Overview

The Lifesmart Infrared Portable Desktop Heater, model HT1193, is designed to provide supplemental infrared heat in indoor spaces. Unlike traditional space heaters that blow hot air, this device heats objects directly, making it an efficient choice for maintaining desired temperatures in already heated and insulated rooms. It is not intended to replace a main heat source or to heat uninsulated spaces such as screened porches, RVs, garages, or unheated basements. The heater operates on a 120 V, 60 Hz power outlet and requires a dedicated 15-amp circuit to prevent fire, overheating, malfunction, property damage, injury, or even death.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Lifesmart Infrared Portable Desktop Heater is to emit infrared heat to warm objects within a room. This method of heating is designed to be more efficient in maintaining warmth once a room has reached a desired temperature. The heater is equipped with an overheat safety feature that automatically shuts off the unit if internal components reach a temperature that could cause overheating or fire. To reset the unit after an overheat event, it must be unplugged from the wall and then re-plugged. The heater's fan will continue to run even after the set temperature is reached or the heater automatically cycles down. This is a normal function designed to blow out any remaining heat from the heat chamber and to continue filtering the air. The fan will eventually shut off on its own once the internal components have cooled completely.

Usage Features:

To power on the unit, the master power switch, located on the back of the unit, must first be switched to the ON position. The heater should always be placed in an upright position. It is crucial to plug the heater directly into a properly grounded wall outlet or receptacle; the use of extension cords, surge protectors, timers, direct breakers, or outlets with other appliances connected to the same circuit is strictly prohibited due to the risk of fire, overheating, malfunction, property damage, injury, or death. The heater is hot when in use, so users should avoid touching bare skin to hot surfaces and use handles (if applicable to specific models) or wheels to move it. Combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains must be kept at least 3 ft. (0.9 m) away from the front, sides, and rear of the heater.

Extreme caution is necessary when the heater is used by or near children, invalids, pets, or when left operating unattended. The heater should always be unplugged when not in use. It should not be operated with a damaged cord or plug, or if it has malfunctioned, been dropped, or damaged in any manner; in such cases, the manufacturer should be contacted for resolution options. The heater is for indoor use only and should not be used outdoors, in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor locations that use GFCI outlets. It should never be placed where it might fall into a bathtub or other water receptacles. The power cord should not be run under carpet or covered with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings; it should be arranged away from traffic areas to prevent tripping hazards. To disconnect the heater, the power button should first be turned to the OFF position, and then the plug removed from the wall outlet. Foreign objects should not be allowed to enter or block any ventilation or exhaust opening, as this may cause electric shock, fire, or damage. At least 3 ft. of unobstructed space should be maintained to the front and rear of the heater for maximum heat, air, and ventilation flow. The heater contains hot and arcing or sparking parts inside, so it should not be used in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored, nor should flammable solvents be used to clean it. The heater must be kept dry at all times.

It is normal for the power cord to feel warm to the touch. However, a loose fit between the outlet and the plug may cause overheating of the plug. If this occurs, inserting the plug into a different outlet is recommended, and a qualified electrician should be contacted to inspect the original outlet for damage. When first opening the box and turning on the heater, a strange odor may be present. This is normal and due to a special heat-safe/resistant coating; the odor will dissipate after a break-in period. For those sensitive to odors, pre-burning the unit in a garage with the door open until the initial odor dissipates is suggested.

Maintenance Features:

Before performing any maintenance task, the power switch on the rear of the unit must be turned off, the unit unplugged, and allowed to cool completely. To keep the heater clean, the outer shell should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and a mild detergent if necessary, then dried with a soft cloth. It is crucial not to let liquid enter the heater. Abrasive solvents, alcohol, gasoline, abrasive powders, furniture polish, or rough brushes should not be used to clean the heater, as these can cause damage or deterioration to its surface. The heater should never be immersed in water. After cleaning, the unit must be completely dry before use. When not in use, the heater should be stored in a cool, dry location. To prevent dust and dirt build-up, it is recommended to repack the unit in its original packaging.
