o Flat steel will be held more strongly than round bar stock or tube steel.
o Avoid sudden jerking or Shock force as this will cause the magnet to lose its hold.
o Never use the Multi Angle as a welding ground or as part of an electric circuit.
o For safe operation, the bottom surface of the Pole Plates must always be Flat and Smooth. If necessary, it is possible to sand the Magnet face smooth
using 400 grit sandpaper and a flat surface. Always file any burrs that would interfere with full contact.
Multi Angle Operation
o The handle on this Magswitch Multi Angle must be turned clockwise 180 degrees until it stops in order to be turned “ON”. It is not possible to hold
the Magnet in place unless fully turned “ON”. Turn ON only when in contact with ferromagnetic steel.
o To release the magnetic hold, Press down on the handle and turn the handle in the counter clockwise direction until it stops. Remove all items
attached to or hanging from the Multi Angle before turning off! The Magnet will turn off and release immediately upon turning the handle, Use
Caution to ensure that it is safe to release the magnet and that nothing will fall or become dangerous.
o This Magswitch Multi Angle is capable of exceptional Break-Away force holding power; Magswitch Magnets are exceptionally strong in Shear Force
as well. Prying force is the least powerful of the holding capabilities and great care must be used when attempting to use this device with Pry force.

Overview

The Magswitch Multi Angle 400/1000 Magvise is a versatile magnetic tool designed to securely hold small and medium-sized pieces of steel for tasks such as tack welding. Utilizing patented Magswitch technology, these devices offer significant holding power across all sides of their pole plates, as well as strong shear force holding strength to minimize sideways movement. The unit can be positioned to function as an effective magnetic vise (Magvise), and its on/off control and easy cleaning of debris make it a practical choice for various applications.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Magswitch Multi Angle is to provide a temporary, strong magnetic hold on ferromagnetic materials. This allows users to position and stabilize workpieces, particularly for welding or assembly tasks, without the need for clamps or other mechanical fasteners. The "multi-angle" aspect refers to the various angled surfaces on the pole plates (e.g., 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°, 105°, 120°, 135°) that enable it to hold materials at different orientations. The Magvise functionality allows the device to act as a magnetic vise, securing materials in place for hands-free operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Temperature Limit: Magnets should not be exposed to temperatures above 176°F (80°C), as higher temperatures can permanently degrade the magnet's effectiveness and potentially lead to unsafe conditions.
  • Material Compatibility: Designed for ferromagnetic steel. Flat steel is held more strongly than round bar stock or tube steel. Thicker metals (e.g., 1/4" or 6mm steel) are held more strongly than thin gauge metals.
  • Holding Capabilities:
    • Pull Force: Offers the most holding capacity, representing the strongest magnetic bond directly perpendicular to the surface.
    • Shear Force: Provides strong holding strength against forces parallel to the surface, reducing sideways movement. This is less than pull force.
    • Pry Force: Represents the least powerful holding capability, where force is applied to lift or pry the magnet off the surface. Great care must be used when relying on pry force.
  • Angles (Magswitch Multi Angle 400): Features pole plate angles of 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°, 105°, 120°, and 135°.
  • Angles and Pipe Grooves (Magswitch Multi Angle 1000): Includes pole plate angles of 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°, and 105°, along with specific pipe vise slots for small, medium, and large pipes.
  • Lubricant: Contains PTFE lubricant.

Usage Features:

  • On/Off Control: The device features an on/off knob (Multi Angle 400) or a ratcheting handle (Multi Angle 1000) that is turned clockwise 180 degrees until it stops to engage the magnet ("ON"). To release the magnetic hold, the handle is pressed down and turned counter-clockwise until it stops ("OFF"). The magnet releases immediately upon turning off.
  • Versatile Positioning: The multi-angle design allows for holding materials at various angles, making it adaptable for complex geometries.
  • Pipe Grooves (Multi Angle 1000): Specific grooves are integrated for securely holding round stock or pipes of different diameters.
  • Pre-Use Testing: Always test the connection before use to ensure the device can securely hold the material.
  • Surface Condition: The bottom surface of the pole plates must always be flat and smooth for optimal contact. Burrs should be filed, and the magnet face can be sanded smooth with 400 grit sandpaper if necessary.
  • Storage: Store the Magswitch Multi Angle in the "off" position when not in contact with ferromagnetic metals. It can be left ON or OFF indefinitely without harm.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Keep the bottom of the magnet and side plates clean and free of debris and rust. If needed, wipe with WD40 or a light oil.
  • Surface Preparation: Ensure the connection point on the workpiece is clean and free of dirt, debris, oils, grease, or paint, as these factors can significantly reduce the magnetic bond strength.
  • No User Serviceable Parts: Users should not attempt to disassemble or alter the device, as there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Any alteration voids the warranty.

Safety Precautions and Limitations:

  • Magnetic Interference: Keep all magnets at a safe distance from magnetic storage devices, electronics, and credit cards.
  • Overhead Lifting: Never use the Magswitch Multi Angle for overhead lifting or to transport material, as accidental release could cause injury or property damage.
  • Damage: Do not use the device if it is damaged or not working properly.
  • Environment: Not designed for underwater use or hazardous environments.
  • Painted Surfaces: Not recommended for painted or finish-coated surfaces, as this will reduce the magnetic bond and may damage the finish.
  • Welding Ground: Never use the Multi Angle as a welding ground or as part of an electric circuit.
  • Shock Force: Avoid sudden jerking or shock force, as this can cause the magnet to lose its hold.
  • Release Procedure: Always remove all items attached to or hanging from the Multi Angle before turning it off to prevent items from falling.
