Overview

The LOGIK 60cm/90cm Stainless Steel Chimney Hood (models L60CHDX17 and L90CHDX17) is a domestic appliance designed for extracting vapours and removing odours from cooking. It is not intended for commercial use. The cooker hood operates in two modes: air extraction and air recirculation.

Function Description:

  • Air Extraction Mode: In this mode, the air is drawn into the hood, cleaned by the grease filters, and then directed outside through ducting. A non-return flap opens when the hood is switched on to allow vapours to be ducted away. When the hood is off, the flap closes. Adequate ventilation in the room is crucial when using this mode, especially if other gas or fuel-burning appliances are in operation simultaneously, to prevent the danger of toxic fumes and ensure proper combustion. An underpressure of 0.04 mbar (4 Pa) is the maximum permissible in the room to ensure safe operation.
  • Air Recirculation Mode: In this mode, the air is drawn in, cleaned first by the grease filters, and then by optional carbon filters. The cleaned air is then recirculated back into the kitchen through vents in the top of the chimney. Carbon filters are an optional extra and must be installed for this mode to function effectively. The restrictions regarding simultaneous use with other heating appliances do not apply when the hood is in recirculation mode.

The cooker hood features a control panel with an OFF button, three motor speed buttons for selecting fan intensity, and a LAMP button for hob lighting. The unit has three motor speeds, with the highest setting recommended for short periods of cooking with intensive vapours and strong aromas. The hob lighting can be switched on and off independently of the fan.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Grease Filtering Efficiency Class: D (both models)
  • Sound Power Level: 64 dB (both models)
  • Minimum Safe Distance to Hob: At least 650mm, unless the hob/cooker manufacturer specifies a greater distance.

Usage Features:

  • Fan Motor Speed Selection: The hood offers three fan motor speeds. Users can select the appropriate speed based on cooking intensity. The highest setting is suitable for strong vapours and aromas.
  • Hob Lighting: Independent lighting allows users to illuminate the cooking area without operating the fan.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Never use an open flame beneath the cooker hood.
    • Do not flambé or grill over an open flame under the hood.
    • Ensure pans cover burners when using a gas hob.
    • Do not allow pans to overheat excessively.
    • Always switch the hood on when a cooking zone is in use to prevent condensation and corrosion.
    • Do not leave cooking with oil or fat unattended.
    • Do not use the cooker hood without filters in place.
    • Accessible parts may become hot during cooking; avoid touching the housing or grease filters until cooled.

Maintenance Features:

  • Grease Filters: The re-usable metal grease filters remove solid particles from kitchen vapours. They should be cleaned regularly (at least every 3-4 weeks) to prevent grease build-up, which is a fire hazard.
    • Cleaning by Hand: Use a soft nylon brush with a mild solution of hot water and washing-up liquid. Avoid descaling agents, abrasive cleaners, or oven cleaners.
    • Cleaning in Dishwasher: Place filters upright in the lower basket, using a 65°C programme and a mild dishwasher detergent. Discolouration may occur but will not affect functionality.
    • When removing filters, clean any oil/fat residues from the housing. Ensure locking clips face down when replacing.
  • Carbon Filters (Optional): Used in recirculation mode to absorb kitchen odours. Carbon filters are not washable and should be replaced at least every 3 months, or when they no longer absorb odours effectively, to prevent fire risk. Used carbon filters can be disposed of with normal household waste.
  • Changing Lamps: Disconnect electricity, remove the aluminium grease filter, open the black terminal box, disconnect wire terminals, push out the LED light box, and replace.
  • General Cleaning: External surfaces and controls can be cleaned with a damp soft sponge or cloth and a little washing-up liquid. Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaning agents, soda, acids, chlorides, or solvents. Do not use a steam cleaner.

Installation Considerations:

  • Professional tradespersons are recommended for air extraction installations, which require a 150mm or 120mm hole for ducting. For recirculation, a competent layman can follow instructions.
  • Ensure a switched mains socket is available near the hood; avoid extension leads.
  • The unit has a 150mm air outlet; an adapter is needed for 120mm holes.
  • Drill templates or direct marking can be used for screw positions.
  • Ensure no pipework or wires are buried in the wall before drilling.
  • Ducting should be made of non-flammable materials, be as short and straight as possible, use wide radius bends, and have a diameter of at least 120mm for efficient extraction.
  • Horizontal ducting should slope away at least 1 cm per metre to prevent condensation.
  • If ducting runs through areas with temperature variations, it must be suitably insulated.
  • Air must not be discharged into a flue used for other fuel-burning appliances.

The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by non-compliance with safety instructions or unauthorised work. Only genuine original spare parts and accessories should be used.
