Overview

This document describes the MASTER WIND P, a wind control device designed for awnings, screens, and similar applications. Its primary function is to automatically retract an awning when wind speed exceeds a predefined threshold, thereby protecting the awning from potential damage. The device is specifically designed to control a single motor equipped with mechanical limit switches.

Function Description

The WIND P operates as a safety mechanism for awnings, activating a retraction sequence when wind conditions become too strong. The device continuously monitors wind speed through a connected sensor (model X15C). When the measured wind speed surpasses the user-adjustable threshold for a continuous period of at least 3 seconds, the device enters a "wind alarm" mode. In this mode, the awning is automatically closed. A red LED indicator on the device illuminates when the wind threshold is exceeded and flashes during the entire wind alarm period, providing a visual cue to the user.

Once in wind alarm mode, the device maintains the awning in a closed position for approximately 8 minutes. During this period, any manual controls for the awning are disabled to prevent accidental deployment while wind conditions are still potentially hazardous. After the 8-minute safety period, the device automatically exits wind alarm mode, and manual control is restored.

The wind threshold is adjustable by the user via a trimmer located on the device. This allows the user to customize the sensitivity of the wind control to suit their specific environment and awning type. The adjustment range for the wind threshold is from 7 Km/h (when the trimmer is fully rotated to the left) to 40 Km/h (when the trimmer is fully rotated to the right). The device is factory-set to a default wind threshold of approximately 15 Km/h.

In addition to the automatic wind control, the device also features a manual control option. This allows users to manually operate the awning, moving it to a desired position. This manual control can be configured for either permanent or momentary operation, offering flexibility in how the awning is managed. However, as noted, this manual control is overridden and disabled when the device is in wind alarm mode.

A "RESET" key is integrated into the device, providing a mechanism for users to manually exit the wind alarm mode prematurely, without waiting for the full 8-minute period. This feature is particularly useful during installation or testing. To force an exit from wind alarm mode, the user must press and hold the RESET key until the flashing red LED (indicating alarm mode) switches off, which typically takes about 5 seconds. This functionality is also used during the system check procedure to verify correct wiring and motor operation.

Usage Features

The WIND P is designed for straightforward operation once installed. The primary interaction for the user involves setting the desired wind threshold and, if necessary, utilizing the manual control or the RESET function.

  • Wind Threshold Adjustment: The wind threshold is adjusted using a rotary trimmer on the device. Users can turn the trimmer to the left to decrease the sensitivity (higher wind speed required for retraction) or to the right to increase sensitivity (lower wind speed required for retraction). This allows for fine-tuning based on local weather patterns and the awning's resilience.
  • Visual Indicators: The red LED serves as a clear visual indicator of the device's status. A steady red light indicates that the wind threshold has been exceeded, while a flashing red light signifies that the device is in wind alarm mode and the awning is retracted.
  • Manual Control: The integrated manual control allows for convenient operation of the awning outside of wind alarm conditions. This can be used to extend or retract the awning at will, providing flexibility for shade or light control.
  • System Check: During installation, a system check procedure is recommended to ensure correct wiring. This involves placing the awning in an intermediate position and rotating the sensor blades to simulate a wind alarm. The awning should then move upward. If it moves downward, the motor's wiring needs to be reversed. This check is crucial for safe and correct operation.
  • Forced Exit from Alarm: The RESET key offers a practical way to override the 8-minute wind alarm timer. This is particularly useful during initial setup or if the user needs to quickly restore manual control after a brief gust of wind.

Maintenance Features

The WIND P is designed for minimal maintenance, focusing on reliable operation and safety.

  • Installation by Qualified Staff: The device requires installation by technically qualified staff who are familiar with local electrical regulations. This ensures proper wiring, grounding, and adherence to safety standards, which is the foundation for reliable long-term operation.
  • Sensor Placement: Proper placement of the wind sensor is critical for accurate readings. The sensor must be installed in a position that is well-exposed to the wind, free from obstacles that could impede the rotation of its blades. The blades should also be adjusted strictly in an upside-down position for optimal performance.
  • Fuse Protection: The device incorporates a protective fuse (5x20 fast 3.15 Amp) to safeguard against electrical overloads, enhancing the device's longevity and safety. In case of an electrical issue, the fuse is designed to blow, preventing damage to the device and potentially the motor.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: Users are explicitly warned against changing, opening, or replacing parts of the device without the manufacturer's permission. This indicates that the device is not designed for user-level repairs or modifications, emphasizing the importance of professional servicing if issues arise.
  • Use of Compatible Sensors: To maintain warranty validity and ensure proper functioning, it is recommended to use sensors produced by the same manufacturer. Using incompatible sensors could lead to malfunctions and void the product warranty.
  • Disposal: At the end of its lifecycle, the product should be disposed of according to local regulations or returned to the retailer when purchasing a new one. This highlights the manufacturer's awareness of environmental responsibility and the potential for the product to contain substances that require specific disposal methods.
  • Warning for Malfunctioning: In case of a malfunction, users are instructed not to continue control and to warn a technician. This emphasizes safety and the need for professional intervention for troubleshooting and repair.
