Overview

The Mac Allister MSRP1800 is an 1800W electric scarifier and raker designed for domestic and hobby garden use. Its primary function is to scarify and remove thatch from lawns, or to rake light debris from the lawn surface, promoting better oxygen absorption, airing, and draining. When equipped with the scarifier drum, the product uses specially adapted blades to scratch through and between the grass, collecting unwanted parts while leaving the grass stalk intact, and simultaneously aerating the ground. With the raker drum installed, the tines scratch the lawn surface to pick up light debris.

Function Description:

The MSRP1800 is intended for scarifying and raking lawns. Thatch, a build-up of organic materials like dead grass, leaves, stems, rhizomes, and overcrowded grass roots, stifles lawn growth. Removing thatch encourages the lawn to thicken, become stronger, and less susceptible to disease by increasing water, air, and nutrient penetration to the root zone. The product is not designed for use in wet weather conditions, mowing grass, or shredding leaves. It is for private domestic use only and not for commercial trade.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated voltage, frequency: 220-240V~, 50Hz
  • Rated power input: 1800 W
  • Rated no load speed n₀: 3700 min⁻¹
  • Protection class: II (double insulation)
  • Degree of protection: IPX4 (protection against harmful ingress of water)
  • Working width of Scarifier: 370mm
  • Working width of Raker: 350mm
  • Working height: -3/-6/-9/-12 mm (adjustable)
  • Grass catcher volume: 52 L
  • Weight: 15 kg
  • Sound pressure level LₚA: 85.3 dB(A)
  • Uncertainty KₚA: 3 dB(A)
  • Measured sound power level LwA: 97.66 dB(A)
  • Uncertainty KwA: 3 dB(A)
  • Guaranteed sound power level LwA: 100 dB(A)
  • Hand arm vibration aₕ,wB: 7.214 m/s²
  • Uncertainty K: 1.5 m/s²
  • Extension cord suitability: 1.5 mm² for up to 60 m, 2.5 mm² for up to 100 m.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The product requires full assembly before use. This includes attaching the lower, middle, and upper handle bars, securing them with knobs and mounting sets, and assembling the grass catcher. The cord strain relief must be slid onto the middle handle bar.
  • Handle Adjustment: The lower handle bar can be adjusted to three positions to suit the user's height. The arrow on the handle support should align with one of the three position lines. Securing knobs must be tightened to ensure the tooth system interlocks.
  • Depth Adjustment: The working depth is adjusted using a knob (9). Turning it clockwise increases depth, and anticlockwise decreases it. The adjusted depth can be read from a scale.
    • Scale 0 (transport): For transportation and storage.
    • Scale 1 (low): For scarifying young or sensitive lawns, removing thin thatch layers, or for a second scarification in autumn.
    • Scales 2, 3, 4 (re-adjustment): Used as blades/tines wear, gradually setting them lower starting from setting 2.
    • The optimum working depth is when blades/tines are inserted 2-3 mm into the ground. Setting the depth too deep can overload the motor.
  • Start/Stop: The product is started by pressing the lock-off button (1) and pulling the start/stop lever (2) against the handle (3). Releasing the lever stops the motor.
  • Power Connection: The product is equipped with a power cord (17) and a cord strain relief (16). The power cord must always be used with the cord strain relief, and the supply must be protected by a residual current device (RCD). The power cord is doubled and hooked over the strain relief to ensure a firm attachment.
  • Operation Guidelines:
    • Always check for damage before use.
    • Push the product forward by its handle, keeping it dry for safe support.
    • Ensure air vents are unobstructed.
    • Stop the product immediately if disturbed and allow it to come to a complete stop before averting.
    • Avoid overworking; take regular breaks.
    • Mow the lawn before scarifying/raking and fertilize afterwards.
    • Clear the lawn of stones, sticks, wire, or other objects.
    • Do not work on wet lawns.
    • Push the product slowly at an appropriate speed to prevent discharge opening blockage and motor overloading.
    • Work in slight overlapping rows, preferably straight lines, to ensure even processing.
    • Exercise caution when changing direction.
  • Overload Protection: Activated by material build-up, material exceeding motor capacity, or excessive resistance. If activated, switch off, disconnect, allow to cool, and eliminate the cause before restarting.
  • Drum Replacement: The scarifier or raker drum can be removed and fitted. This involves removing the grass catcher, turning the product upside down, pulling the securing lever (18a/19a) to the unlock position, sliding the drum to one side to disengage bearings, and then pulling it out. When fitting, ensure bearings align correctly and the securing lever is turned to the lock position. If the drum is blocked by the plastic housing, rotate it to clear the blade.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Care: Keep the product clean, removing debris after each use and before storage. Regular cleaning prolongs life and ensures safe use.
  • Inspection: Inspect for worn or damaged parts before each use. Do not operate if parts are broken or worn.
  • Cleaning: Clean with a dry cloth and a brush for hard-to-reach areas. Stubborn dirt can be removed with high-pressure air (max. 3 bar). Do not use chemical, alkaline, abrasive, or aggressive detergents.
  • Power Cord: If damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, service agent, or similarly qualified persons.
  • Spare Parts: Scarifier drum (SLS37A.0.1) and Raker drum (SLS37A.0.2) are consumer-replaceable and available from authorised dealers or customer service. Always use original spare parts.
  • Storage: Switch off, disconnect, clean, and adjust working height to the highest position. Loosen wing nuts on handles and fold them. Store in a dry, frost-free, well-ventilated place, inaccessible to children, ideally between 10-30°C. Use original packaging or a cloth cover to protect against dust.
  • Transportation: Switch off, disconnect, attach transportation guards, and carry by the transportation handle (8). Protect from heavy impact or strong vibrations and secure to prevent slipping or falling.

Safety Warnings:

  • Read instructions carefully before use.
  • Never allow children or unfamiliar persons to use the machine.
  • Wear ear protection, safety glasses, substantial footwear, and long trousers. Avoid loose clothing.
  • Inspect the area for objects that could be thrown.
  • Disconnect from power supply before any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning.
  • Beware of sharp tines/blades; they continue to rotate after the motor is switched off.
  • Keep extension cords away from tines/blades.
  • If the power cord is damaged, do not touch it before disconnecting from the supply.
  • Do not operate if the cord is damaged or worn.
  • Do not tilt the machine when switching on the motor unless necessary for starting, and lift only the part away from the operator.
  • Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts.
  • Stop the machine and remove the plug before leaving, clearing blockages, checking/cleaning, or after striking a foreign object.
  • If the machine vibrates abnormally, inspect for damage and repair.
  • Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight.
  • Check the debris collector frequently.
  • Be careful during handle adjustment to prevent finger entrapment.
  • Allow the machine to cool down before storing.
  • The product produces an electromagnetic field; consult a doctor if you have medical implants.
  • Do not expose to rain or wet conditions.
  • Objects thrown by the product could hit bystanders; keep people and pets at a safe distance.
  • Keep supply cord away from the attachment.
  • Wait until all components have completely stopped before touching the product.
  • Work across slopes, never up and down.
  • If the product strikes a foreign object, stop the motor, disconnect, and inspect for damage. Repair any damage before restarting.
  • Extensive vibration indicates damage; inspect and repair promptly.
