Overview

The Nature's Bond Breast Pump, Model NB603, is a personal-use electric breast pump designed for lactating women to express and collect milk, complementing breastfeeding. This device offers two pumping modes: Stimulation and Expression, and is capable of both single and double pumping. It is intended for use when the baby would typically be breast feeding, usually 2-3 times a day.

Function Description

The breast pump operates with two distinct modes to optimize milk expression. The Stimulation Mode is designed to initiate milk flow, mimicking the rapid suckling of a baby to stimulate the let-down reflex. After a set period (2 minutes), the pump automatically transitions to the Expression Mode, which uses a slower, deeper suction rhythm to efficiently express milk. Users can manually switch between these modes at any time by pressing the "Mode" button. The vacuum strength can be adjusted to individual comfort levels using the "Up" and "Down" buttons.

The pump can be powered by either an AC adaptor or 6 AA LR6 batteries, offering flexibility for use at home or on the go. An LED indicator illuminates green when the device is powered on. During Stimulation Mode, a green LED is displayed, while Expression Mode is indicated by a blue LED. A yellow LED illuminates to signal a "Low Battery" status, prompting users to change the batteries.

Usage Features

Before each use, it is crucial to wash hands thoroughly and ensure all parts that come into contact with the breast and breast milk are clean and sanitized. The pump kit includes breast shields, breast shield connectors, valves, tubing, caps, and bottles.

Assembly:

  1. Place the breast pump on a clean, dry surface.
  2. Securely attach the breast shield to the breast shield connector.
  3. Push valves onto the bottom of the breast shield connectors.
  4. Screw bottles onto the breast shield connectors.
  5. Insert tubing into the back of the breast shield connectors.
  6. For double pumping, insert the free ends of the tubing onto both ports of the tubing connector on the device. For single pumping, insert one free end of the tubing onto one port and place the port cap over the unused port.
  7. Install 6 AA batteries correctly into the battery enclosure on the back of the device, or plug the power adaptor into the power jack on the device and then into a safe electrical outlet.

Operation:

  1. Center the assembled breast shields over the nipples.
  2. Press the "Power" button to start pumping. A green LED will illuminate.
  3. The pump will start in Stimulation Mode and beep after 2 minutes to indicate the transition to Expression Mode.
  4. Adjust vacuum strength using the "Up" and "Down" buttons for comfort.
  5. Once the pumping session is complete, unplug the tubing from the breast shields before setting down the bottles.
  6. Close the bottles with lids and store the breast milk appropriately.
  7. Allow the pump to continue running briefly to dry any condensation in the tubing.
  8. Turn off the breast pump and unplug it from the power source.
  9. Remove the tubing and disassemble all parts for cleaning.

Important Usage Notes:

  • Always inspect breast shields, connectors, valves, and tubing for cleanliness and damage before use.
  • Ensure breast shields fit properly to ensure comfort and efficient milk expression. While some initial discomfort may occur, pumping should not cause pain. If unsure about sizing, consult a healthcare professional.
  • The nipple should be centered in the shield tunnel, move freely without rubbing, and minimal or no part of the areola should be pulled into the tunnel.
  • A gentle, rhythmic motion of the breast should be observed during each cycle.
  • After pumping, breasts should feel significantly less full with no hard areas.
  • Do not attempt to express with a vacuum that is too high or uncomfortable.
  • Ensure tubing is not kinked or pinched.
  • If minimal or no milk is expressed, or if expression is painful, contact a healthcare professional.
  • Do not remove the breast shield from the breast while pumping. Turn the pump off, break the seal with a finger, then remove the shield.
  • This product is intended for single-user only and should not be shared.
  • Do not drive while pumping or use while pregnant, as pumping can induce labor.
  • Never use while sleepy or drowsy.
  • Do not drop or insert objects into any opening or tubing.
  • Do not use outdoors or where aerosol products are being used, or where oxygen is administered.
  • Always inspect the power adaptor and batteries for damage before use. Discontinue use and contact customer service if damage is found.
  • Remove batteries if the pump will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Close supervision is necessary when used near children or individuals with disabilities.
  • Use only the power adaptor provided with the Nature's Bond breast pump.
  • Do not wrap the cord around the adaptor body.
  • Do not shorten the tubing.
  • Do not use antibacterial or abrasive cleaners/detergents on breast pump parts.
  • Never immerse the breast pump motor in water or a sterilizer.
  • Plastic bottles and components can become brittle when frozen and may break if dropped or mishandled. Do not use breast milk if bottles or components are damaged.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and sanitization are essential for hygiene and device longevity.

Before First Use:

  • Clean and sanitize all parts that come into contact with the breast and breast milk. Use drinking quality tap or bottled water.
  • Take apart and wash all such parts immediately after use to prevent milk residue buildup and bacterial growth. This includes breast shields, breast shield connectors, valves, and breast milk bottles and lids.

After Each Use:

  1. Separate breast shields from connectors.
  2. Twist and pull valves off connectors.
  3. Rinse all separated parts in cool water to remove milk residue.
  4. Soak all separated parts in warm soapy water for 5 minutes.
  5. Clean with a clean dishcloth or soft brush.
  6. Rinse all separated parts with clear water.
  7. Allow all parts to air dry in a clean area.
  8. Store dry parts when not in use.

Using a Dishwasher:

  1. Wash all separated parts on the top rack of the dishwasher.
  2. Allow all breast pump parts to air dry in a clean area.
  3. Store dry parts when not in use.

Daily Sanitization:

  1. Wash hands thoroughly.
  2. Separate all parts that come into contact with the breast and breast milk.
  3. Fill a pot with enough water to cover all parts.
  4. Bring water to a boil.
  5. Place parts in boiling water for 10 minutes.
  6. Allow water to cool, then gently remove parts with tongs.
  7. Place parts on a clean surface.
  8. Allow all parts to air dry.
  9. Store dry parts when not in use; do not store wet or damp parts.

Device and Tubing Cleaning:

  1. Turn off the breast pump and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove tubing from the unit and from the breast shield.
  3. Rinse tubing in cool water, then wash in warm soapy water.
  4. Rinse tubing with clear water and hang to air dry.
  5. Wipe down the main unit with a damp soft cloth.
  6. To clean the carrying bag, use a damp cloth to wipe it down after each use.
  7. If tubing becomes moldy or if breast milk backup occurs, discontinue use of the tubing and clean or replace it before the next pumping session.

Troubleshooting:

  • Low or no suction: Check valves and tubing for chips or cracks and replace if flawed. Inspect breast shield and connector for cracks and ensure secure attachment. Check all connections for tightness.
  • Will not power on: Check that the electrical outlet is functioning properly.

Maintenance and Replacement Parts:

The Nature's Bond device contains no user-serviceable parts. Opening or tampering with the device will void the warranty. In case of repairs, the device should be returned to the medical equipment company or ManaMed directly. The expected lifetime of the device is two years under normal use. Accessories (bottles, caps, tubing sets, carrying case, and breast shields) are warranted for 90 days. Always inspect components for damage before use.
