Do you have a question about the LEViN ARTICA 250 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the ARTICA, ALPINA, and CORTINA series of chest freezers with sliding curved glass tops, manufactured by KMZ LLC. These units are designed for the demonstration, storage, and sale of pre-frozen or refrigerated food products.

Function Description

The chest freezers are primarily intended for commercial use in retail environments to display and preserve food items. They are available in three main configurations:

  • Low-temperature mode (NT): For pre-frozen food products, maintaining temperatures between -18°C and -24°C.
  • Medium-temperature mode (ST): For pre-cooled food products, maintaining temperatures between -2°C and +6°C.
  • Dual-mode (NT/ST): Universal units that can switch between low-temperature and medium-temperature modes.

Most ARTICA, ALPINA, and CORTINA models are equipped with an automatic hot gas defrost system, an unattended active condenser, and modern LED backlighting to reduce power consumption. Cooling is provided by a built-in refrigeration unit. Some models, specifically those marked with (MD), do not feature an automatic defrost system and require manual defrosting.

Optionally, ARTICA and ALPINA models can be fitted with superstructures featuring two rows of shelves for displaying and selling non-refrigerated food products. The permissible load for these shelves is not more than 100 kg per shelf.

Important Technical Specifications

The equipment complies with various regulatory documents, including TR TC 010/2001, TR TC 004/2011, TR TC 020/2011, and GOST 32560.2 (ISO 23953-2).

Refrigerant:

  • The refrigeration circuit can be filled with R404a or R290.
  • R404a: A mixture of 44% R125, 4% R134a, and 52% R143a, with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 3784.
  • R290 (propane): Classified as Group A3 (combustible and explosive) according to DIN EN 378-1, with a GWP of 3. Special precautions are required when handling R290 due to its flammability.

Noise Level:

  • The noise level emitted by the equipment at a distance of 1 meter does not exceed 70 dB(A).

Electrical Power Supply:

  • Nominal voltage/frequency/number of phases: 230/50/1 V/Hz/n.
  • Degree of protection of electrical equipment (according to GOST 14254): IP 20.

Control System:

  • The units are managed by an electronic controller, which allows for monitoring and adjusting the operating temperature. The display for the electronic controller is located in the lower right part of the front panel.

Usage Features

Installation:

  • Equipment must be installed in a horizontal position and aligned.
  • A minimum free space of 80 mm around the perimeter of the unit is required for standalone installations.
  • Do not install near heat sources (e.g., heating devices) or in direct sunlight.
  • For "island" installations, decorative limiters (optional) are recommended to ensure proper clearance between units.
  • The equipment should only be operated with standard sliding glass covers.
  • Before first use, the equipment must be kept in a room at a temperature no lower than +16°C for 2-3 hours.
  • The equipment must be connected to an electrical outlet with grounding. Deviations in mains voltage should not exceed ±10%.
  • Some models may have two connection cables: one for the chest freezer and one for lighting.

Commissioning:

  • Commissioning is formalized by an "Act of Commissioning."
  • The unit is switched on using a switch located in the lower right part of the equipment, near the electronic controller display.
  • After reaching the desired operating temperature (1-2 hours after switching on), pre-frozen or chilled products can be loaded up to the established loading line.
  • WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! Do not place foreign objects on the glass covers, use them for support, or stand on them, as they may break and cause injury.

Temperature Control:

  • Operating temperature can be monitored via the electronic controller display or an optional liquid crystal thermometer.
  • The electronic controller manages the operating temperature and keeps it within specified limits.
  • Temperature settings can be adjusted via the controller's front panel buttons, as detailed in the User's Manual for the specific controller (Danfoss or Carel).

Maintenance Features

Cleaning and Defrosting:

  • Regular Cleaning: Internal surfaces must be cleaned at least once a month to remove pathogens. External surfaces should also be cleaned periodically.
  • Defrosting (Automatic): Most ARTICA, ALPINA, and CORTINA models have an automatic hot gas defrost system controlled by the electronic controller. The factory setting is one defrost cycle every 3 days, lasting no more than 30 minutes. Condensate drains into a collection tray and evaporates; excessive condensate must be drained manually.
  • Defrosting (Manual for MD models): Units marked with (MD) do not have automatic defrost and require regular manual defrosting.
    • Procedure:
      1. Remove all products.
      2. Disconnect from power.
      3. Remove glass covers and wire products from the cooled volume.
      4. Wipe dry and clean the interior.
      5. Reinstall wire products and glass covers.
      6. Reconnect power and allow to reach desired temperature before reloading products.
  • WARNING! RISK OF FIRE! When defrosting or cleaning equipment using R290 refrigerant, do not use sharp objects to remove ice (can damage the refrigerant circuit), do not use electrical appliances to speed up defrosting, and do not use steam cleaners or high-pressure water (can damage wiring and components, leading to refrigerant leakage and fire risk).
  • ATTENTION! Use protective gloves when cleaning the internal volume to prevent cuts from sharp edges.
  • ATTENTION! Do not use chlorine-containing products, acids, abrasives, or solvents for cleaning, as these can damage the equipment's appearance and integrity.
  • ATTENTION! Glass covers should be cleaned with a conventional glass cleaner.

Service and Repair:

  • Service and repair work must only be carried out by certified service centers and qualified personnel trained in handling flammable refrigerants (for R290 units).
  • Planned maintenance is recommended monthly.
  • Before any maintenance, ensure the equipment is disconnected from the electrical power supply.
  • Periodically clean the air condenser from dust to ensure correct operation and prevent failures.
  • If refilling with R404a refrigerant, do not exceed the capacity specified on the nameplate.
  • In case of operational interruption, immediately call a service representative, turn off lighting, and do not open the glass covers.

Decommissioning and Disposal:

  • For long-term decommissioning, remove all goods, disconnect from power, open glass covers (leaving a 2-3 cm gap after cleaning for ventilation), and clean thoroughly.
  • ATTENTION! Do not expose decommissioned equipment with closed glass covers to direct sunlight, as this can cause high internal temperatures and damage.
  • Disposal: Dispose of the equipment properly according to applicable regulations. The equipment contains polyurethane foam and refrigerant, which must be disposed of correctly. Ensure the piping of the unit compartment is not damaged during disposal.

Warranty:

  • The warranty period is 24 months from the date of commissioning, but not more than 30 months from the date of manufacture.
  • The warranty does not cover glass parts or damage due to mechanical impact.
  • The manufacturer is not responsible for malfunctions resulting from non-compliance with the manual, repairs by unauthorized personnel, or other causes not attributable to the manufacturer.
  • The service life of the product is at least 7 years.
