Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the LG Microwave Oven models MS-1944W and MS-1944WS. It provides instructions for safe operation, cooking, and maintenance of the appliance.

Function Description

The LG Microwave Oven is designed for heating and cooking food using microwave energy. It features a magnetron tube that converts electricity into microwave energy, which then enters the cooking area. A turntable at the bottom of the oven ensures even cooking. The oven is equipped with safety interlocks that automatically switch off cooking activity when the door is opened, preventing exposure to microwave energy.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Input: 230 V AC / 50 Hz
  • Output: 700 W (IEC60705 rating standard)
  • Microwave Frequency: 2450 MHz
  • Outside Dimension: 455 mm (W) x 252 mm (H) x 320 mm (D)
  • Power Consumption: 1000 Watts
  • Power Levels: The oven offers 5 microwave power settings:
    • HIGH (100%, 700W) for boiling water, browning minced beef, cooking poultry pieces, fish, vegetables, and tender cuts of meat.
    • MEDIUM HIGH (80%, 560W) for all reheating, roasting meat and poultry, cooking mushrooms and shellfish, and foods containing cheese and eggs.
    • MEDIUM (60%, 420W) for baking cakes and scones, preparing eggs, cooking custard, and preparing rice/soup.
    • DEFROST/MEDIUM LOW (40%, 280W) for all thawing, melting butter and chocolate, and cooking less tender cuts of meat.
    • LOW (20%, 140W) for softening butter & cheese, softening ice cream, and raising yeast dough.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The oven should be placed on a flat, level surface with at least 30cm of space on top and 10cm at the rear for proper ventilation. The front should be at least 8cm from the edge of the surface to prevent tipping. An exhaust outlet is located on top or side of the oven and should not be blocked.
  • Clock Setting: The clock can be set to either 12-hour or 24-hour format. After a power cut, '0' will be displayed, requiring the clock to be reset.
  • Child Lock: This safety feature prevents accidental operation. Once set, no functions can be used, but the oven door can still be opened. It is activated by pressing and holding STOP/CLEAR until "L" appears. To cancel, press and hold STOP/CLEAR again.
  • Micro Power Cooking: Allows users to select different power levels (HIGH, MEDIUM HIGH, MEDIUM, DEFROST/MEDIUM LOW, LOW) and cooking times.
  • Two Stage Cooking: Enables cooking food in two distinct stages with different power levels and times. The oven beeps at the end of stage 1, and stage 2 commences. The door can be opened to check food between stages.
  • Quick Start: This feature allows setting 30-second intervals of HIGH power cooking with a single touch of the START/Q-START key. Cooking time can be extended up to 9:59 by repeatedly pressing the START/Q-START key.
  • Auto Cook: Simplifies cooking by allowing users to select a food type (Jacket Potato, Fresh Vegetable, Frozen Vegetable) and enter the weight using the +/- keys.
  • Auto Defrost: Provides four defrost settings: MEAT, POULTRY, FISH, and BREAD. Each category has different power settings. The oven beeps during defrosting, prompting the user to turn food over and separate portions for even thawing.
  • Quick Defrost: A specialized function to quickly thaw 0.5kg of minced meat.
  • More or Less Cooking: Allows users to increase or decrease cooking time by 10-second increments using the +/- keys, particularly useful for adjusting Auto Cook programs or manual cooking.
  • Heating or Reheating Guide: Provides recommended cooking times and instructions for various food items like sliced meat, chicken pieces, fish fillet, lasagne, casseroles, baked beans, ravioli, rice, sandwich rolls, vegetables, and soup.
  • Fresh Vegetable Guide: Offers cooking times and instructions for a variety of fresh vegetables, including artichokes, asparagus, green beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, corn, mushrooms, parsnips, peas, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, spinach, and courgette.
