S
Sara
Linn Loudspeaker - Introduced 1978, discontinued 1990. Used the Isobarik speaker system. There were 2
versions - Sara and Sara 9.
Satellite Room
In Knekt systems, refers to a room that is not the main room. Also known as Local room and Secondary
room. See Knekt.
Screening Can
This is simply a metal protective surrounding which is used to protect sensitive devices or circuits from
outside interference (RF interference, magnetic interference, static etc). Usually the can is connected to the
Ground plane of the circuit. The screening can completely surrounds the device or circuit in question giving
complete 360-degree protection.
Screening Plate
Performs a similar function to the Screening Can – see above – but instead of completely surrounding the
part of the circuit, it covers the top of the device or circuit only – this does not offer the same level of
protection as a screening can as there are small gaps.
Secondary Room
With reference to a Knekt system, a secondary room is a room or area that is not the Main room ie. one Main
room distributes audio to a number of Secondary rooms. Also sometimes referred to as a Local room or a
Satellite room (see Knekt)
Sekrit
Linn Loudspeaker. Introduced 1994. Two versions are available - Sekrit In-wall and Sekrit on-wall. As the
names suggest, the in-wall version is fitted inside the wall, with only the front baffle visible - these can also
be fitted in ceilings or wherever. The on-wall version is basically the same speaker but has a cabinet
surrounding it and can be used with Brakits to attach it to a wall or can be used with stands to stand on the
floor. Front baffle and grille can be painted to match the décor of the room.
SES8
Linn Intersekt SES8 is a Source Expander. Used in conjunction with an RER16, forms an expandable
system which distributes audio from the main room to other rooms. Each SES8 allows audio & control from 8
sources to be distributed to secondary rooms via the RER16. The system can be expanded to include 2
SES8s (a maximum of 16 sources). See also RER16 and Intersekt
Seven Segment LED
A type of display LED, which as the name suggests, has 7 segments. The segments are arranged in the
shape of a figure ‘8’ which means these can be used to display numbers or letters, usually as part of a larger
display.
