The WINDCUBE® v2 Offshore 8.66 is a sophisticated LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) system designed for precise wind profile measurement in offshore environments. It is a class 1M Laser product, emitting an infrared laser beam that is not visible to the naked eye. The system is intended for outdoor use and wind measurement purposes only.
Function Description:
The WINDCUBE® v2 Offshore 8.66 operates by sending infrared laser pulses into the atmosphere. These pulses are emitted successively in four cardinal directions along a 28° scanning cone angle, followed by a fifth, vertical beam. Aerosol particles in the air (dust, water droplets, etc.) backscatter the laser pulses as they move with the wind. The system collects this backscattered light and calculates wind speed and direction using the Doppler-induced laser wavelength shift. It can simultaneously measure wind speed at up to 12 different heights, with range gates from 40m to 200m.
To ensure accurate measurements in dynamic offshore environments, the WINDCUBE® v2 Offshore 8.66 incorporates an inertial sensor. This sensor, coupled with built-in software featuring advanced filtering capabilities, accounts for pitch, roll, and yaw movements of the floating buoy or platform where it's installed. This compensation mechanism allows for high-quality wind measurement, even in sea states, providing accurate real-time and statistical data crucial for turbulence intensity measurement, site assessment, and power curve measurement.
The system is designed for harsh conditions, featuring a watertight casing structure that is immune to corrosion, surface-treated components, and corrosion-resistant connectors. Real-time and statistical wind data are stored on the WINDCUBE® v2 Offshore 8.66's solid-state hard disk drive. Users can download accumulated data files via the Windweb, a graphical user interface accessible through any web browser, which also allows for measurement configuration and real-time monitoring.

Usage Features:
- Deployment: The system should be installed on a floating structure (at least 3m above/below the water line) validated by the WINDCUBE LIDAR supplier. A voltage converter conforming to specifications is required for power supply on the floating platform.
- Connectivity:
- Direct Connection: Connect to a laptop via an Ethernet cable (straight or crossed) to the system connector number 1 in the trapdoor. Access the Windweb interface via a web browser at
http://192.168.0.1/windweb/ or http://windcube/windweb.
- Wireless Connection (Optional): Connects to a network via 3G/GPRS or satellite antenna. Two SMA plugs are connected in the trap. The Windweb interface is accessible via
http://windcubeanywhere.leosphere.com/windweb/ with provided login credentials.
- Satellite Connection (On-demand): To avoid extra charges, the system is normally disconnected. Connection is initiated by clicking the open paper clip icon on the Windweb, which can take several minutes due to communication steps between the WINDCUBE® v2 Offshore 8.66, satellite modem server, and the internet.
- Data Transfer: Data files can be downloaded via FTP client (e.g., FileZilla) connected to the system's Ethernet port. The host is
192.168.0.1, port 22. Data files are compressed with a .7z extension and can be unzipped with 7-zip.
- Measurement Configuration: Configure parameters like client ID, comments, site location, and altitude measurements (up to 12 heights, 40m to 200m range) via the Windweb interface.
- Monitoring: The Windweb interface provides real-time measurement visualization, visual indicators for system status (Temperature, Laser, Scanner, Data Availability, Compass, GPS Communication, Wiper standby, Power Pack), and alarms.
- Safety:
- General Safety: Review the manual thoroughly before operation. Unplug the main power supply (90~264 Vac plug) in emergencies (fire, water flood risk).
- Laser Safety: Class 1M Laser product. The laser beam is infrared and not visible. Do not stare directly into the beam with optical instruments. The beam is emitted at a 28° angle off vertical from the top aperture. The internal LASER is Class 4; do not open the optical head or disconnect optical fibers to avoid eye injury.
Maintenance Features:
- Wiper Liquid Tank Refilling: Regularly check and refill the wiper liquid tank with a mixture of water and isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) according to ambient temperature guidelines:
-
10°C: 30% isopropanol.
-
-10°C and ≤0°C: 15% isopropanol.
- ≤0°C: 0% isopropanol.
- Hard water may affect measurements; use soft water. Anti-freeze fluid not specifically approved should not be used.
- Wiper Blade Change: If needed, lift the wiper arm, remove the old blade, clip back the new blade, and replace the arm.
- Fuse Changes: General supply fuses are located above the connectors in black plastic protectors inside the front door. Carefully open the front door and replace fuses with the specified type (ATO® fuse, 4A, 32V, 14 A²s nominal melting I²t).
