Overview

The LUITON LT-198 is a multi-standard CB radio designed for both mobile and base station operation, compliant with the latest European CB standards. Its selectable CB standards allow for use across Europe, provided the chosen standard is permitted in the country of use.

Function Description:

The LT-198 functions as a two-way radio for communication on the CB band. It supports both AM and FM modulation types, which can be switched via the A/F key. The radio features a squelch control (SQ) with 28 levels and an automatic squelch (ASQ) with 9 levels, allowing users to filter out background noise. An RF Gain control is also included to adjust the receiver's sensitivity. For safety and convenience, the device offers access to emergency channels (CH9 and CH19) and a key lock function. It also includes a scan function to monitor channels. The radio's settings, including the selected CB standard, are stored in nonvolatile memory.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 102 x 100 x 25 mm³
  • Weight: 450 gr
  • Supply Voltage: 13.2 V
  • Current Consumption: 2 A max
  • Operating Temperature Range: -20 to +50°C
  • Antenna Socket: UHF, SO-239
  • Frequency Error: < +/- 300 Hz
  • TX Power: 4 Watt
  • Spurious Transmissions: < 4 nW (-54 dBm)
  • Adjacent Channel Power: < 20 µW
  • FM Deviation: 1.9 kHz
  • AM Modulation: Index 85-90%
  • RX Sensitivity: better than 1 µV
  • Image Rejection: 70dB
  • Adjacent Channel Rejection: 60dB
  • Audio Output: 1 Watt into 8 Ohm
  • Frequency Response: 300-3000Hz

The radio supports various CB standards with different frequency ranges and modulation types:

  • EU: 40 FM/40 AM (26.965-27.405MHz)
  • CE: 40 FM (26.965-27.405MHz)
  • UK: 40 CH FM (27.60125-27.99125MHz)
  • PL: 40 FM/40 AM (26.960-27.400MHz)
  • I2: 36 FM/36 AM (26.965-26.865MHz)
  • DE: 40 FM/40 AM (26.965-27.405MHz) and 80 FM (26.565-26.955MHz)
  • IN: 27 FM/27 AM (26.965-27.275MHz)

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off and Volume Control: The radio is powered on by turning the VOL switch clockwise and off by turning it counterclockwise until it clicks. Volume is adjusted by rotating the VOL knob.
  • Channel Selection: Channels can be changed using the [UP] or [DN] keys on the microphone. Holding these keys allows for fast channel changes.
  • Squelch Control (SQ): Activated by pressing [SQ], the display shows "SQ" and the current level. Levels are adjusted with microphone [UP]/[DN] keys. Holding [SQ] or waiting 3 seconds stores the setting. A higher SQ level requires a stronger signal to open the speaker.
  • Automatic Squelch (ASQ): Activated by holding [SQ] until "AQ" is displayed, followed by "A.X" (X being the ASQ level). Levels are adjusted with microphone [UP]/[DN] keys. Holding [SQ] or waiting 3 seconds stores the setting.
  • Modulation Type: The [A/F] key switches between AM and FM modes, with the selected mode displayed on the LCD.
  • RF Gain Control: Pressing [RFG] displays "R" and the current RF gain level. Microphone [UP]/[DN] adjusts the attenuation level. Pressing [RFG] again exits this control. An "R" on the LCD indicates RFG is active; "R" with level 6 means 6 dB attenuation.
  • Emergency Channel: The [EMG] key cycles through CH9, CH19, and returns to the last normal channel.
  • Key Lock: Holding [EMG] for over 2 seconds locks the keys ("LC" displayed) and unlocks them ("OF" displayed). In lock mode, all keys except PTT are valid.
  • Scan Function: Holding [A/F] starts scanning ("SC" flashes). Scan direction can be changed with microphone [UP]/[DN]. Pressing [A/F] or [PTT] exits scan.
  • Changing CB-Standard: Hold [A/F] while powering on the radio until norms are displayed. Use microphone [UP]/[DN] to select the desired standard, then power off and on again.
  • External Speaker: An 8 Ohm external speaker can be connected to the 3.5mm mono socket on the back. The built-in speaker automatically mutes when an external speaker is plugged in.
  • LCD Display: Features an LCD display with S-Meter for signal strength indication.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fuse Protection: The power cable includes a fuse (5 AF) to protect against technical defects or incorrect polarity. If the fuse blows, the error should be corrected before replacement.
  • Restore Factory Default: Hold [SQ] while powering on the radio until "rt" is displayed. This operation restores all channel and function settings to their factory defaults.
  • Disposal and Recycling: The radio is manufactured in compliance with the European WEEE directive. It should not be disposed of with household waste but returned to designated collection points for recycling. This ensures proper disposal of electronic and electric devices and contributes to the recycling of valuable raw materials.
