Do you have a question about the Lancol CTE-4000 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Lancol CTE-4000 is a stationary battery analyzer designed for professional use in battery management. It measures the conductance and voltage of 12V sealed lead-acid batteries, commonly found in security systems, emergency lighting, mobility vehicles, and uninterruptible power supplies. The primary function of the CTE-4000 is to identify the status of these batteries, categorizing them as "good," "serviceable," or needing "replacement."

Function Description

The analyzer operates by measuring the battery's status in both voltage and conductance values. Conductance values are displayed in Siemens (S). While Ampere-hours (Ah) are a typical measure of jar capacity, they are difficult to measure without knowing the load. Therefore, Lancol recommends using a reference value to compare against test results. A reference value is a typical conductance value for the specific type of jars being tested. The manual provides detailed instructions on how to determine a suitable reference value, which is crucial for accurate battery assessment.

The CTE-4000 offers a quick test function that does not require setting parameters in the MENU. If the "OK" button is pressed directly after power-on, the default parameters in the MENU will be used. For testing different batteries, users are advised to enter the MENU function to set specific battery parameters.

The device includes several key features for operation and data management:

  • Key Description: It has "Up/Down" keys for navigation, a "Return and Menu" key to go back to the previous menu or enter menu functions, and an "OK" key to confirm selections.
  • Tester Startup: The analyzer automatically starts up once the clamps are correctly connected, displaying a startup interface with a voltmeter. The DC voltmeter test range is 1.80-16.00V.
  • Menu Functions: The main menu allows users to set parameters, view parameters, review results, export data, and access utilities.
  • Parameter Settings: Users can set a reference value (in Siemens), ambient temperature (default 25°C/77°F), warning/fail percentages for jars (default 70% warn, 60% fail), and a low voltage reminder (default 12.60V). These settings are critical for tailoring the analysis to specific battery types and operational environments.
  • Data Storage and Export: The CTE-4000 can store up to 1000 groups of test results. These results can be exported to a computer via a USB cable and saved as an Excel file for further analysis and record-keeping. The manual provides a link to download the necessary software for data export.
  • Utilities: The utilities menu includes options for language selection, time adjustment, and data deletion (either the last set of data or all stored data).

Usage Features

The CTE-4000 is designed for ease of use with clear instructions for connecting the tester and navigating its functions.

  • Connection: Users are instructed to shake the clamps back and forth to ensure a secure connection to the battery poles. The device has reverse connection protection, meaning it will not light up if connected incorrectly, but it will not damage the tester or the automotive load. If the screen prompts "Check Connection," users should clean the poles and reconnect.
  • Reference Values: The manual emphasizes the importance of establishing reference values. This can be done by consulting company documentation, testing a sample of batteries (at least 30 from the same manufacturer, model, power rating, age, and service history), using the highest conductance value from a group, or using the average conductance value from a group if a sample cannot be tested.
  • Battery Condition Interpretation: The manual provides a table to interpret test results based on percentages of the reference value:
    • >80% (Good): Check the battery for physical damage.
    • 60-80% (Serviceable with maintenance): Investigate causes of low readings, refer to company maintenance procedures, and consult IEEE standard 1188-1996 for VRLA jars.
    • <60% (Unserviceable): Replace the jars, referring to company replacement procedures or IEEE standard 1188-1996.
  • Alerts: The device displays "?" next to voltage or conductance readings if they fall below the set low voltage alarm value or the set alarm proportional value for conductivity, indicating a need for timely maintenance.
  • Time Adjustment: The time and date can be adjusted through the "TIME ADJUSTMENT" utility, allowing users to accurately timestamp their test results.

Maintenance Features

While the manual primarily focuses on operational aspects, it implicitly guides maintenance through its data analysis capabilities. By tracking conductance and voltage over time, users can proactively identify batteries needing maintenance or replacement before they fail. The ability to export and analyze data helps in establishing a comprehensive battery maintenance program.

Warranty and Customer Service

Lancol provides a one-year warranty from the date of delivery, covering defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover damage due to abuse, unauthorized modification, or failure to follow instructions. For any operational issues, customers can contact Lancol's customer service center via phone or email. The manual also provides the company's address in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, China, and its website for further information. Lancol reserves the right to change product designs and specifications without prior notice.
