Application
The Problem
Some solar pumps may not provide sufficient flow under all
conditions, especially in unusually cloudy weather or when
sufficient storage cannot be provided.
The Solution
The LORENTZ PowerPack PP600H AC allows the pump to be
powered byan AC generator or mains supply.
The solar array remains connected while the PowerPack acts
as a changeover switch between the two power sources.
As soon as backup power is required the PowerPack can be
switched on to bypass the solar generator and supply the
pump from the auxiliary power source. The changeover from
solar is done automatically after switching on the power
supply for the PowerPack.
For a scheduled use of the PowerPack (e.g. to extend pump-
ing time) a seperate time switch can be used to control the
power supply to the PP600H. If the auxiliary power source is
switched off again the PowerPack automatically returns to
solar-direct operation.
The PowerPack is able to power the pump to its full capac-
ity.

Summary

Application

The Problem

Solar pumps may not provide sufficient flow under all conditions, especially in unusually cloudy weather or when sufficient storage cannot be provided.

The Solution

The PowerPack allows the pump to be powered by an AC generator or mains supply, acting as a changeover switch.

Standards

Installation

Mounting

Mount the PowerPack close to the pump controller in a vertical position, protected from direct rainfall.

Wire Sizes

All wires must be #14 AWG (2.5 mm²) or larger for connections.

AC Input Voltage Selection

Select AC input voltage by connecting terminal 1 to either 2 (120VAC) or 3 (240VAC).

Grounding

Bond the metal enclosure to the ground connections of the AC power source and the solar power system.

AC Power Source

Install a 15A circuit breaker at the power source or distribution box for the AC input.

AC Input

Connect AC power to terminals L and N. For 240V, N does NOT indicate neutral.

Solar Power In

Connect the + and - wires from the solar array disconnect switch to the SOLAR POWER IN terminals.

DC Power Out

Connect two wires from the DC POWER OUT + and - terminals to the POWER IN + and - terminals in the solar pump controller.

Operation

Powering On

Connect AC source, turn on Power Pack after connecting to pump controller for system start.

Switching Behavior

Turning PowerPack OFF or disconnecting AC source leaves solar connected; pump may restart in 2 minutes.

Power Saving

Turn OFF PowerPack or AC supply when not needed to prevent constant power draw.

Capacitor Discharge

After turning PowerPack OFF, it takes up to 50 seconds for the POWER ON LED to extinguish.
