Do you have a question about the lidl WK 8 A2 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The device is an information technology device, specifically a wildlife surveillance camera (model WK 8 A2), designed for recording digital photos and videos. It is suitable for outdoor use, being dust and splash-water protected (IP54), meaning it can be used regardless of weather conditions, provided the camera is correctly closed and all seals are intact and clean. However, this protection is limited when an external mains adapter is used. The device is not intended for commercial or industrial environments.

Key Components:

The camera features several components for its operation and mounting:

  • Front: Infrared LEDs (1), an LED display (red, green, blue) (2), a camera lens (3), a locking eyelet (4), a front motion sensor (5), and side motion sensors (6). A microphone opening (7) is also present.
  • Rear/Bottom: A tree bracket (8) and tripod threads (9, 20) for mounting.
  • Internal: A screen (10), a battery compartment (11), locking clamps (12), a mode selector switch (OFF - TEST - ON) (13), speakers (14), and control panel buttons (15).
  • Ports: A DC connection socket (16) for an optional mains adapter, a memory card slot (microSD) (17), a Mini USB socket (18), and an AV socket (output) (19).

Technical Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage and Current: 6 V (direct current), max. 1.5 A, powered by 4 or 8 x 1.5 V AA/Mignon/LR6 batteries.
  • Memory: Supports microSDHC cards from 2 GB to 32 GB. A speed rating of Class 10 or higher is recommended to avoid picture errors during recording.
  • Display: 2.3" TFT colour LC display (approx. 5.8 cm screen diagonal).
  • Standby Time: Up to 6 months (with 8 batteries).
  • Photo Resolutions: 16 MP (4608 x 3456 pixels), 12 MP (4000 x 3000 pixels), 8 MP (3264 x 2448 pixels), 5 MP (2592 x 1944 pixels), 3 MP (2048 x 1536 pixels). *Note: These photo resolutions are interpolated.
  • Video Resolutions/Frame Rate: 1920 x 1080 pixels/15 fps, 1280 x 720 pixels/30 fps, 720 x 480 pixels/30 fps, 640 x 480 pixels/30 fps, 320 x 240 pixels/30 fps.
  • Recording Formats: JPEG for photos, AVI for videos.
  • Motion Sensor Detection Angle: Approx. 100° from corner to corner.
  • Detection Range for Photos: Horizontal approx. 96°, vertical approx. 68°.
  • Detection Range for Videos: Horizontal approx. 95°, vertical approx. 50°.
  • Protection Class: IP54.
  • Operating Temperature: –15 to +50°C.
  • Storage Temperature: –20 to +60°C.
  • Humidity (no condensation): 5 to 75%.
  • Dimensions (W x H x D): Approx. 14.0 × 10.0 x 7.5 cm.
  • Weight (incl. 8 batteries): Approx. 490 g.

Usage Features:

  • Powering the Device: The camera can be powered by 4 or 8 AA batteries. When using 4 batteries, they must all be inserted in either the upper or lower part of the battery compartment. An optional 6V DC mains adapter (min. 1.5A, positive internal polarity) can also be used.
  • Memory Card Insertion: A microSDHC card (16 GB included) must be inserted into the memory card slot (17) for the camera to function, as it has no built-in memory. The electrical contacts of the card should face the front of the camera. An adapter card (microSD to SD) (33) is provided for compatibility with SD card slots.
  • Mounting: The camera can be attached to a tree or other object using the supplied securing strap (30) or mounted permanently on a wall or ceiling using the wall bracket. When mounting with the wall bracket, ensure all screws are tight and avoid drilling into electrical lines, water, or heating pipes. The camera should not be mounted upside down, as recordings cannot be rotated later.
  • Alignment (Test Mode): In "TEST" mode, the LED display (2) helps determine the optimal exposure angle and motion sensor range. A blue LED indicates detection by side motion sensors (6), while a green LED indicates detection by the front motion sensor (5).
  • Live Mode (ON Mode): This is the standard operating mode where recordings are triggered by motion sensors (5, 6). The red LED (2) turns off after 15 seconds, and the camera enters standby. Recordings are made based on the configured settings (photos and/or videos).
  • Night Exposures: Infrared LEDs (1) provide illumination for night recordings, effective from about 3m to 20m. Night exposures are in black and white.
  • Settings: The control panel buttons (15) and mode selector switch (13) are used to adjust settings like photo/video mode, resolution, video length, audio recording, shot lag, side motion sensor activation, motion sensor sensitivity, target recording time, time lapse, language, night mode, brightness, endless capture, battery warning, time & date, photo stamp, and password protection.
  • Playback: Recordings can be viewed on the internal screen (10) in "TEST" mode by pressing the PLAY button. Zooming in/out and navigating through images are possible. Videos can be played and paused.
  • External Monitor: Recordings can be displayed on an external monitor or TV by connecting the supplied TV cable (28) to the camera's AV socket (19).
  • Computer Transfer: Recordings can be transferred to a computer via the supplied Mini USB to USB 2.0 connection cable (29). The camera appears as a "Removable Disk," and drivers are automatically installed.
  • Password Protection: A 4-digit password can be set to prevent unauthorized access. If forgotten, the camera can be reset to factory settings by following a specific procedure involving firmware files and button presses.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Clean surfaces with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use water and common detergents, ensuring no moisture enters the device.
  • Seals: Keep the seals between the camera housing, the tree bracket, and the DC connection socket (16) clean to maintain IP54 protection. Regularly treat seals with a small amount of Vaseline to keep them malleable.
  • Battery Removal: Remove batteries if the device will not be used for a long period and store it in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Troubleshooting: A table is provided to help identify and rectify minor malfunctions, such as the camera not working, overexposed images, noisy captures, no recordings, or too many unwanted recordings. If problems persist, contact customer service.
  • Disposal: The device and batteries must be disposed of separately from household waste, in accordance with local regulations, at designated collection points or recycling facilities. Batteries should only be disposed of when fully discharged.
