Do you have a question about the Makita GA7010C and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Makita GA7010C, GA7011C, and GA9010C are angle grinders designed for various grinding tasks. The GA7010C and GA7011C are 180mm (7") angle grinders, while the GA9010C is a 230mm (9") angle grinder. These tools are engineered to provide a more comfortable user experience compared to previous models.

Function Description

These angle grinders are primarily used for grinding applications. They are designed to be lighter than their predecessors (the 9067/9069 series models), weighing approximately 800g (1.8 lbs) less, which contributes to reduced user fatigue during extended operation. Despite the weight reduction, they maintain the same high power output as the 9067/9069 series, ensuring efficient material removal.

A key functional enhancement is the integration of electronic features. These include a soft start mechanism, which gradually increases the motor speed upon activation, preventing sudden jolts and improving user control. A current limiter is also incorporated to protect the motor from overload by restricting the current draw, thereby extending the tool's lifespan. Furthermore, the grinders feature constant speed under load, meaning the motor maintains a consistent RPM even when encountering resistance during grinding, which results in smoother operation and a more uniform finish.

Usage Features

The design of these angle grinders focuses on user comfort and operational efficiency. The reduced weight makes them easier to handle, especially during prolonged use or when working in various orientations. The soft start feature is particularly beneficial for safety and control, as it minimizes the initial torque reaction, making the tool less likely to jump out of the user's hands. The constant speed under load ensures that the grinding performance remains consistent, allowing users to achieve predictable results without the need to constantly adjust their technique or apply excessive pressure. The current limiter adds a layer of protection, preventing potential damage to the motor from overexertion, which is common in demanding grinding tasks.

Optional accessories are available to enhance the versatility and functionality of these grinders. A dust cover attachment can be used with the GA7010C and GA7011C models to help manage dust and debris, improving visibility and maintaining a cleaner work environment. Assorted accessories are also available for both the 180mm (7") and 230mm (9") angle grinders, allowing users to adapt the tools for specific applications and materials.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of these angle grinders. The manual provides detailed instructions for various repair and maintenance procedures.

Lubrication: Proper lubrication of the gear room is essential for a long gear life. It is recommended to put 40g of Makita grease SG. No.0 into the gear room of the gear housing.

Disassembly and Assembly: The manual outlines the steps for disassembling and assembling various components, including the armature, spiral bevel gears, and ball bearings. It's important to note that different models use different spiral bevel gears, and they are not interchangeable. Users must refer to the provided list to ensure the correct gears are used for replacement.

  • Replacing Armature, Smaller Spiral Bevel Gear, and Ball Bearing 6201LLB:

    • Disassembly involves separating the gear housing section from the motor housing after removing carbon brushes and tapping screws. The armature and gear housing cover assembly can then be separated by striking the corners. The smaller spiral bevel gear is removed from the armature shaft, and the ball bearing 6201LLB is removed from the gear housing cover using an arbor press and a round bar.
    • Assembly is the reverse process. The ball bearing is inserted into the gear housing cover, and the armature is press-fitted to the gear housing cover using a bearing setting plate and arbor press. The smaller spiral bevel gear is installed on the armature shaft and tightened. Finally, the assembly is installed onto the motor housing, aligning screw holes and protrusions, and fastened with tapping screws.
  • Replacing Larger Spiral Bevel Gear and Ball Bearing 6202DDW:

    • Disassembly involves removing hex socket bolts that fasten the bearing box to the gear housing. Slotted screwdrivers are used to lift the bearing box and separate the gear housing. The ball bearing 608LLB is removed from the spindle using a bearing extractor, and the retaining ring S-15 is removed to allow the larger spiral bevel gear and Woodruff key to be removed. The spindle is then removed using a gear extractor. The bearing retainer is removed from the bearing box using a bearing retainer wrench, and the ball bearing 6202DDW is removed by hitting it against a workbench or using an arbor press.
    • Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. When installing the larger spiral bevel gear onto the spindle, care must be taken to ensure the Woodruff key 4 is in position. Applying grease to the key slot on the spindle is recommended to securely hold the Woodruff key in place.
  • Replacing Shaft Lock Section:

    • Disassembly involves removing the bearing box from the gear housing. The shoulder pin 7 is pulled off with pliers while pushing the pin cap with a finger. A crucial note is not to pull off the shoulder pin without holding the pin cap, as the compression spring 7 could sling the pin cap.
    • Assembly is the reverse. It is important not to reinstall the removed pin cap because its inside surface may be damaged during removal. Users should remove any plastic dust from the shoulder pin 7 and install a brand-new pin cap.

Wiring Diagram: The manual provides detailed diagrams and instructions for wiring the motor housing, lead wires of the pickup coil, and the handle. This includes routing lead wires through openings, holding them with lead wire holders, and connecting various components like the field, controller, and noise suppressor. Specific instructions are given for different voltage areas and countries, noting that some countries do not use certain electrical parts like the choke coil or noise suppressor.

Repair Tools: A list of necessary repair tools is provided, including a bearing setting plate, gear extractor (large), hex shank bit M5, bearing extractor, retaining ring S and R pliers, and a bearing retainer wrench. Each tool's specific use is outlined, such as press-fitting ball bearings, removing gear housing covers, installing/removing bolts, and removing/installing retaining rings and bearings.

Overall, these Makita angle grinders are designed for powerful, comfortable, and controlled grinding, with comprehensive maintenance instructions to ensure their long-term reliability.
