Overview

This document is an instruction manual for a LONGINES watch, providing comprehensive information on its features, usage, and maintenance, along with warranty details.

Function Description

The LONGINES watch is a timepiece designed for accurate timekeeping and elegant display. It offers hour, minute, seconds, date, and a second time zone hour display (GMT/24H). The watch is equipped with a high-precision movement, ensuring reliability and accuracy. Some models feature a "Very High Precision" (VHP) movement, which offers enhanced accuracy and specific functionalities like the "Flash Setting" app for easy time synchronization. The watch can operate in different display modes, including "Home time" and "Travel time," allowing the user to manage multiple time zones efficiently.

Usage Features

First Use: Upon receiving the watch, it will be in "ENERGY SAVING" mode, with the hands set to 12 o'clock. A black clip will be securing the crown in position 2. This clip must be removed before the first use. After removing the clip and pushing the crown back into position 1, the watch automatically sets to Swiss time and date. The local time can then be set. If the crown is pulled out to position 2 for more than 60 seconds, the watch will revert to "energy saving" mode, and the hands will return to 12 o'clock.

Screw-in Crown: Some LONGINES models feature a screw-in crown. To set the time, correct the date, or wind the watch, the crown must first be unscrewed by turning it anti-clockwise. After making the necessary adjustments, the crown should be returned to position 1, pushed back in, and firmly screwed down to ensure the watch's water resistance.

Display Mode ("Swap" Function): The watch offers different display modes. To check the current display mode, briefly push the crown into position 0; the seconds hand will temporarily move to either 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock, indicating the mode. To switch between display modes, briefly push the crown twice into position 0. After 3 seconds, the seconds hand will return to standard mode.

Time-setting:

  • In Home mode: Pull the crown out to position 2. Turn the crown either way to set the desired time. Turning the crown slowly adjusts the time minute by minute, and the second hand will automatically return to 12 o'clock. Turning the crown quickly adjusts the time hour by hour, moving the hand one hour forward or backward. Once the time is synchronized, push the crown back into position 1.
  • In Travel mode: Pull the crown out to position 2. Turn the crown either way to set the desired time. Turning the crown slowly adjusts the time in 15-minute steps. Turning the crown quickly adjusts the time hour by hour, moving the hand one hour forward or backward. Once the time is synchronized, push the crown back into position 1.

Date Correction: To correct the date, pull the crown out to position 2. Turn the crown quickly either way to move the hour hand forward or backward in successive one-hour steps without affecting the minute and seconds displays. When the hour hand passes midnight, the calendar automatically displays a new date (either the next day or the previous day, depending on the direction of correction). There is a limit of +/- 1 day to avoid disrupting the perpetual calendar. After adjustment, push the crown back into position 1.

Using the V.H.P. GMT Flash Setting App: For V.H.P. GMT models, a dedicated "Flash Setting" app can be downloaded from www.longines.com/watches/flashsetting. This app allows users to set home and/or travel times on their smartphone, and the watch will be updated directly. A tutorial is available within the app to guide users through the process.

Maintenance Features

International Warranty: LONGINES provides a twenty-four (24) month international warranty on all LONGINES watch models from the purchase date. Automatic watches purchased from January 1, 2021, receive a five (5) year warranty. All watch straps and bracelets are covered by a 24-month international warranty for material or manufacturing defects. The warranty covers defects in materials and manufacturing existing at the time of delivery, provided the warranty certificate is dated and fully completed by an official LONGINES dealer. During the warranty term, any covered defect will be repaired free of charge. If repairs cannot restore the watch to full working order, it will be replaced with an identical or similar LONGINES watch. The warranty for the replacement watch expires on the same date as the original warranty.

The warranty does not cover:

  • Battery life.
  • Normal wear and tear (e.g., scratches on the case/glass, alteration of color/material of cases, straps, bracelets, chains made of leather, textile, rubber, or other non-metallic materials, PVD coating, bronze color).
  • Damage from unsuitable/improper use, neglect, carelessness, accidents (knocks, dents, crushing, scratches when changing strap/bracelet), incorrect use, or failure to follow the instruction manual.
  • Harm resulting directly or indirectly from using the watch, operational failure, defect, or lack of precision.
  • Handling by non-approved persons (e.g., for battery replacement, servicing, or repairs) or alterations from its original state without supervision from La Compagnie des Montres Longines, Francillon S.A.

Precautions Concerning Water-Resistance: A watch's water-resistance can be affected by drying gaskets or accidental shocks to the crown. To maintain water-resistance, rinse the watch in soft water after contact with seawater and have its water-resistance checked annually by an approved LONGINES Service Centre. Never open the watch yourself. It is crucial not to activate the time-setting crown or push-pieces when the watch is underwater, and to ensure they are pushed in or screwed down before any immersion.

Water-Resistance Levels: The manual provides a table indicating water-resistance levels:

  • None: Not water-resistant.
  • 3 bar (30 m): Water-resistant to a pressure of 3 bar. Suitable for rain, washing hands.
  • 5 bar (50 m): Water-resistant to a pressure of 5 bar. Suitable for showering, bathing, washing dishes, doing housework.
  • 10 bar (100 m): Water-resistant to a pressure of 10 bar. Suitable for swimming, snorkeling.
  • 30 bar (300 m): Water-resistant to a pressure of 30 bar. Suitable for swimming, snorkeling. *The water-resistance values in meters are equivalent to pressure applied in accordance with standard ISO 22810.

End of Life (E.O.L.) and End of Energy (E.O.E.): The watch indicates that the battery is reaching its end of life when one of its hands jumps every 5 seconds. This E.O.L. mode lasts approximately six months, after which the watch switches to E.O.E. mode, and the hands stop at 12 o'clock. If the battery is replaced during E.O.L. mode or within six months of switching to E.O.E. mode, the perpetual calendar will not need adjustment. However, if the battery is replaced after this period, an approved watchmaker will need to program the perpetual calendar.

Battery Safety: A warning emphasizes keeping the battery out of reach of children, as it can cause serious injuries if swallowed or placed inside any part of the body. Immediate medical attention is required in such cases.

Customer Service: The Customer Service department of La Compagnie des Montres Longines, Francillon S.A., ensures that LONGINES watches are perfectly maintained. For servicing, entrust the watch to an official LONGINES dealer or an approved LONGINES Service Centre listed on www.longines.com. Servicing is guaranteed to comply with the brand's standards.

Additional Information: Detailed information and tutorials for the watch, especially for models with complications, can be found on the LONGINES website at www.longines.com/instruction-manual or by scanning the QR code provided in the manual and on the warranty card. The instruction manual is available in 33 languages.
