This document is an owner's manual for an LG Microwave Oven, model MH604***. It provides instructions for safe operation, installation, cooking, and maintenance.
Function Description
This LG microwave oven is designed for cooking, reheating, and defrosting food using microwave energy. It offers various cooking modes including Micro Power Cooking, Two Stage Cooking, Quick Start, Grill Cooking, and Combination Cooking. Additionally, it features several pre-programmed menus such as Continental Menu (Couscous, Jollof Rice, Fufu, Potato Gratin, Chicken Tagine), Arabian Menu (Grape Leaf, Saffron Rice, Kabsa, Kafta, Kebab), European Menu (Spaghetti Bolognese, Spaghetti Carbonara, Stuffed Tomato, Apple Pie, Lasagna), and Oriental Menu (Curry Chicken, Dolma, Veg. Biryani, Chicken Tikka, Flapjack (Koutaba)). The oven also includes Auto Defrost and Quick Defrost functions for various food types.
Important Technical Specifications
The microwave oven operates on a Power Input of 230V AC / 50 Hz. Its Output for microwave cooking is 700 W (IEC60705 rating standard). The Microwave Frequency is 2450 MHz. The Outside Dimension of the oven is 455 mm (W) x 260 mm (H) x 330 mm (D). Power consumption varies by mode: Microwave (1000 Watts), Grill (600 Watts), and Combination (1150 Watts). The oven is equipped with a turntable or tray located at the bottom, a magnetron tube for generating microwave energy, and safety interlocks to prevent operation when the door is open.
Usage Features
The oven is designed for ease of use with a clear display and intuitive controls.
- Unpacking & Installing: The oven should be placed on a flat, stable surface at least 30cm of space on top and 10cm at the rear for proper ventilation. The front of the oven should be at least 8cm from the edge of the surface to prevent tipping. An exhaust outlet is located on top or side of the oven, and blocking it can damage the oven. It must be plugged into a standard household socket.
- Setting the Clock: The clock can be set for either 12-hour or 24-hour format. To set, press STOP/CLEAR, then CLOCK, and use the "Less" or "More" buttons to adjust the time.
- Child Lock: This feature prevents accidental running of the oven. To activate, press and hold STOP/CLEAR until "L" appears on the display and BEEP sounds. To cancel, press and hold STOP/CLEAR until "L" disappears and BEEP sounds.
- Micro Power Cooking: The oven offers five power levels: HIGH (100%, 700W), MEDIUM HIGH (80%, 560W), MEDIUM (60%, 420W), MEDIUM LOW (40%, 280W), and LOW (20%, 140W). To use, press STOP/CLEAR, then MICRO (repeatedly to select power level), enter cooking time, and press START.
- Two Stage Cooking: This allows for cooking at two different power levels and times. For example, the first stage could be HIGH power for 10 minutes, and the second stage MEDIUM LOW power for 35 minutes.
- Quick Start: This feature allows for quick cooking in 30-second intervals at HIGH power. Press START repeatedly to add cooking time, up to 10 minutes.
- Grill Cooking: This function is for browning and crisping food. Place food on the grill rack. Press STOP/CLEAR, then GRILL, enter cooking time, and press START.
- Combination Cooking: This mode combines microwave and grill cooking. The manual provides an example for 25 minutes using combi mode co-3. The oven has three combination modes: Co-1 (25% Micro, 75% Heater), Co-2 (45% Micro, 55% Heater), and Co-3 (65% Micro, 35% Heater).
- Continental, Arabian, European, Oriental Menus: These are pre-programmed settings for specific dishes. To use, press STOP/CLEAR, then the respective menu button (e.g., Continental Menu), select the food category and weight (using MORE/LESS buttons), and press START. The manual provides detailed instructions and ingredients for each dish.
- Auto Defrost (MEAT, POULTRY, FISH, BREAD): This feature automatically defrosts food based on its weight. Press AUTO DEFROST, select the food category, enter the weight, and press START.
- Quick Defrost (MEAT): This function quickly thaws 0.5kg of minced meat. Press STOP/CLEAR, then QUICK DEFROST. The oven will start automatically. During defrosting, the oven will "BEEP" to prompt turning the food over and separating thawed portions.
Maintenance Features
Regular cleaning and proper care are essential for the safe and efficient operation of the microwave oven.
- Cleaning the Oven: The oven should be cleaned regularly. For the inside, use a soft cloth and mild soap to wipe spills and splatters. For the outside, use a damp cloth. Do not use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners.
- Safety Precautions:
- Do not operate the oven with the door open or if the door seals are damaged.
- Do not tamper with safety interlocks.
- Do not place any object between the oven front face and the door.
- Do not operate if the oven is damaged (e.g., bent door, broken latches, loose seals).
- Do not use the oven for the purpose of dehumidification.
- Do not cook food wrapped in paper towels unless your cook book contains instructions.
- Do not use wooden containers.
- Do not use metallic ties or wraps when defrosting.
- Always ensure proper ventilation.
- Do not deep fat fry in your oven.
- Remove plastic wrapping from food before cooking or defrosting.
- If smoke is observed, switch off or unplug the appliance and keep the door closed.
- Do not use the oven for any purpose other than cooking food.
- Do not use utensils that are unsuitable for microwave ovens (e.g., metal).
- Ensure the food is placed in microwave-safe containers.
- Do not use recycled paper products.
- Do not rinse the turntable by placing it in water just after cooking.
- Small amounts of food require shorter cooking or heating time.
- The oven door should be 8 cm or more behind the edge of the surface on which it is placed.
- Liquids and other foods must not be heated in sealed containers.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers to clean the oven glass.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.
- Accessible parts may become hot during use. Young children should be kept away.
- Energy Saving: The ECO ON feature helps save energy. It automatically turns off the display after 5 minutes with the door open or closed. To activate, press STOP/CLEAR (ECO ON).
- Plug Wiring Information: The wires in the mains lead are colored according to standard codes: BLUE ~ Neutral, BROWN ~ Live, GREEN & YELLOW ~ Earth. The appliance must be earthed. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent.
