Overview

This document is an instruction manual for a Longines watch, providing comprehensive information on its features, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Longines watch is a timepiece designed to display the hour, minute, seconds, date, and power reserve. It is a mechanical watch, meaning it operates without a battery and requires manual winding or regular wear to maintain its power reserve. The watch is equipped with a power reserve indicator, which shows the remaining power. When the watch is not worn or worn infrequently, the power reserve hand will move anti-clockwise, indicating a decrease in power. To prevent the watch from stopping, it is recommended to wind it manually or wear it when the power reserve indicator shows less than 1/4. Winding the watch will cause the power reserve hand to move clockwise.

Usage Features

The watch features a crown, which is the primary control for setting the time and date, and for winding the watch. Some Longines models are equipped with a screw-in crown, which must be unscrewed by turning it anti-clockwise before any adjustments can be made. After making settings, the crown should be pushed back in and screwed down firmly to ensure the watch's water resistance.

  • Setting the time and stopping seconds: To set the time, the crown should be pulled out to position 3 when the seconds hand is at 60. The crown can then be turned in either direction to set the desired time. Once the time is synchronized, the crown should be pushed back into position 1. If the mechanical watch has not been worn, it needs to be wound manually by approximately thirty revolutions.
  • Quick date correction: To correct the date, the crown should be pulled out to position 2 and turned forward to the desired date display. During this operation, the watch will continue to run, so no time adjustment is required. The date needs to be corrected after any month shorter than 31 days. It is important to avoid quick date correction between 20:00 and 03:00. After setting the date, the crown should be pushed back into position 1. The date will change automatically when the hour hand passes midnight.

Maintenance Features

Longines watches are designed for durability and elegance, but proper maintenance is crucial for their longevity and performance.

  • Water-resistance: The watch's water-resistance can be affected over time by factors such as the drying out of gaskets or accidental shocks to the crown. To maintain water-resistance, it is recommended to rinse the watch in soft water after any contact with sea water. The water-resistance should be checked once a year by an approved Longines Service Centre. It is crucial never to activate the time-setting crown or push-pieces when the watch is underwater, and to ensure that the crown and push-pieces are pushed in or screwed down before any immersion in water. The manual provides a table indicating different levels of water-resistance (3 bar, 5 bar, 10 bar, 30 bar) and their corresponding activities (rain, washing hands, showering, bathing, washing dishes, housework, swimming, snorkeling).
  • International Warranty: Longines provides a twenty-four (24) month warranty on the watch and a five (5) year warranty on models with a silicon balance-spring, effective from the purchase date. This warranty covers defects in materials and manufacturing that exist at the time of delivery, provided a valid warranty certificate, dated and fully completed by an official Longines dealer, is presented. During the warranty period, any defect will be repaired free of charge. If repairs cannot restore the watch to full working order, Longines will replace it with an identical or similar watch. The warranty for the replacement watch expires on the same date as the original warranty.

The warranty does not cover:

  • Battery life.
  • Normal wear and tear, such as scratches on the case or glass, alteration of the color or material of cases, straps, bracelets, and chains made of leather, textile, rubber, or other non-metallic materials, PVD coating, or the color of bronze.
  • Damage resulting from unsuitable or improper use, neglect, carelessness, accidents (knocks, dents, crushing, glass breakage), incorrect use of the watch, or failure to follow the instruction manual.
  • Harm of any nature resulting directly or indirectly from using the watch, or from any operational failure, defect, or lack of precision.
  • The watch having been handled by a non-approved person (e.g., for battery replacement, servicing, or repairs) or altered from its original state without the supervision of Longines.

The manufacturer's warranty is independent of any warranty provided by the vendor and does not affect the purchaser's statutory rights against the vendor. For servicing needs, it is recommended to entrust the watch to an official Longines dealer or an approved Longines Service Centre, as listed on their website, to ensure compliance with Longines standards.

Additional information and tutorials for the watch, especially if it has complications, can be found on the Longines website by scanning the QR code provided in the manual or on the warranty card. The website also offers the instruction manual in 33 languages and advice on maintaining the watch and understanding the warranty terms.
