Overview

The Golight® RadioRay® is a portable searchlight designed for either permanent or temporary attachment to a vehicle, offering advanced lighting capabilities for various applications. This device is controlled by a wireless remote, providing exceptional directional flexibility with a full 370° horizontal rotation and a 135° vertical tilt, all managed with fingertip control. The RadioRay® utilizes superior light penetration technology, available in either a halogen configuration with Cr5 PentaBeam™ technology or an LED configuration with state-of-the-art P-Vex™ lens technology.

The RadioRay® searchlight system includes the searchlight unit itself, a remote control, two A23 12V batteries, and a permanent/magnetic mounting shoe. The mounting shoe features a spring lock mechanism for easy release and removal of the light. A permanent mounting gasket and a rockguard (not applicable for LED units) are also included.

Function Description

The primary function of the Golight® RadioRay® is to provide powerful, remote-controlled illumination for off-road and utility use. It is not designed for road use as a driving light. The device operates as a radio transmitter and receiver at 433MHz, with an internally mounted antenna sending and receiving radio frequency (RF) energy when the light is on. The remote control allows users to adjust the light's direction and rotation speed.

The remote control is programmable, offering 2187 different channels. This feature allows users to change the channel selection, and the receiver can relearn the new selection, enhancing flexibility and preventing interference. The light is pre-programmed at the factory, but re-programming the transmitter is recommended for optimal performance.

Usage Features

The RadioRay® offers versatile mounting options:

  • Temporary (Suction Mount): For temporary mounting, ensure the surface is clean and dry. Remove the light from its permanent mount shoe by depressing the spring-loaded lock and sliding it out. Place the suction base on the clean, dry surface and move the side lever into the locked position. It is important to frequently check the suction cup to ensure strength, as temperature variations, rough terrain, grease, and dirt can affect its hold. Suction mounting is not recommended for road use. The magnetic mount version should be removed from the vehicle's exterior when traveling at excessive speeds or in strong wind conditions.
  • Permanent Mount: For permanent installation, place the gasket and shoe on a clean, dry surface in the desired location. Attach the shoe to the vehicle using 3/16" screws. Then, slip the RadioRay® into the shoe, verifying that the spring lock secures it. An optional magnetic mounting shoe is also available.
  • Magnetic Mount: Select the best flat and clean metal area on your vehicle for a strong bond. Route the power cord into the vehicle through a door frame and connect it to a 12V power outlet.

To operate the Golight® RadioRay®:

  1. Place the RadioRay® into its mounting shoe or attach it to the outside of your vehicle according to the mounting instructions.
  2. Plug the RadioRay® into your vehicle's cigarette lighter outlet or a 12 Volt direct battery hookup.
  3. Turn on the light using the remote control's on/off button.
  4. Use the 4-way arrows on the remote control to rotate the light to the desired location. The wireless remote can be used up to 80 feet from the RadioRay®, depending on conditions.
  5. The speed of the light's rotation can be controlled by depressing the tortoise/hare button once to slow it down, and depressing it again to restore the original speed.
  6. When not in use, unplug and remove the light from the vehicle. Store the light and remote control in an optional carrying case to extend its life.
  7. The spotlight should not be turned on when the snap-on lens cover (rockguard) is attached (not applicable for LED units).

Battery Installation and Disposal

To install or replace batteries in the remote control:

  1. Remove the Phillips head screw securing the battery cover, then remove the cover.
  2. Insert two A23 12V batteries according to the correct polarity. Ensure the batteries have adequate charge.
  3. Replace the battery cover.
  4. For programming the transmitter, after inserting batteries, depress and hold the on/off button until the red LED lights up. While holding the button, reinstall the power (plug in the cigarette lighter plug). Keep the on/off button depressed for 5-6 seconds, then release. The light should now be programmed.
  5. To remove batteries, grip the positive end of each battery and lift.
  6. For proper disposal/recycling of batteries, contact Golight. Only 12V-A23 batteries should be used in the remote control.

Maintenance Features

To ensure safe and efficient operation of your Golight® RadioRay®, observe these guidelines:

  • Remote Control Care: The remote must be kept clean and dry to avoid damage to its internal circuitry.
  • Icing Conditions: Using your RadioRay® in icing conditions could damage the gear motors.
  • RF Interference: Your Golight® RadioRay® is a radio transmitter and receiver operating at 433MHz. While modern electronic equipment (e.g., pacemakers, hearing aids) are typically shielded from RF energy, RF energy may affect some electronic equipment. Vehicle electronic systems may also be affected. Check with your vehicle manufacturer to ensure the RadioRay® will not affect your vehicle's electronic system.
  • Disassembly and Repair: This light may only be disassembled and repaired by an authorized representative. Any unauthorized dismantling or inverted mounting is considered misuse and may void the warranty.
  • Warranty: Golight, Inc. warrants the RadioRay® against defects due to workmanship or faulty materials (excluding halogen lamps) for three years from the original purchase date. This warranty does not cover damage from unreasonable use, misuse, unreasonable maintenance, loss, or labor costs. Mounting the light upside down will void the warranty. Warranty information must be filled out within 30 days of purchase online for protection. Consequential damages to person or property are excluded from this warranty.
  • End of Useful Life: For information regarding the proper disposal/recycling of the light, contact Golight.
