Overview

This manual describes the Massey Ferguson GC1705 Series Deluxe ROPS Cab, an enclosed operator station designed and built by Tektite Manufacturing Inc. for the Massey Ferguson GC1705 and GC1715 tractors. The primary function of this cab is to provide ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) protection, ensuring operator safety in the event of a rollover. Additionally, the deluxe cab offers reasonable winter weather protection, making the tractor more versatile for year-round operation.

Function Description:

The Massey Ferguson GC1705 Deluxe ROPS Cab serves as a protective enclosure for the tractor operator. Its robust design is engineered to withstand rollover incidents, minimizing the risk of serious injury or fatality. The cab also provides a degree of environmental protection, shielding the operator from harsh weather conditions, particularly in winter. The deluxe model features glass windows at all window locations, offering good visibility while maintaining an enclosed environment.

Usage Features:

The cab is equipped with a range of features to enhance operator comfort and control. A central switch plate in the cab provides access to various electrical functions. These include:

  • Front Wiper Rocker Switch (standard): This switch controls the front windshield wiper. It has an "Off" (low position) and "On" (high position) setting, with an indicator light to show when the wiper is active.
  • Rear Wiper Rocker Switch (not available on all models): Similar to the front wiper switch, this controls the rear windshield wiper with "Off" and "On" positions and an indicator light.
  • Front Work Light Rocker Switch (optional): This switch activates the front work lights, with "Off" and "On" settings and an indicator light.
  • Rear Work Light Rocker Switch (optional): This switch controls the rear work lights, with "Off" and "On" settings and an indicator light.
  • Washer Momentary Switch (Front and Rear optional): This three-position switch (On, Off, On) controls the windshield washer fluid for both front and rear windows.
  • Beacon Rocker Switch (optional): This switch activates the beacon light, with "Off" and "On" settings and an indicator light.
  • Water Heater Fan Rocker Switch (optional): This switch controls the fan for the water heater, with "Off" and "On" settings and an indicator light.

The cab's design also considers summer operation. The gas shocks on each door can be unhooked, and the doors can be lifted off their pin hinges, allowing for open-air operation during warmer months. This flexibility ensures that the cab does not hinder the tractor's usability in different seasons.

Emergency exits are provided through the two doors of the ROPS cab, allowing the operator to exit quickly in an emergency.

Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes several maintenance aspects to ensure the continued safe and dependable service of the ROPS cab:

  • ROPS Serial Number and Date of Purchase: The manual includes a section for recording the vehicle model, ROPS serial number, date of purchase, and dealer name. This information is crucial for obtaining service and for insurance purposes in case of loss or damage.
  • Circuit Protection: The Tektite ROPS cab is wired with individual circuit protection for all standard and optional features. Fuses are accessible behind a plug in the middle of the switch plate, making it easy to replace them if an overload occurs.
  • Decal Maintenance: Operators are instructed to keep safety decals clean and to replace any that are destroyed, missing, painted over, or unreadable. If any safety decals are obscured by the mounted ROPS, replacement decals should be obtained from the tractor manufacturer and mounted in a readable location. New ROPS decals are also available from the tractor dealer.
  • Post-Installation Inspection: After the ROPS cab has been installed, a thorough inspection is recommended before starting the tractor. This includes clearing the operator platform of tools, ensuring all bolts are tight, verifying adequate clearance for pedals, levers, and controls, checking the normal operation of all electrical components (both ROPS and tractor), and ensuring door latches properly onto the striker pin. The manual notes that the ROPS frame may flex slightly after installation, requiring re-alignment of the door latch for proper operation.
  • Structural Integrity: A critical maintenance instruction is that if the ROPS is subjected to alteration, structural damage, or involved in an overturn accident, the entire structure must be replaced. This highlights the importance of maintaining the structural integrity of the ROPS for safety.
  • Seat Belts: If the tractor is not equipped with seat belts, approved seat belts should be purchased from the tractor manufacturer or Tektite prior to operating the tractor, and they must always be fastened.
  • Cleanliness: Operators are advised to remove mud, crop residue, chains, and tools from steps and the operator's platform to prevent interference with pedal operation or entry/exit, and to remove all loose items from the platform to prevent injury or death in a rollover.

The manual also includes detailed parts breakdowns for various components of the cab, such as the windshield assembly, rear window assembly, right side window assembly, left side window assembly, right door assembly, left door assembly, and the steel top switchplate assembly. These breakdowns, complete with service part numbers and descriptions, facilitate the identification and ordering of replacement parts should they be needed during the life of the ROPS. This comprehensive approach to parts identification supports efficient maintenance and repair, ensuring the longevity and continued safe operation of the cab.
