Summary of Essentials. Take equipment specific to
paddling:
• Life Jacket or PFD
• Buoyant heaving line
• Sound signaling device
• Bailer or bilge pump
• Proper clothing including a dry suit, wet suit, or other
cold-water gear
• Paddle float to aid in re-boarding, self-rescuing
• Throw bag or dry bag
• Charts, maps and graphs
• Communication device (phone, GPS or VHF marine
radio)
• First aid kit (know how to use it)
• Water and snacks
• Sponge – to get the last bit of water out of kayak
• Duct tape – For quick repairs
• Pocketknife/ Rescue knife
