Usage Features
The dishwasher offers a user-friendly control panel with various cycles and options:
- Wash Cycles:
- Auto: Senses soil amount and toughness for optimized cleaning.
- Normal: For daily, regular, or normally soiled loads.
- Heavy: For heavily soiled dishes with hardened-on soil, using the strongest spray intensity.
- Delicate: For fine china and stemware.
- 1 Hour: For lightly soiled dishes, includes heated drying.
- Download Cycle: Specialized cycles downloadable via LG ThinQ app (default is Machine Clean).
- Machine Clean (P1): For cleaning the dishwasher interior, eliminating residual soils, odor, and white spots.
- Express (P2): For quickly cleaning lightly soiled dishes.
- Rinse (P3): Quick rinse for dishes not immediately washed, helps soften dried-on residue and prevent odors. No detergent used, no drying.
- Pots & Pans (P4): Cleans heavily soiled cookware.
- Casseroles (P5): Cleans greasy and heavily soiled dishes.
- Glassware (P6): Safely washes delicate glassware.
- Night Care (P7): Quietly washes dishes overnight.
- Options and Extra Functions:
- Flexible Zone: Adjusts wash intensity to target specific zones (upper rack, lower rack, or both with varying intensity).
- High Temp.: Raises main wash temperature for improved cleaning and sanitization. The Sanitized LED illuminates if dishes are properly sanitized.
- Night Dry: Runs the ventilation fan periodically after a cycle to vent steam and reduce wetness on dishes left overnight.
- Delay Start: Delays cycle start from 1 to 12 hours in one-hour increments.
- Remote Start: Allows remote control and monitoring via the LG ThinQ smartphone application.
- Dry Boost: Adds heated drying time for better drying performance (Low, High, Off settings).
- Loading:
- Silverware Basket: Features separators to prevent nesting and tarnishing. Sharp items should be loaded pointing down.
- Lower Rack: Designed for heavily soiled dishes, plates, and bowls. Tines can be folded down for larger items.
- Upper Rack: For lightly soiled dishes, cups, and small plates. Adjustable height to accommodate larger items. Tines can be folded down.
- Cutlery Rack: Best suited for flatware, with separators to prevent damage and improve cleaning. Bowls should not be placed in the center to avoid leakage.
- Cleaning Products:
- Detergent Dispenser: Amount depends on cycle, load size, and soil level.
- Rinse Aid Dispenser: Recommended for preventing water spots and enhancing drying. Has five adjustable levels (LO to L4), factory default is 2.
- Smart Functions (LG ThinQ Application):
- Feature Update: Updates product features via the app.
- Monitoring: Checks current status, cycle, options, running time, and cycle end time.
- Download Cycle: Downloads new, specialized cycles to the appliance.
- Machine Clean Coach: Tracks cycles remaining before a Machine Clean cycle is recommended.
- Smart Diagnosis: Provides useful information for diagnosing and solving issues.
- Settings: Adjusts Rinse Aid Dispenser Level, Machine Clean Reminder, Signal Level, and Clean Indicator Light.
- Push Alerts: Receives appliance status notifications.
- Energy Monitoring: Checks estimated power usage.
- Control Panel: Top-control models feature 3 indicator LEDs (SignaLight™) for normal operation (white steady), paused cycle (white blinking), and cycle finished (green). A digital display shows estimated cycle time, delay time, or remaining operating time.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity.
- Cleaning the Exterior: Use a soft, damp cloth or sponge with mild soap for general cleaning. Stainless steel surfaces can be polished with a stainless steel cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners, alcohol, thinners, bleach, benzene, or flammable liquids, as these can discolor or damage the appliance.
- Cleaning the Interior: Periodically clean with a soft, damp cloth. To remove white spots and odor, run an empty cycle with white vinegar in a dishwasher-safe glass on the upper rack.
- Machine Clean Cycle: Run the Machine Clean (Download Cycle: P1) cycle once a month or every 30 cycles to eliminate residual soil, odor, and white spots. Use citric acid or a dishwasher cleaning agent, not dishwasher detergent.
- Clogged Drain Air Gap or In-Sink Disposal: Check and clean if the dishwasher is not draining well. Remove the air gap cover and plastic cap, then clear debris with a toothpick or brush.
- Cleaning the Filters: Clean the filters after each load for best wash performance. In hard water areas, clean monthly with a soft brush and warm running water. Be cautious of sharp edges.
- Filter Cleaning Schedule: Varies based on loads per week and pre-treatment (scraping or rinsing). For example, if only scraping dishes, clean 4 times a year for 1-3 loads/week, or every 1.5 months for 8-12 loads/week. If not scraping or rinsing, clean once a month for 1-3 loads/week, or every week for 8-12 loads/week.
- Cleaning the Spray Arms: Clean every two weeks to prevent food residue from blocking water jet holes. Remove debris with a pin or stiff wire. For the upper spray arm, remove by turning the nut 1/8 turn counter-clockwise.
- Cleaning the Heat Dry Blower: Periodically remove food residue from the gap below the cover (every 4 months). Wait for the blower to cool, wear gloves, and avoid water or detergents inside the tube.
- Seasonal Maintenance and Storage:
- Warmer Months (extended absence): Close water valve, disconnect power, clean filter, tub, and dispenser to prevent odor.
- Colder Months (freezing temperatures possible): Winterize water supply lines and dishwasher by qualified service personnel.
- Rinse Aid Refill: The Rinse Aid Refill LED indicates when more rinse aid is needed. The frequency of refilling depends on usage and the rinse aid setting.
