What to do if Lodestar CM Hoist motor overheats?
    • A
      Amy MurrayAug 25, 2025
Several factors can cause the motor to overheat: * Excessive load. Reduce loading to the capacity limit of hoist as indicated on the identification plate. * Low voltage. Correct any low voltage conditions. * Extreme external heating. If the ambient temperature is above 40°C (104°F), limit the frequency of hoist operation to prevent overheating. Improve ventilation or shield the hoist from radiation. * Frequent starting or reversing. Avoid excessive inching, jogging, or plugging, as this shortens motor and contactor life and causes excessive brake wear. * Phase failure or unbalanced current in the phase (three-phase units only). * Brake dragging. Check brake adjustment. * For 115-1-60 Units: A solid-state reverse switch exposed to excessive temperature or switch damage.

What to do if the Lodestar CM Hoist hook does not stop promptly?
    • K
      Karen AndersonAug 26, 2025
If the hook doesn't stop promptly, it could be due to: * Brake slipping. Check the brake adjustment. * Excessive load. Reduce loading to the capacity limit of hoist as indicated on the identification plate.

Why does the Lodestar CM Hoist Sewing Machine hoist operate sluggishly?
    • M
      Melissa KingAug 28, 2025
A sluggish hoist may be caused by: * Excessive load. Reduce loading to the capacity limit of hoist as indicated on the identification plate. * Low voltage. Correct any low voltage conditions. * Phase failure or unbalanced current in the phases (three-phase unit only). * Brake dragging. Check brake adjustment.

What to do if Lodestar CM Hoist hook raises but will not lower?
    • J
      John WilliamsAug 29, 2025
If the hook raises but won't lower, it might be due to: * An open lowering circuit, caused by an open or shorted winding in the reversing contactor coil or speed selecting relay coil, a loose connection or broken wire in the circuit, control station contacts not making, or lower limit switch contacts being open. Check electrical continuity and repair or replace any defective part. Check operation of limit switch. * The motor reversing switch not operating (single phase unit only).

What to do if the Lodestar Sewing Machine hook fails to stop at either or both ends of travel?
    • J
      Jody MckeeSep 1, 2025
If the hook fails to stop at either or both ends of travel, consider the following: * Limit switches not opening circuits. Check switch connections, electrical continuity, and mechanical operation. Check the switch adjustment and look for pinched wires. * Shaft not rotating. Check for damaged gears. * Traveling nuts not moving along the shaft due to a loose guide plate or damaged shaft/nut threads. Tighten guide plate screws and replace any damaged parts. * Limit switch not holding adjustment.

Why does the Lodestar CM Hoist hook lower when the hoisting control is operated?
    • S
      Stephanie AvilaSep 3, 2025
Phase failure (three-phase unit only) can cause the hook to lower when the hoisting control is operated.

Why won't the Lodestar CM Hoist Sewing Machine hoist operate at slow speed in either direction?
    • J
      Jennifer BrewerSep 4, 2025
If the hoist won't operate at slow speed, it could be due to: * Open Circuit: This could involve an open or shorted motor winding, a loose or broken wire in the circuit, or a speed selecting contactor stuck in the opposite speed mode. Replace the motor, repair the wire, and/or replace the speed selecting contactor. * Phase Failure.

Why won't the Lodestar CM Hoist hoist operate at fast speed in either direction?
    • T
      Tracy WatersSep 6, 2025
If the hoist doesn't operate at fast speed, possible causes include: * Open Circuit. * Open speed selecting circuit, which could be due to an open or shorted winding in the speed selecting contactor coil, a loose connection or broken wire in the circuit, mechanical binding in the contactor, or control station contacts not making or opening. Replace the speed selector, repair the connection, replace the contactor, or replace the control station. * Phase Failure.

Why won't the Lodestar CM Hoist hook raise at slow speed?
    • P
      Phillip MillerSep 9, 2025
If the hook won't raise at slow speed, check for: * Excessive load. Reduce loading to the capacity limit of hoist as indicated on the identification plate. * Phase Failure. * Open Circuit. * Brake not releasing.

Why won't the Lodestar CM Hoist Sewing Machine hook lower at slow speed?
    • M
      Michelle AndersonSep 12, 2025
If the hook refuses to lower at slow speed, consider: * Phase Failure. * Open Circuit. * Brake not releasing.
