Overview

The Magna Alert Amplifier is a series of public address (PA) mixer amplifiers designed for various applications such as schools, supermarkets, banks, and public areas requiring background music and speech. These units are an all-in-one solution, integrating multiple source inputs, a pre-amplifier, and a mixer power amplifier within a compact chassis. The series includes models with different power outputs: Alert 30 (30W), Alert 60 (60W), and Alert 120 (120W).

Function Description:

The Alert Amplifier units are 100V line amplifiers featuring a built-in MP3 recorder and an alert trigger. They offer a comprehensive set of inputs for various audio sources. Mic 1 has a balanced XLR input (with selectable phantom power) on the rear panel, or a 6.3mm jack input. Mic 2 & 3/Line 1 & 2 are unbalanced 6.3mm jack inputs. Line 3 & 4 are RCA phono line inputs. There is also one RCA phono line output for connecting additional mixer-amplifiers or slave amplifiers.

A key feature is the alert input with Music on Hold (MOH) functionality, which prioritizes the alert message and mutes all other inputs when activated. The alert message can be a pre-recorded 20-second message, triggered via external contacts (e.g., door contact, timer unit, or push button). This message is stored in the amplifier's internal memory and can be customized by downloading an MP3 file via a micro USB socket on the rear panel. It's important to note that the alert message is for alarm notification only and should not be used for emergency evacuation notices.

The amplifiers include a built-in FM tuner and an MP3 player with a remote control for convenient playback. Bluetooth connectivity is also integrated, allowing wireless audio streaming from compatible devices. Individual volume controls are provided for each source (Microphone 1-3, Line 1-4, MP3/FM), along with overall Bass, Treble, and Master volume controls for precise audio adjustment.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: Alert 30, Alert 60, Alert 120

  • Output: 100V or 70VAC & 4Ω, 8Ω, or 16Ω screw terminals. Only one type of output (Ω or 100V) should be used at a time.
  • Connectors:
    • Mic 1: Balanced Mix XLR / 6.3mm jack with phantom power
    • Input 2-3: Mic/Line inputs switchable unbalanced 6.3mm phone jack
    • Line 3-4: RCA inputs
    • Line output: RCA
    • Alert Message: Volt-free contact with 20-second record facility via USB Mini socket

    • Desktop: 3kg (Alert 30), 6.7kg (Alert 60), 7.8kg (Alert 120)
    • Rackmount: 7kg (Alert 60), 8.1kg (Alert 120)

Usage Features:

  • Powering: Can be powered by 230V AC mains or a 24V DC battery (e.g., lorry or boat battery). Ensure DC cables are rated for at least 10A.
  • Speaker Connection: Supports both low impedance (4Ω, 8Ω, 16Ω) and 70V/100V line speaker systems. For 100V line systems, the combined wattage of connected speakers should not exceed 80% of the amplifier's output power rating.
  • Input Sensitivity: Dipswitches on the rear panel allow selection of input sensitivity for Mic 2/Line 1 and Mic 3/Line 2, enabling use with either microphones or line-level sources.
  • Phantom Power: Selectable 48V phantom power for Mic 1 via a dipswitch.
  • Alert Priority: A dipswitch allows setting priority for the alert message over Mic 1.
  • MP3/FM/Bluetooth Player: Front panel USB port and SD card slot for MP3 playback. Built-in FM tuner with auto-search and station storage. Bluetooth connectivity for wireless audio streaming (device name 'UP-321B'). Controlled via IR remote.
  • Tone Control: Bass and Treble EQ controls adjust the overall output tone. A 12 o'clock position applies no effect.
  • Output Level Monitoring: Level meter LEDs indicate output signal strength, with a red "Clip" LED warning of distortion or clipping.
  • VOX Functionality: If Mic 1 priority is enabled, audio playback volume will automatically reduce when speaking into Mic 1.
  • Stand-By Mode: The amplifier can be put into stand-by mode using the remote control.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft cloth with a neutral detergent to clean the casing. Avoid strong solvents.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow and do not cover cooling vents. Regularly clear dust or debris from ventilation grilles using a vacuum cleaner.
  • Servicing: Refer all servicing to qualified personnel. Do not remove the unit's cover as there are no user-serviceable parts inside, and doing so will void the warranty. Servicing is required if the amplifier or mains cable is damaged.
  • Protection Circuits: Designed with automatic overload protection, short-circuit protection, and high-temperature shut-off to prevent damage to internal circuits.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Complies with European Union directives, including WEEE, indicating that the product should be disposed of through approved recycling processes.
  • Packaging: Retain the original packaging for potential servicing returns.
