Resistance
A term used in Electrical & Electronic applications which refers to the opposition to a flow of current through
a component or circuit & is measured in ohms. Often confused with Impedance, which is also measured in
ohms (see above).
RF
Short for ‘Radio Frequency’ – see above. ‘RF interference’ refers to Radio Frequencies that interfere with the
function of other devices.
RJ11
A type of plug & socket used to make connections between a PC and a 5103 or Intersekt.
RJ45
A type of plug & socket used to make connections in a Knekt system.
Roomamp
Linn amp - part of the Knekt family of products. Contains a line Receiver and a power amp. Similar to a
Direktor but the Roomamp requires a separate RCU.
RMS
(Universal term) Short for ‘Root Mean Square’ - basically means an average. For example, when discussing
power output of a power amp, we say 80 watts per channel RMS which means that the amp can deliver an
average of 80 watts. The alternative is a ‘Peak’ value. 80 watts per channel peak means that the amp can
peak at 80 watts, but its RMS value is much lower. Some hifi manufacturers use a peak value for power
output in order to give them a higher value and make their amplifiers look more powerful.
RSN
Short for “Return to Service Note”. A vital reference for our Service Dept, usually refers to a number – the
RSN number - given to a faulty product. Every faulty product requires an RSN number in order to pass
through our Service Dept. This number authorises the return of the product to Linn and is used by Linn
personnel as a reference to track the product within Linn premises, during transit etc. This number is also
used to register the failure information against the serial number etc.
RS232
A method of communication between computer type applications. RS232 can be used to control some Linn
products – e.g. Pekin, Kolektor, via a computer, touch-screen etc.
