Overview

The Friia Hot/Cold/Sparkling system is a sleek and stylish beverage dispenser designed to provide hot, cold, and sparkling water. It is available in two main configurations: the Friia HCS and the Friia HCS Plus, with options for 220V or 110V power. The system is comprised of several key components, including a chiller/carbonator, a boiler, and a font (tap). These components are packed and shipped in individual boxes, and for sparkling variants, food-grade CO2 (not supplied by Marco) is required.

Function Description

The Friia system delivers chilled, ambient, and sparkling water on demand. The chiller/carbonator unit is responsible for cooling the incoming water and carbonating it to produce sparkling water. The boiler unit heats water to provide hot beverages. The font, which is the visible part of the system, allows users to dispense the desired type of water. The system is designed for under-counter installation, with the chiller/carbonator and boiler units hidden beneath the counter, and only the elegant font visible above.

Usage Features

The Friia system is designed for ease of use and integration into various environments. The font is available in different dimensions, including a 3b Font, and can be installed with or without a drip tray. The system requires specific counter cut-outs for installation, including a 1.25-inch (32mm) hole and a 4-inch (100mm) hole for the drip tray only. The maximum font placement radius is 23.6 inches (600mm) from the center of the chiller/carbonator, allowing for flexible positioning on the counter.

For installation, the chiller/carbonator unit should be handled only in a vertical position to prevent damage to the refrigerator components. The system requires proper ventilation, with grilles cut out of standard cabinet doors and base panels to ensure adequate airflow. Ventilation grilles can be fitted on either side of the cabinet, as long as they ventilate into an open, unobstructed area. At least two vents, measuring 10.2 inches (260mm) wide by 2.5 inches (65mm) high, are recommended. It is essential to allow for two ventilation points, and where possible, removing the back of the cabinet is recommended.

Electrical installation requires adherence to local regulations and standards. The appliance is supplied with a molded power cord and a suitable mains power supply socket that is easily accessible for disconnection after installation. US models are supplied with the appropriate plug. The wires from the font terminate in a Mini Fit connector, which plugs into a similar connector on the top lid of the under-counter boiler.

Plumbing installation also requires compliance with local plumbing and water regulations. A stop valve should be fitted on a cold water line with a 3/4-inch BSP male fitting. Suitable fittings are supplied with the kit to attach to 3/8-inch compression or 3/8-inch John Guest connections. Water supply lines should be connected according to the installation drawings. If filter systems are used, they must satisfy the requirements of the legislation in force. If a new filter is installed, it should be flushed with at least 10 liters (2.5 gallons) of water before connecting to the cooler. The chiller integrates a pressure reducer to ensure that the maximum pressure of 3 Bar is not exceeded. Before connecting the appliance to the power source, it should stand upright for approximately 2 hours to reduce the possibility of malfunction.

When operating the chiller/carbonator for the first time, ensure all installation procedures have been carried out and the water inlet is open. Before supplying power, check that water and Carbon Dioxide lines do not leak. Plug the chiller into a suitable socket and switch the ON/OFF switch on the rear of the chiller to the ON position. The "Power ON Status" light will illuminate. The carbonation pump will start to fill, and the carbonation device will stop when it reaches the maximum level. Once water and CO2 are connected, open the vent on top of the chiller by pulling the ring to allow air bubbles to escape, which could affect carbonation. Adjust the CO2 pressure to a value between 50 and 65 PSI (350 and 450 kPa), depending on water and ambient temperatures. To fill the lines, open the cold sparkling water and cold natural water lines until the flows appear regular and without air, dispensing at least 5 liters from each line. At this point, water can be dispensed.

The Friia system operates within an environment where the temperature does not exceed 95°F. The chiller's output volume, based on a flow rate of 0.3 GAL/min and an ambient temperature of 68-77°F, indicates its chilling capacity based on incoming water temperature and desired output water temperature.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the Friia system ensures its longevity and optimal performance. The font should be wiped down daily with a non-abrasive cleaner. The chiller should be sanitized every 6 months, after a filter change, or after a period of inactivity exceeding 72 hours. Further instructions for sanitization are available on the Marco YouTube channel.

The Friia system requires the use of both a HOT filter (scale-reducing filter if limescale is present) and a COLD filter (carbon block for taste and odor). Marco can provide advice on the best water filter for specific needs. If scale is present in the water, the MIX boiler should be descaled.
