LA CUP
Users guide
A new period.
First of all, thank you for choosing Luneale as your next periodmate.
La Cup is a French menstrual cup made from 100% medical platinum silicone (the best quality and safest), with a patented, innovative design
for maximum comfort and ease of use.
We have designed La Cup Luneale with the help of a designer, midwives and an ergonomist, so that all users can be free of the restrictions
caused by their period without impacting on their way of life, health and the environment.
La Cup Luneale is inserted into the vagina during the period and gently collects the flow without absorbing it.
It protects you for up to 8 hours straight with no leakage or odour and is reusable for up to 5 years if looked after correctly. La Cup’s
exclusive shape, with its patented grip area called the Moonpad®, makes it much easier to use, both for first-timers and those used to using
a menstrual cup.
We have designed this digital manual to answer the questions you may have. Read it carefully and take your time to learn how to use La Cup
with the folding method that’s most convenient for you, because the time required to get the hang of it varies from one person to another.
But once you have, we’re sure you’ll never stop using it!
Thank you again for choosing Luneale and welcome in a new period.

What is Toxic Shock Syndrome?
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is an extremely rare, but serious and potentially fatal disease.
This syndrome can be observed in men, women and children. It is caused by a toxin produced
by bacteria (called Staphylococcus aureus or Staphylococcus aureus) that live on the human
body or in the body – usually in the nose, respiratory tract or on the skin.
The conditions under which this toxin is produced by Staphylococcus aureus are still unknown,
and most people are naturally immune to it.
But a minority not being immune, it is advisable to bring you clear information, because half of
the cases occur during the rules.
Given the potential seriousness of TSS, it must be detected and treated quickly.
What are the symptoms of TSS?
It can look like a sudden flu in many ways, with symptoms that do not necessarily appear all at
once: high fever (39° or more), headache or sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting,
muscle aches or rashes that look like sunburn.
What should I do if I have these symptoms?
- Remove your cup as a precaution
- Contact a doctor or hospital immediately and be sure to talk about TSS and the fact that
you are on your period.
If you have had TSS in the past, you should consult your doctor before using internal
protections (tampons or cups) again.
The proper use of the cup
We advise to use a cup size that corresponds to your flow and to ensure that you respect a
maximum wearing time of 8 hours in a row.
We also invite you to wash your hands properly before handling your cup, as
staphylococcus aureus is found in many cases on the skin.
A direct link between cup and SCT has not yet been demonstrated, but we are convinced
that precise information on the correct conditions of use will allow you to use your cup in
complete safety.
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)
Upper ring
Its drop-shaped profile ensures the seal and good support of La Cup. The flat outer side allows for an
extended contact area with your body for maximum safety, while the angled inner side directs flow naturally
to the receptacle.
Holes
They allow air to enter during removal to cancel the suction cup effect.
Receptacle
Where the flow is collected. Depending on the model, it contains 20ml (S), 25ml (M) or 30ml (L), to fit your
flow
MoonPad
Our exclusive patented innovation is used to easily locate the base of La Cup, rotate it during insertion and
pinch during removal.
C-Fold
Flatten the Cup and fold it in half.
The folded side is to be positioned at the
back of your vagina during insertion (see
dotted line).
Folding and insertion methods.
2-step insertion
Place La Cup against your vulva and tilt the ring into your vagina: at this point, only the top of La
Cup is inserted, and it will start to unfold.
Then take hold of the MoonPad and screw it towards the bottom of the vagina so that it is about
1 phalanx away from the entrance to the vagina.
Punchdown Fold
Insert one edge of the ring towards the
inside of the container.
The long side should be positioned at the
back of your vagina when inserting (see
dotted line).
Direct insertion
Insert La Cup almost to its full height. At this stage, it is important that it remains in line with
your vagina and does not slant.
Then release the fold and screw it in to the right height (i.e. where you can’t feel it)
GOOD TO KNOW :
The base of the MoonPad should be just past the entrance to your vagina. If you still feel La Cup,
feel free to push it slightly downwards by pressing the base of the MoonPad: it will position itself
naturally so that you will not feel it at all.
The effectiveness of The Cup is linked to its correct deployment: the top ring must be de-
ployed, which is assured as long as it screws on without resistance.
However, unlike conventional menstrual cups, the receptacle of The Cup is more flexible to
adapt to your body, so it can remain compressed without causing leakage.
Removal.
In most cases, La Cup is positioned about 1 phalanx away from the entrance to
the vagina: it is therefore accessible.
Pinch the MoonPad: this will cancel the suction effect by letting air in through
the holes. Pull gently with small back and forth movements.
If La Cup is pulled up a bit far (this can happen depending on your anatomy
and movements), we advise you to sit on the toilet and push lightly with your
perineum, which will bring it down and make it accessible.
Before handling, it is essential to wash your hands thoroughly.

Overview

The Luneale La Cup is a French menstrual cup designed for comfortable and easy use during menstruation. It is made from 100% medical platinum silicone, ensuring high quality and safety. The cup is designed to be inserted into the vagina to gently collect menstrual flow without absorption, offering protection for up to 8 hours straight without leakage or odor. It is a reusable product, designed to last up to 5 years with proper care.

Function Description

The La Cup's primary function is to collect menstrual flow. Its unique design, developed with the help of designers, midwives, and ergonomists, aims to free users from the restrictions typically associated with their period, without impacting their lifestyle, health, or the environment. The cup features a patented grip area called the "MoonPad," which is intended to simplify insertion and removal, making it user-friendly for both first-time menstrual cup users and those already familiar with them.

The cup's structure includes several key components:

  • Upper Ring: This drop-shaped profile is designed to ensure a secure seal and provide good support for the cup. Its flat outer side offers an extended contact area with the body for maximum safety, while the angled inner side naturally directs flow into the receptacle.
  • Holes: These small holes are incorporated into the design to allow air to enter during removal, effectively canceling the suction cup effect and facilitating easier extraction.
  • Receptacle: This is the main chamber where menstrual flow is collected. The receptacle is designed to be flexible, allowing it to adapt to the user's body and remain compressed without causing leakage, unlike conventional menstrual cups that often require full deployment.
  • MoonPad: This exclusive patented innovation serves as a guide to easily locate the base of the La Cup. It assists in rotating the cup during insertion and provides a pinch point for removal, helping to break the seal.

Usage Features

The La Cup is designed for ease of use, with specific instructions for insertion and removal:

Insertion Methods:

Users can choose between two primary folding methods for insertion:

  • C-Fold: The cup is flattened and then folded in half. The folded side should be positioned towards the back of the vagina during insertion. After placing the cup against the vulva and tilting the ring into the vagina, only the top part of the cup is initially inserted and will begin to unfold. The user then takes hold of the MoonPad and screws the cup towards the bottom of the vagina until it is about one phalanx away from the entrance.
  • Punchdown Fold: One edge of the ring is pushed towards the inside of the container. The long side should be positioned at the back of the vagina during insertion. For direct insertion, the cup is inserted almost to its full height, ensuring it remains aligned with the vagina and does not slant. The fold is then released, and the cup is screwed into place at the correct height where it cannot be felt.

The MoonPad's base should ideally rest just past the entrance to the vagina. If the user can still feel the cup, they are advised to gently push it downwards by pressing the MoonPad's base, allowing it to naturally position itself for comfort. The effectiveness of the cup relies on its correct deployment, meaning the top ring must be deployed without resistance.

Removal:

In most cases, the La Cup is positioned about one phalanx away from the vaginal entrance, making it accessible. To remove, the user pinches the MoonPad, which allows air to enter through the holes, canceling the suction effect. The cup is then pulled gently with small back-and-forth movements. If the cup is positioned too high, users are advised to sit on the toilet and gently push with their perineum, which will bring the cup down and make it accessible.

Adjustment Period:

For first-time menstrual cup users, an adjustment period is common to familiarize oneself with the manipulations. It is recommended to practice using the La Cup during the last days of a period or outside of a period (by moistening it), possibly with external protection like panty liners. For those who have previously used other menstrual cups, an adaptation period may also be necessary, as the La Cup's operation differs, particularly in that it does not require full extension to function correctly.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the La Cup's longevity and hygiene.

Cleaning During Period:

  • Emptying: The cup can be emptied into a toilet, sink, shower, or even in nature.
  • Washing: It should be rinsed with drinking water. Cold water is preferred, as hot water can set blood pigments and potentially stain the cup.
  • Public Places: In public settings, using a disabled toilet with a sink is recommended. If the air holes become blocked, the cup should be filled with water, the palm of the hand placed tightly over the top ring, and the receptacle squeezed with the other hand to clear the holes.
  • Cleaning Products: Soaps or shower gels are not suitable due to their pH. An intimate cleanser with a pH between 4 and 6, ideally one tested for use with menstrual cups (like La Mousse Luneale), can be used, followed by thorough rinsing.
  • Without Drinking Water: If drinking water is unavailable, users can carry a bottle of water, use cup-friendly wipes (Les Wipes Luneale), or carefully wipe the cup with paper and rinse it later when water is accessible.

Sterilisation Between Periods:

Sterilisation is required between periods to ensure hygiene. Two methods are provided:

  • Boiling Water: Immerse the La Cup in a pan of boiling water for 5 minutes. To prevent it from touching the bottom of the pan, it can be placed in a whisk.
  • Microwave: Place the La Cup in a glass jar filled with water and microwave at 600W for 5 minutes.

After boiling, if immediate use is desired, run the cup under cold water to cool it quickly. Otherwise, store it in its pouch until the next use. If these methods are not feasible (e.g., when traveling), a cold sterilisation tablet (similar to those for baby bottles) can be used according to the manufacturer's instructions. If the cup becomes opaque or stained, its original appearance can be restored by immersing it overnight in boiling water with the juice of half a lemon or a little white vinegar, followed by thorough rinsing.

Warnings:

  • The La Cup is not a contraceptive and does not protect against Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).
  • Vaginal intercourse should not occur while wearing the cup.
  • Users with an IUD should ensure the wires are cut short and pinch the MoonPad well during removal to avoid displacement of the IUD. Consultation with a gynecologist or midwife is advised if there are doubts about IUD positioning.
  • The cup should not be used after vaginal surgery (e.g., hysteroscopy) without the consent of a gynecologist/midwife.
  • In cases of vaginal infection or suspected infection, internal protection should be avoided during treatment with an egg or intravaginal cream, as it may cause discomfort and burns.
  • The La Cup is not recommended for post-natal bleeding or after a miscarriage or abortion.
  • After an episiotomy, users should wait until the scar has healed and the perineum has been rehabilitated, and until the vagina and cervix have returned to normal.
  • Users with other intimate pathologies should consult their gynecologist/midwife for advice before using the La Cup.
  • The La Cup should never be cleaned in a dishwasher.
