Green Genie
In-Pool Filter System
Instructions
Filtration
Whether you are a beginner or experienced water gardener, you will
probably have one objective and that is to achieve a clean, clear healthy
pond. Ponds can be affected by various factors such as unconsumed fish
food, decomposing vegetation and fish excrement. If these pollutants are
allowed to accumulate, in time they will become harmful to your fish. The use
of a biological filter will remove these toxins (nitrite, ammonia) and provide
good quality water with the additional benefit of reducing algae growth.

The Green Genie Inpool Filter System is a compact filter for ponds easy to install and
designed for easy maintenance. It performs three different filtering actions: mechanical,
biological, anti-algae UV action.
1. The mechanical filter is remarkable for its big filtering mass to stop solid parts and
will make the water clean and healthy for plants and fish.
2. The biological filter is made of Aquarock bio media giving the ideal condition for the
beneficent bacteria to develop.
3. UV-C filter: The filter creates a water vortex around the UV-C lamp ( protected by a
quartz tube) that eliminates the Green Water Alage within the pond.
To clean the pump:
1. it is necessary to remove it from the Lower Casing (16.),
2. Turn the rotor housing (15.) counterclockwise, extract the rotor (14.) taking care not to lose
the rubber rotor end caps and the o-ring, wash the parts using pond water and check
for any signs of damage.
3. Reassemble all the parts paying attention to the correct placing of all components.

Overview

The Green Genie In-pool Filter System is a compact and easy-to-install filter designed for ponds, offering a comprehensive solution for maintaining clean, clear, and healthy water. This system performs three distinct filtering actions: mechanical, biological, and anti-algae UV action, addressing various factors that can affect pond water quality, such as unconsumed fish food, decomposing vegetation, and fish excrement.

Function Description:

The primary objective of the Green Genie In-pool Filter System is to achieve and maintain a clean, clear, and healthy pond environment. It combats pollutants that, if allowed to accumulate, can become harmful to fish. The system's multi-stage filtration process effectively removes toxins like nitrite and ammonia, improves water quality, and helps reduce algae growth.

  1. Mechanical Filtration: This stage utilizes a large filtering mass, specifically Bio Media Foam (3), to trap solid particles and debris. This action ensures that the water becomes clean and healthy for both plants and fish by physically removing suspended matter.
  2. Biological Filtration: The system incorporates Aquarock bio media (9), which provides an ideal surface for the development of beneficial bacteria. These bacteria play a crucial role in the nitrogen cycle, breaking down harmful toxins (nitrite and ammonia) into less harmful substances, thereby improving the overall biological balance of the pond.
  3. UV-C Filtration: The filter creates a water vortex around a UV-C lamp (5), which is protected by a quartz tube (4). This UV-C light effectively eliminates Green Water Algae within the pond, preventing unsightly green blooms and maintaining water clarity. The translucent hosetail provided with the unit glows when the UV is working, offering a visual indicator of its operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: The unit is designed for permanent installation to the mains.
  • Earthing and Fusing: It requires earthing and should be fused at 3 amps.
  • Safety Device: A Residual Current Device (RCD) MUST be fitted to the mains supply for safety.
  • Cable Wiring: The wires in the cable are color-coded as follows: Brown (Live), Green/Yellow (Earth), Blue (Neutral).
  • Cable Extension: If cable extension is needed, a suitable length of 3-core cable and an Oasis waterproof (IP68) cable connector should be used.
  • UV Lamp Lifespan: The UV-C lamp should be replaced once a year or after approximately 5000 hours of operation to maintain effectiveness.
  • Compliance: The unit is manufactured in the EEC and conforms to CE Regulations.
  • Warranty: Guaranteed against failure due to defective workmanship or materials for 24 months from the date of purchase. Exclusions include accidental damage, misuse, neglect, use in liquids other than cold water, and "wear and tear" items such as Filter Media, UV Lamp, Quartz Tubes, and O Rings. Damage from running the filter without water or by frost invalidates the guarantee.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The system is designed for permanent installation. For proper installation, it is necessary to comply with the regulations of the Local Electrical Authority. Consultation with a qualified electrician is advised if there are any doubts about electrical wiring.
  • Water Quality Improvement: The filtration system addresses unconsumed fish food, decomposing vegetation, and fish excrement, which are common pollutants in ponds. By removing these, it helps prevent the accumulation of toxins that can harm fish.
  • Algae Control: The UV-C filter specifically targets green water algae, ensuring clear pond water.
  • Visual Indicator: The translucent hosetail provides a convenient way to confirm that the UV-C lamp is operational.
  • Environmental Responsibility: The product is designed with recyclable and reusable materials and components, aligning with the European Directive 2011/65/CE for proper disposal of electrical and electronic devices.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety First: ALWAYS disconnect the mains electricity supply before attempting any maintenance or handling of the unit, whether in or outside water.
  • Pump Cleaning:
    1. Remove the pump from the Lower Casing (16).
    2. Turn the rotor housing (15) counterclockwise and extract the rotor (14), taking care not to lose the rubber rotor end caps and the o-ring.
    3. Wash the parts using pond water and check for any signs of damage.
    4. Reassemble all parts, ensuring correct placement.
  • Pre-filter Check: Regularly check that the pump's pre-filter is not clogged with debris (leaves, silt, etc.) and that the inlet tube is not clogged.
  • UV Lamp and Quartz Sleeve Maintenance:
    • The UV-C lamp should be replaced annually (5000 hours).
    • Check that the UV-C lamp is working properly; replace if not.
    • DANGER: Never look directly at an illuminated UV lamp, as it can cause damage to eyes and skin.
    • When replacing the UV tube or Quartz Sleeve, handle parts carefully as they are very fragile.
    • To replace: Switch off power, remove the top cover, unscrew the 2 retaining screws, unclip the UV cover from the lower casing, remove the UV Mechanism from the lower base, and gently pull the Quartz Sleeve away from the End support.
    • Gently pull the tube out of its enclosure in the end cap and replace with the correct replacement tube.
    • Carefully inspect the quartz sleeve, clean, or replace if necessary.
    • Reverse the procedure to reinstall the UV system.
  • Sponge Cleaning: Wash sponges within a bucket of pond water. Replace them if worn.
  • Aquarock Cleaning: Lightly clean the Aquarock bio media only if it becomes clogged with silt or debris.
  • Casing Cleaning: Rinse both the Upper and Lower Casing, removing any deposits or silt buildup.
  • Reassembly: After maintenance, reassemble all components and check for leaks. Ensure all fittings are watertight, paying particular attention to the hose connectors, which should be hand-tightened but not overtightened.
  • Handling: Avoid lifting the pump out of the pond by the power cable, as this can damage the filter system and necessitate purchasing a new electrical pack.

The Green Genie In-pool Filter System is a robust and reliable solution for pond owners seeking to maintain a pristine and healthy aquatic environment through its effective mechanical, biological, and UV-C filtration capabilities.
