Tools: To rig your Zuma the fi rst
time, you will need the following:
White electrical tape
2 adjustable wrenches and/
or pliers
Unpack the major parts listed below and lay them out on a soft piece of
ground free of sharp objects. To avoid damaging contents, do not cut
into packaging.
a. Hull
b. Mast kit which includes:
Top section
Bottom section (larger diameter)
Boom (with blocks attached)
c. Boat kit which includes:
Sail in bag
Tiller
Tiller extension
Batten set
Daggerboard
Rudder assembly
Line bag (all lines are labeled)
d. Block package which includes:
Mainsheet block
Double traveler block
Vang block with v-cleat
Small vang block with becket
Shackle
Not e: All lines are as long as necessary for maximum purchase. Vanguard Sailboats
encourages you to customize line lengths for your sailing pleasure, but be sure to cut and
burn ends to prevent fraying.

Assembly Instructions

Vang System Rigging

The vang system consists of two blocks and a line. Tie one end of the vang line to the becket.

Traveler Line Rigging

Rig the traveler line and double traveler block, tying to the stern padeye on each side.

Mainsheet Rigging

Attach mainsheet block to hiking strap eyestrap and thread mainsheet through boom blocks.

Rudder Assembly

Attach rudder to tiller with bolt/washers. Secure tiller extension cover.

Mast Assembly and Stepping

Assemble mast sections, clean step, rig halyard, and step mast vertically.

Sail Assembly

Insert battens, stack sail, attach halyard, zip sleeve, and raise sail.

Boom Attachment

Insert gooseneck pin into boom and walk aft.

Vang Attachment

Attach vang block with cleat to mast and shackle to boom.

Outhaul Rigging

Tie outhaul to boom fairlead, thread through sail clew, and secure to cleat.

Clew Tiedown

Wrap and secure clew tiedown line around boom and sail clew.

Cunningham Rigging

Rig Cunningham line through sail grommet and secure to gooseneck.

Launching and Operation

Before Launching

Lock the rudder, attach it to the boat, and slide the daggerboard into the trunk.

Unrigging Procedures

Procedures for pulling up daggerboard, removing rudder, and preparing for storage or transport.
