5. Replace the side cover onto the saw head. Rotate
the side-cover knob clockwise to slightly tighten the
side cover, but leave the bar free to move for tension
adjustment (fig. 1e).
6. Rotate the side-cover knob clockwise to completely
tighten the side cover.

WARNING!
• Always wear protective gloves when handling the bar and chain; these components are sharp and may
contain burrs.
NOTICE:
• When you first purchase your pole saw, the chain and bar will not be attached to the saw.
• The chain is correctly tensioned when there is no sag on the underside of the guide bar; the chain is snug, but can be
rotated by hand without binding. For more information on chain tensioning, see the maintenance section.
• If the chain is too tight, it will not rotate. Loosen the side cover slightly and turn the chain tensioner 1/4 turn counter-
clockwise (fig. 1f). Lift the tip of the guide bar up and retighten the side cover. Ensure that the chain can be rotated by
hand without binding.
