DO’s and Don’ts in CAN Diagnosis:

Resistance /
Continuity check
Battery to be disconnected
Do not check when battery is
connected
All ECU's should be connected Do not test at ECU level
Multimeter to be used to check
resistance

Do not use lamp method to check

Check at interconnector or OBD

Do not hamper twisted CAN wires
Unlock the connector lock, then
pull using connector
Do not pull wiring harness when
disconnecting inter connector
When connecting connectors,
hold connectors and put them
together until they lock securely
Do not hold wiring for connecting
the inter connector
Wiring Issues
Follow CAN standard wiring
harness
Do not connect CAN terminal
using bypass wire, otherwise the
CAN lines may be influenced by
the electrical noise.
Change complete wiring Do not replace only CAN wiring
When installing the wiring
harness fix it with clamps
Do not leave loose / hanging
wires. Excessively loosed CAN
lines may be influenced by the
electrical noise.
After replacing check continuity
Do not connect Battery before
ensuring continuity
After replacing check Resistance
Do not connect Battery before
ensuring Resistance
