Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the LawnMaster 34cm 1400W Electric Mower, model MEB1434M. It provides comprehensive information on the assembly, operation, maintenance, and safety of the electric lawnmower, intended for domestic and hobby garden use.

The LawnMaster electric lawnmower is designed for cutting lawns in domestic and hobby gardens. It is not intended for commercial trade use or for mowing in wet weather conditions or unusually high grass. The machine is equipped with a 1400W electric motor and a 34cm cutting width. It features a cutting height adjustment lever, allowing for 6 different cutting heights between 20mm and 70mm, which can be selected based on grass type and condition. For the first cut of each season, a higher cutting setting is recommended. The mower also includes a grass collection bag with a 30L capacity and a full indicator flap that remains open when the bag is empty or partially full and closes when the bag is full and needs emptying. A rear roller is integrated to leave a striped finish on the lawn and help prevent scalping on borders and edges.

For operation, the mower requires connection to a 220-240V~50Hz AC power supply. It is crucial to use an extension cord with adequate capacity to prevent voltage drop, overheating, and loss of power, especially when operating at a considerable distance from the power source. The power cord should be kept clear of the working area and positioned to avoid obstructions. To start the mower, the safety button must be pressed and held while pulling the switch lever towards the handle. Releasing the safety button after starting is acceptable, but the switch lever must be held against the handle during mowing. Releasing the switch lever will stop the mower. A high-pitched noise and sparking may occur as the electric motor decelerates, which is considered normal. The blade continues to rotate for a few seconds after the mower is switched off, so it's important to keep hands and feet away from the rotating blade.

When mowing, it is advised to work away from the plug socket and avoid twisting the power cord. A normal walking pace should be maintained, overlapping tracks by a few centimeters for a consistent cut. The lawn should be cleared of stones, sticks, wires, and other objects that could damage the blades or motor, as these could be thrown by the machine, causing injury. For thick grass, reducing walking speed allows for a more effective cut and proper discharge of clippings. It is recommended not to cut more than one-third of the total grass length for a healthy lawn. If grass is approximately 6cm long, it should not be cut shorter than 4cm. Taller grass should be cut gradually to avoid damaging the grass or overloading the motor. Wet grass should not be cut as it tends to stick to the mower's underbody, hindering proper clipping discharge. Mowing on slopes requires extreme caution; it should be done across the face of slopes, not up and down, and slopes steeper than 15 degrees should be avoided. Users should always ensure firm footing and be aware of holes, ruts, rocks, hidden objects, or bumps that could cause slips or trips. If balance is lost, the switch lever should be released immediately.

Maintenance of the LawnMaster mower includes keeping all safety devices, air vents, and the motor housing free of dirt and dust. Plastic parts should be cleaned with dry cloths, avoiding solvents that can cause damage. Regular checks of nuts and bolts for tightness are essential for safe operation. Accumulated grass and leaves around the motor cover should be removed, and the mower should be wiped clean with a dry cloth. Water should not be used for cleaning to prevent damage to electrical components.

Blade replacement is a key maintenance task. Before attempting this, the equipment must be switched off, the plug disconnected from the power supply, and the blade allowed to come to a complete stop. Protective, heavy gloves should always be worn, or the cutting edges of the blade should be wrapped with rags. The mower should be turned on its side, and the blade held firmly. The blade screw is turned anticlockwise off the motor spindle using a suitable wrench and removed along with the blade. A new blade of the same type is then reattached onto the spindle, ensuring the blade's wings are angled upwards towards the mower deck. The blade must be positioned correctly, and the screw tightened firmly, with a torque wrench used to tighten the blade nuts to 20Nm maximum.

For storage, the mower features space-saving options. Before storing, the product must be disconnected from the power supply. The upper and lower wing knobs on both sides of the handle bars can be released, allowing the upper and lower handle assembly to be folded over the device housing, ensuring cables are not trapped. The cable can be wrapped around the wing knobs for organized storage. The equipment should be stored in a cool, dry location, out of reach of children. The motor should be allowed to cool before storing the equipment in a confined space, and the equipment should not be covered to prevent moisture buildup.

The manual also emphasizes several safety precautions. Users should read all safety instructions carefully and understand them completely before operating the product. The machine should not be used by children or individuals unfamiliar with the instructions. Bystanders and pets should be kept at a safe distance. Appropriate personal protective equipment, such as substantial footwear, long trousers, eye, and ear protection, should be worn. The machine should not be operated barefoot or with open-toed sandals. Clothing that is loose-fitting or has hanging cords or ties should be avoided. Before each use, the blade, blade bolt, and blade assembly should be visually inspected for wear or damage, and any worn or damaged components should be replaced in sets to maintain balance. The power supply and extension cord should also be checked for damage or aging. If the cord becomes damaged during use, it must be disconnected immediately, and the cord should not be touched before disconnection. The machine should only be operated in daylight or good artificial light and should be avoided in wet grass. The machine should never be operated with defective guards or shields, or without safety devices like deflectors and/or the grass collector in place. Hands and feet should be kept away from rotating parts and the discharge opening. The machine should not be transported while the power source is running. If the machine starts to vibrate abnormally, it should be stopped immediately, inspected for damage, and any damaged or loose parts repaired or tightened. Only genuine replacement parts and accessories supplied and recommended by the manufacturer should be used. The machine should be supplied via a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30 mA. The mains voltage must match the specifications on the rating plate. Only authorized power cables of type H05VV-F, no more than 75m long and suitable for outdoor use, with a cross-section of at least 2.5mm², should be used, and cable drums should be completely unrolled before use. The power cable should be kept away from the cutting tool and run behind the operator to prevent accidental cutting and electric shock. The power cable should not be used to pull the plug from the socket and should be protected from heat, oil, and sharp edges. The equipment should be switched off and the plug disconnected if the power cable is damaged, and a damaged power cable must be replaced by the manufacturer, customer services, or a qualified person. The equipment should not be overloaded and should only be used for its designed purpose. It should not be used if damaged, incomplete, or modified without authorization. The equipment should not be lifted or carried when the motor is running due to the risk of cuts. It should not be used near inflammable liquids or gases to avoid fire or explosion. The grass ejection hole should always be kept clean and clear, and cut material should only be removed when the equipment is stopped and disconnected from the power supply. The equipment should not be left unattended in the workplace.
