Long 460 - VALVE CLEARANCE AND COOLING SYSTEM MAINTENANCE; Valve Tappet Clearance Adjustment; Cooling System Cleaning Procedure

24. ADJUSTMENT OF VALVE TAPPET CLEARANCE. Should be done by
skilled maintenance man. The clea rance between valves and valve
tappets must be of .0098 in . (0.25 mm .) when engine is cold.
After Every 1000 Hours ' Operation :
25. CLEANING THE COOLING SYSTEM. Drain cooling system when the
engine is warm by opening the taps shown on the figure . ( Draining is
easier
with radiator cap removed.) When engine is cold pour in a solution
of 2.2 gals. (1 O I) water and 5.5 lb. (250 g.) soda filtered through a
cloth . Run the tractor for an hour . Drain the cooling system. When
engine has cooled down , fill the radiator with water keeping the taps
open.
Shut the taps, fill with water , start the engine for some minu tes
and then
drain .

When engine has cooled down , fill cooling system with antifreeze solution
up to the level.
