Upon
receiving
an
engine
for repair, learn
the history
of the
unit from the
customer.
While
the
customer is
present,
follow the sug-
gested procedure.

Note
customer's complaints
through an
interview.

Check
air cleaner condition.

Is air
cleaner,
base, cover and
ele-
ment
present
and
in
good
condition?

Check
oii.
a.
Is level
correct?
b.
Is
oil sludged and
gritty
?
c.
What type
oil
is used ?
4.
The engine
and application
condition.
a.
Is
the unit clean
and
free from oil and
dirt?
Are
the
cooling
fins
clean
and
free from
accumulated
clippings,
etc.
?
b.
Is the
application
weII lubricated ?
c. Are
blades sharp
and
balanced?
d.
Are
all
fasteners in
place
and
tight?
After
obtaining
the answers
to
these
ques-
tions,
consult
the
"Trouble-Shooting"
Section
of
this
Manual before
attempting any
repairs
on
the
engine.
ENGINE IDENTIFICATION
The
engine
identification
plate
is mounted on
the
carburetor
side of
the blower housing. Re-
fer to Fig. 1
and
follow this explanation. BOTH
MODEL
AND
SPECIFICATION NUMBERS
ARE
NEEDED
FOR PARTS REPLACEMENT.
A.
H
stands for a heavy cast iron engine.
B.
H stands
for
a
horizontal
crankshaft
en-
gine.
C. The
last zero
is
dropped
and this
indi-
cates the
rated
horsepower
of the engine.

At
periodic
intervals,
the motor-generator
should
be
inspected
to deterrnine
its condition.
Service
the
motor-generator
in the
routine
marner.

special consideration
to
