Overview

The provided document is an owner's manual for the Magma Crossover Series Marine Single Firebox (CO10-101-M). This device is a marine-grade single firebox designed for outdoor cooking, primarily using propane fuel.

Function Description

The Magma Crossover Series Marine Single Firebox serves as a portable outdoor cooking appliance. Its primary function is to provide a heat source for grilling or other cooking methods, suitable for marine environments. It is designed to be compact and includes features for easy setup and storage.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: CO10-101-M
  • Fuel Type: Propane only. It is designed specifically for use with 1lb propane cylinders. Natural Gas applications require contacting Magma.
  • Regulator Model: 10-775 (gas pressure regulator)
  • Included Components: Single Firebox, Cutting board (10-769), Cooking grate (10-771), Disposable grease tray foil liner (CO10-393).
  • Clearance Requirements:
    • Minimum 24 inches (61 cm) from the side or back to any combustible material when operating.
    • Minimum 60 inches (152 cm) clearance between the grilling surface and any overhead construction.
  • Storage Temperature: Propane can be safely stored outdoors in temperatures down to -50°F (-45°C).
  • Construction: Marine-grade, designed for durability in outdoor and potentially harsh environments.

Usage Features

The firebox is designed for ease of use and portability, with several key features:

  • Propane Cylinder Connection: The regulator connects to a 1lb propane cylinder by screwing it clockwise. The bottle then rotates down into a provided cradle for secure positioning.
  • Integrated Handles/Table Support: The unit features handles that pull up from the bottom and lock into place. These handles also serve as supports for the covers/tables, which unclip and open to rest on the handles, creating additional workspace. To close the handles, a pin under the handle is pulled to release and fold them down.
  • Ignition System: The firebox includes an igniter for convenient lighting. To light, the lid must be open, the knob pushed in and turned left until the igniter sparks the gas. The knob is then released and turned further left to adjust the flame.
  • Manual Lighting Option: In case the igniter fails, the unit can be manually lit using a long match or lighter inserted through the cooking grates near the burner. The front knob is then pushed in and turned left to release gas and light the burner.
  • Grease Management: A disposable grease tray foil liner (CO10-393) is used to collect grease. The grease container can be removed by pressing a lever to unlock it, then pulling out the tray to remove the disposable liner.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Gas Leak Detection: Instructions are provided for what to do if gas is smelled, including turning off the appliance, extinguishing flames, disconnecting the cylinder, leaving the area, and allowing gas to dissipate.
    • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Explicit warnings against using the appliance in enclosed spaces (campers, tents, cars, homes) due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
    • Combustible Materials: Strict instructions to maintain proper clearance from combustible materials and to avoid using the appliance near flammable walls, under eaves, or overhangs.
    • Unattended Operation: Emphasizes never leaving the appliance unattended while hot or in use and keeping children and pets away.
    • Hot Surfaces: Users are advised to use insulated oven mitts or gloves when handling the hot appliance or cooking liquids.
    • Not a Heater: The appliance is not intended for use as a heater.
    • Cool-down Period: The cooking vessel must be allowed to cool to 115°F (45°C) before moving or storing.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the Magma Crossover Series Marine Single Firebox:

  • Area Clearance: The appliance area must be kept clear of combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.
  • Airflow: Ensure that the flow of combustion and ventilation air is not obstructed. Ventilation openings of the cylinder enclosure must be kept free of debris.
  • Burner/Venturi Tube Inspection: Regularly check and clean burner/venturi tubes for insects and insect nests, as a clogged tube can lead to a fire beneath the appliance.
  • Flame Inspection: A normal flame should be entirely blue and appear to touch the burner at the bottom, with minimal yellow/orange. Excessive yellow/orange indicates insufficient primary oxygen, requiring the adjuster to be raised to the high altitude position. A "roaring" blue flame with the base lifted off the burner indicates too much primary oxygen, requiring the adjuster to be moved towards sea level/lower altitude.
  • Hose Inspection: The fuel supply hose must be cleaned and inspected before each use. Any evidence of abrasion, wear, cuts, or leaks necessitates replacement with a manufacturer-specified hose assembly before operation. The hose should also be kept away from heated surfaces.
  • LP Gas Cylinder Compliance: LP gas supply cylinders must be constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications or the Standard for Cylinders, Spheres and Tubes for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, CAN/CSA-B339.
  • Regulator and Hose Assembly: Only the pressure regulator and hose assembly supplied with the appliance, or manufacturer-specified replacements, should be used.
  • Vapor Withdrawal: The cylinder supply system must be arranged for vapor withdrawal.
  • Cylinder Storage and Filling:
    • Do not store a spare LP gas cylinder under or near the appliance.
    • Never fill the cylinder beyond 80 percent full.
    • Only cylinders marked with "Propane" should be used.
  • Cleaning: The manual implies regular cleaning to prevent discoloration or corrosion, especially for stainless steel surfaces, which can be affected by salt water exposure or excessive heat.
