Short Circuit
A general Electrical term. Refers to a resistance or impedance measurement that equals zero ohms; i.e.
between the two terminals of the ohmmeter (or other measuring device) there is no resistance – the opposite
of ‘Open Circuit’ – see above. Examples include a closed switch or an unbroken piece of wire.
Sizmik
Linn bass-extension loudspeaker. Available in floor-standing and wall mount versions (Sizmik 10.25 Kustom)
Skeets
Linn Skeets are floor protectors. Designed to be used to protect wooden/marble/stone (etc) floors from the
spikes in the base of Loudspeaker stands.
Slave
Refers to ‘Slave mode’ – when a Karik is using a Numerik as a D-A converter, there are 2 modes – Master
and Slave modes. Master mode is superior to Slave. Slave mode is the conventional method of locking a CD
player to a D-A converter where the CD player’s clock dictates the D-A converter timing. Master mode is
where the Numerik D-A converter clock dictates the timing of the CD player/Numerik combination. This mode
eliminates data related clock jitter and provides superior sound performances, as the timing is more
accurate. Master mode is achieved by connecting the ‘Sync’ link from the ‘Sync’ socket on the Numerik to
that on the Karik. See also ‘Lock’
Sleeve
(Most Linn products) - Also sometimes known as a ‘wrap’ - this acts as the lid of a product, but usually also
covers the sides and some of the underside.
Slimline
(Used in several Linn products) - a type of Switch Mode Power Supply, designed and built by Linn. Its official
name is the Slimline Brilliant, but is commonly known simply as the Slimline in order to differentiate it from it’s
predecessor the Brilliant - Rectangular in shape, can be used with any mains supply but requires to be
adjusted via a selector switch on mains inlet. (see also Brilliant and Switch Mode Power Supply)
Sneaky
Linn Sneaky is a range of products that can be fitted inside other products. Usually denoted by ‘/S’ after the
name. Some examples are: Kudos/s (the sneaky version of the Kudos) can be fitted inside the Majik or
Wakonda, RCU/S is an RCU that can be fitted inside a Majik or Wakonda, Sneaky Aktiv cards can be fitted
inside Linn power amps etc. The alternative to Sneaky is ‘Standalone’
