger
(ltem
#274)on shaft.
B.
To facilitate replacing
the bearing
(ltem
#26),
lightly
oil the bearing
housing
bore
and the shaft seat.
A light
coat
of
oil applied
to
all
surfaces of the bearing also
helps with
assembly and
protects
the bearing
from
damage under the
weight
of the
rotor.
Use special bearing drive
tools,
available from
Lamson,
to
mount new
bearing
(ltem
#26).
Be
certain that
bearing
is
per
Lamson
Corporation
specifications.
Exercise
extreme care
to drive both
inner
and outer
races
simultaneously.
Avold
striking balls or
retainer
or damaging
races.
Use
clean
tools and
keep
bearing
absolutely
free
of dirt.
When
tapping
on
the drive tool, keep rotating between
taps and
support shaft axially at
end
to
prevent
damage
to
thrust bearing.
Put
on bearing
lochrasher
(ltem
#24)
('510"-
'1260'
only) against the bearing.
Slip, or screw on tightly,
bearing spacer
(ltem
#5)
onto shaft
and
against the
locf$asher
or bearing.
The
end
of the bearing spacer
wlh
ths
lip
or
holes must face
away
from
bearing.
Lock in
place
with
the
loch^,asher
("510'-
"1260"
only).
Mount
oil
reservoir
(ltem
#25)
with
gasket
(ltem
#20A) to bearing
housing
(ltem
#3). lf
gasket
is
damaged,
replace with a new one
of
identical
specifications.
Fasten
oilslinger
(ltem
lt21) to bearing spacer
with cap
screws &
lockwashers
or
place
oilslinger against
Spacer
with
l.D.
of
slinger over
the
lip
of
the spacer.
Put
on bearing
lockwasher
and
locknut
(ltems
lf24 and
23)
("1
400'
and
"RAC 1
800" only).
Tighten down
firmly
and secure
locknut with lockwasher.
